I have never had a real need to cut up a bottle, but have always been fascinated by those thermally shocking glass to break it cleanly. Anyone tried this sort of thing ? Cutting glass bottles into rings easily with thermal stress - YouTube

I fooled around with wrapping lighter fluid soaked string around the bottles that ginger beer came in, way back when I was a teenager. The cutter wheel I used was of the local hardware store variety, and I suspect it was not very sharp. All the string technique ever did was produce a pile of flambeed useless broken glass, and I suspect my mother would have welcomed me playing around with pans of hot water in the kitchen than lighter fluid in the garage.

RNG, hope your CEL goes out for a looooong time.

We used to fix them with a small piece of black electrical tape. wink, wink.

Part of the Subaru engine conversion was to rewire the CEL. Originally, VW connected it to a counter on the speedometer cable, and when the count got high enough, the CEL illuminated and it was time to replace the O2 sensor on the exhaust system. The Subaru ECU supports OBDII, and with it full CEL functionality, and by careful reading of the ECU schematics the proper leads were routed all the way up to the front of the van so the CEL was able to perform it's devilry. That's what's needed to satisfy the Kalifornia SMOG gods, anyway. So as tempted as I've been to use the black tape fix, I wanted a validated registration sticker even more, and was able to resist.

Good Morning!!!! 65F @ 6:00AM. Plentiful sunshine. High 89F. Winds NW at 10 to 20 mph.

A Red Flag Warning will start at 1PM today, lasting until 11AM tomorrow morning. That has caused PG&E, the local electric utility, to unleash an unending stream of emails, text messages, and telephone calls telling us all "have a plan" for when they de-energize the grid that supplies us with power. Oh, I'm ready alright: the tank on the generator is full, as is the starter battery, and so is the water tank on the fire truck. Only took an hour to fill, and the well pump kept up to the point that the water level in the holding tank fell less than a foot. This morning I'll dump 10 gallons of stabilized gasoline into the firetruck, and while running errands, get them filled back up again.

TBN Bad Gateway errors seemed to last here until late last night, and now I've more or less forgotten what it was I did the day before. Yesterday started with good news, though, in the form of a completed structural analysis of the solar array grid, one that offered some strengthening improvements but lacked certain dimensional details that were corrected by evening. So yesterday I went over the building permit application, made a few tweaks to my documentation, and got it all ready to submit, which I'll do first thing this morning. Dunno how long it'll take to get approval, but at least I'll have the satisfaction knowing I've done what's needed to get things rolling again. Rumor has it that the county building department has opened a new branch at the library in Paradise, so I'll try that in an effort to deal with someone who is actually familiar with solar power technology. The person at the main office in Oroville struck me as having gotten his education from a Cracker Jack box.:confused2:

Think I'll also swing by the Subaru dealer and pick up the IAC valve gasket, which they had in stock, and find an M6x1.0 bolt in my junk box so I can at least get the van running again. And while I'm in Chico, I'll swing by my buddy's motorcycle shop and see if he has a four piston brake caliper that can be adapted to the red bike. If some is good, more is better!

Hope everyone's week gets off to a great start, and them what's ailin' continue to get better!

67°F and partly cloudy this morning, going up to 79° today. Supposed to drop into the mid-50s tonight. A good start for Autumn, even if we will be back in the low 90s next week.

Had to replace an LED flood light on the back of the sunroom over the deck this weekend. So much for the notion of LEDs lasting for years and years. That one lasted for about one.

Wife sent me to Greenville Saturday morning to get some license plate stickers renewed. The F-150 is due at the end of this month, and I went ahead and got the one for my Soul while I was there, even though it doesn't expire until the end of November. Now we're good until next Spring. Made a food run for lunch (tacos and burritos), then took a nap. That pretty much ended any ambitions for Saturday.

Made a fuel run Sunday morning for the mowers and the tractor. Got back to find The Wife decided to paint the frame of the dock. She'd removed the top boards and railing while I was at work on Friday, as we'd decided to replace them. She'd already painted the new top boards a couple of weeks ago (with the paint left over from the picnic table), and they've been waiting in the garage for an opportunity to be installed. That opportunity came yesterday. With the water level down, we have access to walk around the whole frame. Hauled off the old boards to the burn pile in the pasture, then started installing the new boards. We went with 1x8s, and it became clear very early that there was not enough support on the frame to keep the thinner boards from sagging. We finished putting them on, then I went to Menard's to get a few more 2x10s to shore up the frame. Guess we'll paint and slide those in next weekend.

