Good morning!!!!

I'm going to have to do something about the neighbours weeds coming through the fence and sticking out into my garden. I'll maybe see if I can find some netting or something, as it is getting to be a pain cutting them back then having them poke through again a few days later.

Hope everybody has a good day!

~Jamie.

What about spraying your fenceline with Roundup and if some should "accidentally' get on your neighbours "weeds" Oh dear. How sad. Too bad. Nevermind. :)

Sam, good morning. What does the mineral oil do? Educate me please.
thanks
sorry Drew didn't see your post till this morning. I always put a drop of mineral oil in the middle of the hair or [ tossel] and let it run down inside some where around 2 to 3 weeks of harvest or when the ear is formed keeps the worms out of it. we have a big yellowish and green worm that's as big around as your little finger and boy can they do some damage quick.

Good Morning All.

57 this morning with high temperature of 80 today rain tomorrow and Thursday highs in low 70s. Still good working temperatures. Looks like long range forecast thru fall is more of the same and one forecast model calls for brutal weather for us this winter, very very cold. Oh well still some time to go for that

59 right now, high of 75 and no precipitation...looks to be a nice day!

Hah! I get up at o'dark 3:30 and I LOL at "looks to be a nice day". Our weather reports SUCK, and since I travel like 60 miles in other directions from the house and farm, it is a different planet and different time when I get there.

Not laughing at you Roy, but it is still technically - night time when you report in. :)

In my neck of the woods, today, these weather people are saying it will be an awesome day. I hope to see the sun around lunch time, I have not seen it yet.

Mike, hang in there, it's beautiful out here now, 60 degrees in the morning, open those windows, yeah!

going to dig up the rest of the potatoes today, and need to find a good way to store them. We put them in the basement last time and
got a nice crop of seed potatoes, which was ok frankly, but not this time.

drove for the first time yesterday without any collar on, and regretted it. Came home and put the big thing back on, if only to give my sore neck a break, with my fat head, which my wife affectionately calls my 20 pound bowling ball, being given a temporary ride by the collar. But I got out of bed this morning with less pain than before, and that's all good. Going to be a great day.

David/Sodamo, how are you doing? We are all worried about you.

Morning all. Sunny, 74 with 94% humidity. Forecast high of 93 with 30% chance of rain.

Going in to Marianna to have my teeth cleaned this morning. Such fun. Then going to Blountstown to my bank. Got to move some money around. Looks like we are going to try to buy a big ticket, non-tractor related item. I'll let ya'll know if it works out

I woke up to the sound of rain on my metal roof this morning.:cloud9: We have .15" so far and we are in a line of light showers moving over us and mostly along the counties just south of the Red River between Tex and Okla. This was a sweet surprise because it looked like we'd missed our chance, but these showers moved down out of Oklahoma. Who says we never get anything good out of Oklahoma?;) It's 75 F out, but later it will be in the low 90s and sticky humid, though I don't care. I'm declaring a gardening and yard watering holiday.:D

We used to spray with Wesson oil, water and some dishwashing detergent mixed in. Kept the worms off the tip and really worked well.

The corn earworms are caused by a moth that lays eggs on the silks at night, especially after pollination and as the ears mature. When the eggs hatch, the mineral oil will smother the young worms. Many people mix BT (bacillus thuringiensis) with the oil for a higher worm kill percentage.

Sam, I think you mean the silk instead of tossel (tassel). The corn tassel is at the top of the stalk and develops pollen. Treating it will not reduce corn earworms. You have to treat the silks coming out of the ears just where they emerge from the shucks. Lots of people (me included) get tassels and silks confused at times.:)

BTW: Corn earworms are cannibalistic. That's why you normally only find 1 or 2 per ear. The moth lays lots of eggs that hatch, but the earworm that survives is the biggest one that can eat all its siblings.

Hey Sam, that reminds me of a story. We don't have AC in the house and rarely use it in our vehicles. 2 years ago wife's sister was visiting along with 2 other couples from NJ. The girls decided to head to town in our Sequoia. Along the way, on of the girls sitting sitting in the back asked my wife if we ever used the a/c. Wife says, yea, in the truck sometimes when the dogs get too hot. Soon, she heard a panting woof, woof from the rear. She closed the windows for the city folk and turned on the a/c.

Humans have become WAY TOO spoiled, and this proves it! I think there is a song about, radio blasting and windows rolled down, but since I am not into much of the music of the last 5-10 years, can't swear those are the words.
