72 headed to 74 today, cloudy, cool and damp, with northeast winds. Got OT coming to evaluate me today. Gotta go to drugstore, doctors office, and nursing home today.
Ellen put a wedge under the mattress on my side and wow what a difference in sleeping.
Ron, thinking about you, I hope you’re doing well.
BEF and anyone else in need of prayers, coming your way.

Good Morning!!!! 71F @ 6:30AM. Abundant sunshine. High 98F. Winds light and variable.

There's rain, a 50% chance of scattered thunderstorms, in the forecast for Monday! Only 1/3 of an inch predicted, and we could do without the lightning, but it's still a good sign that we won't have the protracted drought that led to last year's fire.

I have a tarp big enough to cover the fire truck on order, but it figures it won't make it here until next Thursday. So this morning I'll rummage around for old tarp pieces and see if I can get at least some of it under cover.

The rain is also a reminder that I need to order in some more decomposed granite to cover the areas where landscape plants formerly grew. Otherwise, they'll be muddy messes when winter finally arrives. And since the DG is sold by weight, if I wait too long and the quarries get wet, I'll be paying for water instead of ground cover.

Honing wasn't enough to salvage the scratched cylinder yesterday. There were two scratches in the Nikasil coating that I could catch with a fingernail, and both were in the area swept by the rings. To get the bike back on the road, I'll steal the cylinders off the bike I bought this past winter, and use the new pistons I have in hand. That bike needs some paint work before the weather closes in, another weather driven task. I'm not a farmer, but the seasons still control a lot of what I do...

Dropped by my buddy's motorcycle shop yesterday to get a second opinion on the cylinder (he said to run it), and was given a replacement for the damaged clutch switch on the red bike, a part BMW no longer inventories. It seems like every two or three years, BMW puts a new person in charge of their "classic" parts operation, whereupon they declare the company will always make parts for the old cars and bikes. Then two years later, the parts guy behind the counter starts seeing "NLA" (No Longer Available) on his computer screen... My friend's wife was filling a parts order for one of their customers and mentioned they were short a couple of cables, so I offered to pick them up and drop them off later as I was headed to the BMW dealer myself. The shop was closed when I returned, so I slipped them under the door mat just as another tenant of the industrial park was driving by. He's another friend, a gearhead with some pretty interesting hobby car and truck projects for which he rents space. He saw the van and asked some questions, and it turns out he knows the former van mechanic. That led to a long conversation about brilliant mechanics and trades people that can't seem to keep a business afloat, and hints that my motorcycle buddy was financially struggling as well. I guess it makes sense to do work that makes you happy, but they call it work for a reason and if you don't do enough of it you have a hard time paying your bills...

This summer I've been pulling over to use the smart phone to turn on the AC at the house when I leave town. It's really nice to walk into a cool house, but kind of inconvenient to stop. But last night I remembered to do it while I was standing in the checkout line at the grocery store. Didn't remember to bring my cloth grocery bags, though...:confused2:

It's Friday the 13th, AND a full moon. There won't be another one on this date until 2049!

A beautiful clear and sunny 40ºF for today's low temperature, a clear and sunny 56ºF presently; and I anticipate a clear and sunny mid 60ºF afternoon high temperature. A chance for rain showers Saturday, but it looks like decent weather ahead for NE. A great day here for outdoor activities. I saw a red shouldered hawk flush a mourning dove out of our pear tree earlier. I suspect the dove was lucky this time based on lack of evidence.

Based on it's nutritional value and all the health benefits from eating it I should be eating okra daily; probably +3X/day.

Randy- Good luck with the OT evaluation.

My + thoughts and prayers for all and hope that today goes well for everybody, family, and friends.

71°F and partly cloudy this morning, going up to 84° today ... which is 10° cooler than yesterday. We were supposed to get some rain this morning, but that never materialized.

What did materialize this morning was terrible traffic ... again. Friday mornings are typically fairly light. Today, though, a tractor trailer overturned in the median on I-55/70 near IL-157. When I got on the interstate, it was backed up to Troy IL, about 10 miles. I finally got to the IL-159 exit about 07:05 to cut through Maryville and go that mess. Got to work at 07:55. It's been a worse-than-normal traffic week around here.