By the time I got back from the lumber run, the remnants of Imelda had finally made their way to us, and it rained for pretty much the rest of the day, eventually stopping around 4am this morning. It was a nice, soaking rain, which we kind of needed. Probably not helping the farmers trying to harvest the corn right now, though.

Glad your event didn't go worse for you, David. I got a bit too close to the lake a few weeks ago on the pasture side, and dropped the right front wheel into a new rut I didn't know was there along the edge. It popped right back out, so I continued. When the back wheel dropped into it, I thought I was going over. I really didn't want to roll that thing into a (mostly) dry lake hole at only three years old. Decided not to do any back-up trimming there that day.

My Wife buys her own gifts as well, Kyle. She simply tells me, "You got me this for my birthday, it'll be here in a couple of days. Thanks." We don't do Anniversary or Xmas gits anymore either. Instead, we get something for the house and call it a mutual gift. This year's anniversary gift was the new pergola on the deck.

Back in the old days of the American West, it wasn't too unusual for people to save liquor and wine bottles and use them with mud, and later, concrete, to make walls. Some of the resulting buildings survive to this day. The ones that I've seen have the bottles laying horizontal, with the ends of the bottles alternating toward the inside and outside of the wall. That way light is transmitted through the wall, and it picks up the color of the bottles. Some are quite colorful! Even better, no bottle drilling is required.

I've seen the Horizontal Bottle in Buildings, interesting but not a project I want to get into.
Mine will be Vertical, the only major problem is the drilling of the bottles.
Someone has suggested a diamond bit, I will check that out, thinking a carbide bit might do it too.
Don't need a wall in its true sense just a... fence, that is what I should have called it from the beginning.
I will be building a "Wine Bottle Fence" just for color ! LoL !

81° already. We need rain.

We dont buy each other gifts, stopped that many yrs ago. If we want something we pretty much get it, but we talk it over first.

I ordered me my gift for getting out of rehab. Will come next week. My wife has been wanting me to get a new one..

PT evaluation today.

Did walk down to basement yesterday, first time down there in months. I can do stairs, but only once or twice a day. While i can do things now, i cant do them very long.

Today ive been home a month since rehab. Hard to believe. Rehab seemed so long. 2 months ago tomorrow was my last treatment, and i couldn't move my legs at all. Ive come a long way.

Wife gets home soon so was busy cleaning up some. Took a shower without help. Trimmed my beard low. Ran the dishwasher. Busy morning.

Checking In:

Thanks for the + thoughts, wishes, and prayers.

My ribcage is all kinds of stretched and sore this morning, but no torn ligaments or fractured ribs this time. I spent last night sleeping in my easy chair to promote better breathing and getting rid of that coughed up nasty green stuff. It seems my mix of OTC cough medicine and natural anti-inflammatories and old fashioned cures is working.

I’ve had respiratory challenges since infancy. It’s no easier now than it was then. At least now I have a “clue” what’s happening. When I get a respiratory infection my autonomic nervous system goes bonkers and my body loses its ability to regulate itself. Today it seems like my ANS has rebooted :cool; but the peripheral neuropathy is very noticeable.:(. My finger oximeter has ceased to function :(; but it feels like I am not able to efficiently recharge O2 levels with exertion = no dog walks or anything strenuous today.

Plan for today: Take it easy, start the tractor, keep inflammation down, airways open, and coughing up stuff.

I got that oximeter through Amazon. It cost ~ $70 and was as accurate as my pulmonologist’s fancy/expensive unit.. Maybe I should purchase another one.

Roy- I hope you get your dental challenges addressed soon .

I hope everyone mending and healing continues to do so.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers.

Sounds like most have been busy the last few days, I mowed the lawn (perhaps last mow of the season) Saturday, then helped my wife get her painting set up (she did some prepping and priming a few weeks ago and wanted to get paint on it before weather prevents it). She got most of what she wanted to paint done.. weather is turning cold so likely done for this year. I worked on cleaning up the wood from dismantling the old deck (loaded into pickup and unloaded behind playhouse out of the way.

I planned on doing more in the new deck, but my back was hurting pretty bad, rested and went out later to measure and layout.. wife and I both too tired to get it done correctly. I figured my daughter and SIL that were visiting on Sunday could help a few minutes and get it all done.. but after loading the stuff they wanted to move to their new house, I was done for the day.. They borrowed a pellet stove we were not using, a radial arm saw that we gave them and a drywall lift. They figured it would be hard to get that stuff out of shop once travel trailers were put away for the winter.. they also returned my framing nailer (that I need for deck).

Stay safe, prayers for those in need.
