Jay the sudden stratospheric warming that’s lots counted on to bring winter to the US went to Europe then back towards Russia. I do not see a warm up as such because it’s never really gotten cold. Until we get some blocking in the Atlantic ie traffic and something breaks the pacific jet nothing really changes and the pattern continues. The medium to long range models cannot get a clue probably because they have never seen this before. Larry Cosgrove still thinks we will have a strong winter I’m not sold though. The stormhampster thinks after January 5 we will know so I guess it’s wait and see

^^^^ I agree; especially about how this pattern needs to break down before this Winter's weather changes. We and others have been posting about this craziness.

It was

windy here this PM. Sustained winds were ~15MPH with gusts ~35MPH. I avoided the woods today with the dog walks; too many "widow makers" were still hanging yesterday. There are two reasons for my FOPs- limb falls and FEL spill overs (BTDT with snow). I did not think that that was possible until I did it.

Yep, that split jet stream doesn’t look like it is going to happen in a way that brings cold to us now. At least not before February.

Randy- Your blackeyed peas look like awesome good eats. What a great smell entering the house from the outdoors. Now that I've read some posts, our "Hoppin' John" is the same dish. I bet a few of us will see a "February Thaw" this year. That may not be a good thing. No one really knows.

I've walked this place almost daily for many years. I've never seen before what i am seeing now around here. This may be a very poor year for "Sugaring." Maple trees can not rest and rejuvenate in this weather.

How do you prepare your Brussel sprouts?
We covered them with a combined balsamic vinegar glaze and mustard and then grilled them or if it's too cold outside we bake them for 30 minutes.

Steamed. Then get 'em down ya.

-3F right now and going down to -13°F. This will be about the coldest night of the season.

Great start to the new year.

Good eats at brunch, but I didn’t over do it. Probably didn’t know a third of the people there.
Weather was as hoped for, sunny. That means my concrete was dry enough for acid stain. Got 3 gallons applied. Likely could have done it all, but the remaining 9 gallons are still on order. Hopefully tomorrow.

Wife makes awesome Brussel sprouts. Not just my opinion as they are often requested by friends snd never any left. She has 2 main variants, with and without bacon, fried in cast iron skillet then roasted in oven.

Acid stain about 3 hours old, still working
