Good Morning!!!! 55F @ 3:45AM. Partly cloudy. High 69F. Winds NW at 10 to 15 mph.

All you folks seem to have had a busy weekend; hope the new week brings continued healing to those needing it and continued health to those that have it.

I've heard rust called "tin worm" by car guys, Drew, and it's an apt description. Eric, thanks for sharing the results of your experiment. I've played with a little Caswel plating setup that uses a brush to wash zink onto small parts, and have not been impressed with the results. Yet another case of "you get what you pay for".

The long weekend was blessed with mostly fair and mild weather, and more than a smattering of changing leaves to brighten the roadsides. Traffic on one of the state highways I took on the way over to the coast was interrupted by pilot car led slow parades for construction in three spots, but otherwise traffic was light on the Friday and I arrived in plenty of time to get a tent up and enjoy a delicious meal at a local cafe. The KOA we camped at had a nice warm fire pit that was perfect for the cool evenings, something I've missed over the hot summers. Saturday was overcast and the roads were damp with fog and dew, but we found small, twisty, hilly places to go and took our time getting to nowhere, just enjoying the ride. The sun peeked out late in the afternoon, just in time for the big spread of Oktoberfest food put on by the campground hosts. Another nice evening around the fire enjoying good conversation and a Scrimshaw or two. We were all surprised and delighted to awake early Sunday morning and not hear the pitter patter of rain drops on our tents that had been predicted, and were able to pack everything away in the dry. The roads were again wet on the way north to breakfast, and we did hit some mist that looked suspicously like rain, but it stopped by the time we got to "Queenies" to enjoy another delicious breakfast (we'd eaten there the day before as well). The ride after breakfast was not to my liking, with one fellow saying he needed a jump start after getting gas, but pushed his starter button just before I connected the last clamp to my battery leaving me with the impression he had the bike in gear locking out his starter when he'd tried before. He then proceeded to lead us over the mountain inland over more wet roads at a pace that had traffic backed up quite a way behind us, and as tail end Charlie, I was stressing out over the tail gating habits of the followers. I bid my farewells at the next gas stop and enjoyed the remaining bit of the trip through the Sacramento Valley, making a note to myself that that particular Jim is best left to travel without my company in the future. It also turned out to be a burn day for the rice farmers, and their pyres sent towering columns of smoke high into the air in very good imitations of atomic mushroom clouds that could be seen for many miles around. The California Air Resources Board seems perfectly happy with the practice, yet comes down hard in certain districts on those that would dare to heat their homes by burning wood that produces only a small fraction of smoke than even one of those rice fields puts out.:confused2:

Made it home by mid afternoon, unpacked, and enjoyed a short nap and a shower before BBQing a small bit of meat for dinner. Fell asleep in front of the TV, and probably got a bit too much of a nap as it made for an early start to the day:laughing:

Hope everyone's week gets off to a great start...

I am trying to accept the slower lower gear attack on life. As you know hard to do. I have an Apple Watch. It records my steps per day. Saturday's steps were 7k. Normal day would be 3 to 4K before surgery. But I have not been putting it on since surgery everyday. Days when I put it on have been mostly less than 2k. Going to take a lot of PT to get my strength back.

Thanks Drew that reminds me to look up a recipe for a good plant based hearty sausage. Beer is already plant based.
Happy birthday Ellen, glad you found Randy, do you have a sister for Drew?
Ron hang in there. A little improvement every day even un-noticed it a lot better than a step back because of rushed healing from something that really does not have to be done now. Glad you got family close that can help you out.
RNG rice burning in California! What is their justification for the added air pollution?

Good morning! 56˚ heading to 82˚ clear skies. Visited Mom yesterday and got her supplies for another week and helped her go through her mail. The 3 hour round trip is getting tiring. About the time Kyle's kids start driving I'll have a job for them delivering groceries.

Planted a rose bush for the deer yesterday.

I have the window tint film for the garage windows that face West that I need to install today.

Good morning to all! Low of 42, going up to 68 today. Another beautiful day just like the last 3 we had. A little cooler at 65 for tomorrow, then dropping to a predicted high of only 46 by Wednesday and a chance of light snow.

Cleaned up the now dead container garden plants and took down the sunshade canopy. Nice slow day in the crisp fall day. Love the sound of walking on crunchy leaves.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Ellen! Hope you had a great day.

Drew, that combine really did a great job...what was the harvest? Looked like corn. Those are giant crows / Ravens out there in the field. Very intelligent birds.

RNG, sounds like you had a nice ride even though you had to deal with the cagers from behind. Can't believe the state powers that be allow rice fields to be burned, especially with the conditions present.

We have to run some errands today, one of which will entail doing a 80 mile round trip. Going through the mountains, so may be very scenic.

Everyone have a great start to the week. Prayers sent out for all!

39°F and clear skies this morning. going up to 70° today. Expecting 75° tomorrow  . I guess no one around here can say that we didn't get a Fall season this year. The weather these last couple of weeks has been fantastic.

Spent the early part of the day Saturday burning down a pile in the garden, mostly fallen tree limbs and small wood pieces trimmed from the deck build. After that, I spent the rest of the morning and early afternoon doing weed control around the lake area. Between burning with a propane torch and using the line trimmer, my back was not nearly as appreciative of that work as was my eye. Looks a lot less ratty around there now. The Wife was pleased as well, so there's that. Later in the afternoon, she and I took a bunch of stuff to the boy's new place in town. Got everything moved into the kitchen and bathroom.

Sunday was cooler (low 50s) and very windy; 30-40 mph most of the day. I stayed in and worked in the studio most of the day, while The Wife went over to paint the boy's bathroom. She found paint at the local hardware store in their "wrong color" section, a mix someone didn't like, and bought a gallon of some grayish-white color for $5. She said it took two coats to cover the old putrid pale green color. The boy finally came home about 1:30 in the afternoon from wherever he spent the night, and started packing his clothes. He was aggravated that he didn't have enough time to move everything before it got dark, and his Mom gave him the sleeping-half-the-day-away lecture for the umpteenth time ... which I'm sure fell on deaf ears yet again. On the bright side, though, I had no interruptions for most of the day and got a great start on the new music project.

Thanks for sharing the awesome trip pictures, Randy.

Eric, I make my tea at home with hot tap water in a cup that I pop in the microwave oven for one minute. I comes out slightly hot, but after a three minute steep is the perfect drinking temperature. Admittedly, though, I have not been drinking much tea lately. I only drink water from our bottle cooler at work, and have been drinking mostly filtered water from our Brita dispenser at home. I rarely drink coffee these days. I like it, but just got away from it years ago in favor of tea, which I've always preferred.

... and happy birthday to Ellen!

RNG rice burning in California! What is their justification for the added air pollution?

The farmers are burning the chaff left in the fields after they are drained and harvested, Don. I'm not trying to justify anything, other than to say that CARB is somewhat capricious in how it applies and enforces air quality standards in that it's OK for the large farm lobby to pollute the air at will, but folks that want to heat their homes with EPA approved wood stoves can not.:confused2:

Had to make a trip in to town this morning. It was 46° for the low, yesterday was in the the mid 60's sunny. Today is going to be in the high 50's with a cold front coming through. It s just going to drop the temperature down into the low 40's. And the wind is at it again today 20-25 mph.

Going to do some little project today. We went out last night looking for elk, didn't see any of them. Did see a few deer and two moose and a nice sunset.

Hope everyone has a Monday.
CWB.

Prayers for all
Be safe
