Boy...nice to sleep in!

59 degrees right now and a high of 79 predicted. 80% chance of precipitation.

Sent three resumes out last night...two very local (within 5 miles), the other would be a pretty good drive (60 miles). I'll be looking for contract work too, but I do not want to do 1099 work except as a last resort.

More rain...almost everyday for a long time now...we are 16 inches above normal for the years so far...

Awoke this AM to a Rooster call....We have a little black and white Banty Rooster that has come to stay in our yard , at least for now...loud for his size...

Thanks for the sentiments, folks...

Even before we moved to VT, I was somewhat concerned about the company...I mean, how many cast iron stoves can people want? It's not like those stoves are going to wear out or be replaced in a year or so...more like 30-40 years.
But, the company did pay for our move and I can't complain. I do wish them the very best.
We were told there would be a recall in October...frankly, I think that is extremely unlikely.
Bad news -
However - a few things since this just happened to one of our son's -

Did you sign a contract - i.e. guarantee work for X years? Our son signed a contract and it seemed to promise work for 2 years.

Are you sure they won't ask you to pay for the move? Our son had to work for those 2 years before his move was "paid off".

Some rain already, more today, then clearing and cooler Friday, hot and humid Saturday. The roller coaster rides on.

I had no contract...an "at will" employee.
I really don't expect them to ask for repayment of the move expenses. If I had a contract, it might be a different story...but only if I was let go for a reason other then "reduction in force". If they did ask for repayment or hold my last check...well, there would likely be discussions...but that is very unlikely.

Pettys super bird was something else with the 426 hemi but my favorite was the challenger with a 426 plum crazy in color or a boss 302 with 4spd and shaker hood. Never got to own either but liked to look. Ford Fairlane GT with 4 in floor and 390 was best I could do but it was enough
Buppies the 67 ford fairlane GT has always been my favorite I almost bought one several years ago but would have had to add to garage to have a place to keep it. when I see them at the shows I check them out good. not many that I have seen or really orginal most have some kind of modification to them.

tv news forecast says Texas is under a serious heatwave. Boy I wish I could send some of this cooling rain
to them. Share the wealth. Our cup is truly overflowing.
Nice rain though...not destructive like a storm. But my cucumbers are exploding, the strawberries taste a little watery, and
the tomatoes are splitting. But boy does the local corn look good.

so Toppop, what are you personally bringing to the auto show this weekend?

Me too!

Good Morning! 78˚, clear skies, heading over 100˚ it going to be a blistering day. Even though I watered my mulched cucumbers and cantaloupes daily they are now yellow and dead and are on the no water list. Half the squash have succumbed to the heat. The tomatoes are ok just not producing and the watermelons need water every other day. Just too hot. We now start the DOG DAYS OF AUGUST with no rain in the forecast.

Roy, the bright side of the short job was the neat place you found to live. Good luck with finding another job, maybe with the next one you can sleep a little later.

It's starting out at 78 F here and going to 98 F by afternoon. I guess I should feel lucky it won't top 100 F, but that's coming this weekend when my two grandkids are coming to visit from Oklahoma.

Roy: Dang! You are the king of contract/temporary work, but I'd hoped you finally found a place to hang your hat for a long while. It makes sense that they might ramp back up and have a recall in October. They need to make cast iron air conditioners to stay in full production all year long.;)

Drew: Good luck with the motorhome. I'm sorry to hear your garden is going downhill because of rain. Also, it's none of my business, but I'm curious how one handles home health visits when you are in a motorhome? In my opinion, craigslist always seems to have a bunch of motorized wheelchairs. They are far too cheap to try and motorize a standard wheelchair. It seems people get their chairs paid for by insurance or Medicare and don't have a lot invested, so they price them cheaply.

I posted earlier in the week about making yellow squash and zucchini pickles. Yesterday, I put a pint into the refrigerator and tried them last night for dinner. It was a jar with part yellow and part zucchini mixed. They were both terrific. Sweet & sour just as you'd expect bread & butter pickles to be. They had a nice firm crunch too.

Edit: Don, my garden is suffering in the heat, but my tomato plants got beat up when we had heavy rains. There's still the early girls making small tomatoes and I picked 1-1/2 gal of small cherry tomatoes two days ago. Tomorrow, they will be ready to pick again. I think my 40% shade cloth is a big success. I'll probably also get a bucket of blackeyed peas if I can walk between the rows. It's a pea jungle in there. My squash is still going strong because I flood water it daily with soaker hoses and it's so big it provides lots of shade for the ground. Of course, my okra is loving this weather and not even wilting because I water it too. I'm sorry you are having so many problems. I have to think that your lack of rain this year never really got enough deep water to let the plants get good roots. Now, they can't take up enough water to counter the burning sun.

Too hot to work outside and all the inside stuff is done for the moment.....headed to Randolph for the fun of it. (haven't been on an AF base in several years) Get a haircut, go to the BX, maybe buy waterpark tickets --kids are coming from Houston to spend the week on vacation. They like it here and it's cheap. They want to go to schilterban and caving somewhere. If I buy the tickets on base I can get a military discount. My energy level isn't up to working in this heat so might as well do something easy.

I'm taking my grandkids to Fossil Rim Wildlife Park in Glen Rose, TX on Monday. I can sit in an air conditioned car for most of that trip. We just have to get there early before the animals head to the woods for shade in the heat of the day.

Contract work has been very lucrative for me, but it has it's ups and downs. As I wrote in an earlier post, I'd be very leery of another 1099 independent contractor job. I had promises of lots of hours, but that never happened and I took a bath on that job.

I've regretted I had to pass on the federal job, but it took so long to process the job and security clearance...well, by the time the feds contacted me, I had been at Vermont Castings for 2-3 months. And moving to WV from Vermont would be a lot more expensive then PA to WV.

Already had several light showers this morning. Right now, 0940, it is cloudy, 80 with 90% humidity. Forecast for a high of 91 with 40% chance of rain.

I slept in this morning. My new mp3 player came in yesterday and I was up to 0200 loading music. Only got it just past half full and am back on it this morning. 4 gig is a pile of music.

Buppies the 67 ford fairlane GT has always been my favorite.

My mom and dad bought a 64 1/2 Fairlane with a 289 V8 new. I got it after I come home from the Navy[1983]. That was one sweet car. Somewhere along the line it had cracked the block, and I was very poor back then. I fixed it a few times with JB Weld, but in the end had to move on to a different car. It sat around for ten or fifteen years, then I sold it to a friend who was going to restore it.

Bored = monkey business.:D

You just can't stop picking on me, can you???

Roy, I am sincerely sorry to learn about your employment situation....I was so hoping this job would be a more permanent one for you.

While on the subject of cars, the best one I ever owned for the money was a '67 Mustang coupe with the 289 2V-V and C-4 automatic...it needed some body work and the engine smoked, but after a few oil and filter changes the oil burning stopped. Paid $400 for it back in 1971..sold it for $800 2 years later but wish I had kept it.
