Sam, I think you mean the silk instead of tossel (tassel). The corn tassel is at the top of the stalk and develops pollen. Treating it will not reduce corn earworms. You have to treat the silks coming out of the ears just where they emerge from the shucks. Lots of people (me included) get tassels and silks confused at times.

BTW: Corn earworms are cannibalistic. That's why you normally only find 1 or 2 per ear. The moth lays lots of eggs that hatch, but the earworm that survives is the biggest one that can eat all its siblings.:laughing:

Mowed the yard right in front of the house. The new 6' RFM sure is a time saver. Took about 15 or 20 minutes.

Had two banana cantaloupes with splits this afternoon. I saved all of one, and had to toss about a third of the other one. I stood in the garden and ate what was good on it.

Had a big thunderstorm about 5:30. Only lasted about an hour, but got 1.9" out of it. I was in the garden and saw it coming, so I turned the soaker hoses off.

Poured first cup of coffee. 63° with clouds and rain close by this morning. Heading to 73° with thunderstorms and showers though out the day. Enough rain, need some nice sunny days in a row.

Maybe I can get something done outside between the rain drops.

good morning 62 degree's I guess our cool temps are gone now. got up early needed to get 2 more post holes dug and it's raining. so I will spend some time in garage packing the trailer with yard sale stuff for saterday. radar shows rain all day and tonight. wife finished up the pickles yesterday 34 pints now we get the beans done and wait on the tomatoes. i'm in trouble now the wife as you know lost her job of 30 years in January and she got a letter telling her she could go back to school under the trade act [something that was passed back in 1974] and of course I had to open my mouth, I told her if she didn't learn any more this time than she did the first time it would be a waste of tax money. well i'm still breathing this morning so all is well. everyone have a great day stay dry

I saw the sun yesterday at noon.

This w/e is predicted to be - awesome. I have reseeding to do and this weather pattern looks to be - perfect.

Drew be careful if you use potting soil it makes the power to strong blow your bulbs.:candle::laughing:

I used to work with a wacky guy who helped his daughter do a science project where she use multiple alumel-chromel thermocouples to power a science project. The source of heat was a Bunsen burner and she must have had over 100 junctions to power her project. I don't remember what she was running with the electricity, maybe a tiny light bulb or LED. Each thermocouple only puts out a few microamps of current, so it couldn't have been anything requiring much power.

Oh yes, gonna be normal here today with a 10% chance of a shower of just enough rain to make our near 100 F temperatures feel like 110 F. At least I can sit in the shade and watch the roadrunners chase lizards.