My first experience with Michelin tires was the first replacements I had put on my '89 BMW R100RT. I thought they were the best motorcycle tires I'd ever experienced, and I've put them on every touring bike I've had since. One real surprise for me was when I got the new Kia Soul, it had some tire brand from the factory I'd never heard of (Nexen). Those tires lasted for the first 70,000 miles. Even the service guy at the dealer was stunned that I got that far on them. I asked for the same replacement tires, but they don't sell them (oddly), so I've had Yokahamas since then, which also seem to be decent tires. (just in case we're triggering your OCD, Eric ... tyres)

Good Morning,

69 degrees as I write at 8 AM going to 99 maybe triple digits. I've been up since 6 AM, had coffee, took the dog for a walk, and looked at the trenching for the Patio Electrics/Water.
Got the BH Digging done yesterday, now just need to clean up the trench a little, then run the PVC and Water pipe.

The Patio Install Crew's Electrician said he would do the first run of PVC when he does the Cover Electrics, I agreed but not sure I can wait to get my end started, so I just need to run the Electrical PVC and water pipe for the Fireplace and Potting Shed, tomorrow !

All that will have to wait; got the Mac mini back form Apple, had a problem that I thought was the Computer's fault BUT Apple thinks the Mini is OK. So this day will be consumed with setting up the Apple Mini, and getting a materials list for two more projects, one is Pipe Shelving for the Computer Room/Office, and the second project is putting up a Porcelain Tile on the face of the inside fireplace. I need numbers, sizing, number of similar tile I have from another project so I don't over buy this time, don't need left overs at my age and whatever else I need to complete both projects.

Always something to do, What Retirement !

PT gave me a good workout.

PT wants to get me out on the porch next week so i can have some outside time. I never told her about my power wheelchair and that i get out often.

64° overcast.

Yesterday i walked (shuffled) across room without using a walker. I did tell her that, so i had to demonstrate.

Asked wife about the internet modem. Yea, she was in there, and something fell.... But she couldn't remember to tell me that when i had her reboot it, using a disconnected power cord.

Wife going out to eat with one of her friends. Looks like a frozen burrito day for me.

Erectile dysfunction may predict strokes and heart attacks - CNN

note use of word may. But if your cholesterol is high and there are other issues you don't want to discuss, hmmmm.
Don, you must chase your wife around constantly! :D See, yet another benefit of the plant life...

A little okra may be all that one needs. From WebMD: "Okra is another reputed vegetable of love. Rich in magnesium, it's a natural relaxant. It's also full of iron, folate, zinc, and vitamin B, all nutrients that keep your *** organs healthy and happy. A little gumbo, anyone?"

Got my bloodwork results, triglycerides little high, rest ok.

Doctored 2 frozen burritos with queso, then some Salsa. Still not great, but better than okra.0913191151.jpeg

I've always liked the ride and wet weather safety of Michelins but mileage has been nowhere near what is advertised.
You see 70K mileage bandied about and I'm getting half that.
Paul, I had Nexens as oem tires on my Dodge/Ram diesel dually. I had never heard of them before, groaned when I saw this no name
on this expensive truck, but decided to give them a chance. Wow what a nice tire, and super quiet.
Generals used to be a major player, then really went downhill
with some pretty bad passenger tires, and seemed about five years ago to reinvent themselves and now they build excellent tires. Maybe not the best but
many of us don't stress the tires as much as others. Shoe for every foot.
Granny usually doesn't need V rated tires....

Headed out in a few minutes back downtown to get front tires for Ram,
after the nice garden club meeting, ears were really bothering me, hard to hear,
roar in background with all those women talking. I guess I'm going to wind up getting those steroids put into my middle ear.
This isn't getting better, and at times seems to be much worse.

Ladies loved the gourds, I left before they jumped on the pile I left them on the give away table.
Nothing survives that table.

going to grab my kindle and get the tires put on, in an ancient large building that's been doing tires or cars a long, long time.
Warehouse Tire in Washington. Great place, super owner, matches tirerack pricing, which I'm sure is 10 percent higher than Costco, but
I want a guy to yank the nails out, that I invariably get, I think last time at the dump. Contractors haul construction debris in and sooner or later
stuff on the road not good for your tires, and no way do they run a magnet over that place. Attendant is asleep half the time.
