Thomas- I ended up using DEET yesterday despite how it messes with my lungs because of the Blackflies and those freakin' ticks.. I do not know why I have this reaction. I pulled 5 ticks off me yesterday after walking Brogen and messing around outside. The black flies were not too bad in the rain this AM walking the dog and I pulled 3 ticks off me afterwards. After this rain those black flies will be active. I need to find my bugnet headgear before I go outside.

When you say the DEET messes with your lungs,is that breathing it in while applying it.

I use a lot on the cloth on the legs of my jeans and then on the brim of my hat and the shoulders of my shirts.
I tend to keep it of my skin as much as possible
I'm out and about in tall grasses and brush and weeds often and seldom see a tick on me.
I almost always have on boots and jeans and I dose the legs and boots heavily.

Lou- I apply DEET products as you. I get congested after applying DEET to bare skin. That concentrated 100% stuff is corrosive to some plastics. It could be the 100% concentration that's triggering this.

Last year I bought this tick repellant solution that is sprayed on clothing and can handle repeated machine washing, I never applied it to any clothing last year. I plan on doing so soon.

Morning form SoCal,

Cooler than usual today going to the mid to upper 60's, been cooler than usual for a while now and will be all this week but at least it is weather !

Funny hw the human body can change its likings, i.e. MA weather vs CA weather, big difference and I thought I liked the cold. In SOCal even though the temps are similar it feel colder here in SoCal.

A question, "Does anyone know if a company makes the old womanly body fragrance called "Skin So Soft" ? (I don't remember wha the actual liquid was called) !
I can't remember who made it but it WAS the best Black Fly repellent I ever found for the Northeast.
I was cutting wood one morning in MA, way back when, was bothered really bad by the black flies, went in to get a coffee and the wife asked if I had tried the Skin So Soft. I had never tried it and was thinking I would never do it, but she had some mixed up, I'm thinking it was a 50/50 mix with water. I broke down and decided to use, it I spread some on my pants, and back and a little on my face and neck... don't want to tell what I smelled like, LoL !
I went out after coffee and started on the wood pile again, BUT all of a sudden I realized I wasn't being bothered by the black flies anymore, has to be the Skin So Soft. That day made me a believer and I have used it for early morning yard work ever since, at least until the last bottle ran out.

As I said, I don't remember who made it or where the wife got it from, but it would be a blessing if it was still made.

I will add, this year and this winter, with all of the rain, there is a lot more bugs than I am use to out here, but no black flies, no mosquitoes, so I am ahead of the game, although there is one CA-mosquitoes, it is big, gets in your face, but so far has no bitten.

Anyway, enjoy the day, wet outside so I am waiting for the sun.

69°F and no rain.
Productive yesterday. Got pretty good at hand threading 3/4 in pipe but sure wouldn’t want as a full time job. 1st 5 ft section of 3/4 pipe in the ground and stopped for the day, needed some energy recovery time. Will continue today.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Scrambler- I believe that Avon made the original Skin So Soft. Other than smelling nicer it did not work for me, but a lot of users claim it to be a decent biting insect repellant. I guess it depends on one's body chemistry.

David- Good luck with the threading.

Lately a rarity here, but the sun is making an appearance.

Rick-- Thanks for the link. Water resistant too. I sweat thinking about physical activity. Reading about everyone else's activities here leaves me exhausted, sweating heavily, and in need of a PM nap.:embarrassed:

Earlier this PM I saw a caravan of tractors of various brands and ages driving by. I guess there is a tractor exhibit at the Fairgrounds today. Sadly there was not the usual # of tractors :(, but there were a couple of decent vintage tractors on the road.
