64 right now, high of 77 predicted. Looks like we're in for a couple days of rain.

Got part of the lawn mowed yesterday. I always mow in sections...normally on two successive days (this doesn't include the field). The biggest drag is there are a lot of clippings left. I've tried mowing faster and slower...doesn't help. Anyway, there's a tow behind lawn sweeper in the shed. I think I'll try that out. Never used one before...

Roy,
presumptuous of me to suggest to someone who has serious seat time mowing, but would mowing a notch higher help?

Heavy overcast this morning, doing nothing today but hanging out!
On it is 69 degrees and heading up toward the high 70's

Gorgeous! Any fish in there?

Good morning! 80˚ getting to 105˚ today. Dry and dusty. The dust is said to be from Africa and makes everything hazy.

txdon; With yesterday's southern winds, I believe your dirt is up here now, and my place is in Oklahoma, probably near 2LaneCruzer!

72 now and calling for mid 80's, we'll see, it's been cool for a few days.

Anyone else notice that the grass is starting to slow down? It's still thick and and all that, but it's not shooting up even after heavy rain like it was 3-4 weeks ago. That usually doesn't start here for another 2-3 weeks from now. Also the robins are starting to clutch(bunch up), and I've seen a few smaller traveling flocks of blackbirds, that's not unusual at this time of summer, though.
My picture isn't as pretty as Wayne's but ...

Nice, toppop! Only thing growing around here in pastures is the grasshoppers.

I'm not sure...something I can try. The RFM manual suggests the travel speed is too high, but that's not necessarily the problem.

That was actually taken during the one dry spell at the end of about 3 weeks without rain. The only dry spell since last October when Sandy came through. That area is emerald green now.

Morning all.

I will only speak of my troubles in very general terms (at least I will attempt to do this).

Stayed up WAY TOO LATE last night and slept in until 0630 for the first time in recent history.

Be well all & God Bless.

David

I was thinking of changing my "name" to Windbag in the spirit of personal honesty...:D
this is our own little reality show and I thank the esteemed 300UGUY for his grand idea.
More importantly, over time, we learn more, not only about others, and about things, but about ourselves.
Of course we need to know our weather, it really is interesting to see how each of us are doing.
Makes such a huge difference in our tractor related activities.
So I wanted to second Toppop's enthusiasm.

What season is this thread on? Where's my remote. Look, we are on tv....oh no.

I never had any thought of creating a big thread. I just wanted to start a conversation. I didn't look to see what was a long thread, and I never had posted very much. Being retired, I now have more time for surfing the net :)
Thanks to everybody for participating.

I find it facinating to learn about other areas. Mostly people post about their weather and I find it humbling to here what other people have to deal with. I'm finding that my life and surroundings are not so bad. ;)

Morning all. Cloudy, 79 with 89% humidity. Forecast for a high of 90 with 40% chance of rain. Didn't get a chance to do any mowing yesterday. Will do some as soon as the dew dries.

I have Ma watch until I go to work. She was in the shop for new sparkplugs, {pacemaker} so she should be moving faster as soon as she recovers from the operation. She can't lift her left arm above her shoulder for ten days, or lift over ten pounds for a month. But the worst is no yard work for two months. I doubt any doctor will keep her away from her flowers for that long.

66F, .10 rain since midnight. light morning drizzle appears on last legs

Just too tempting yesterday and tractor mowed a couple hours before heading to town. So glad we did.

Ordered material for my chainlink fence project - over 300ft plus four gates. Interesting exercise.
Last week, I took my detailed drawing and parts break down list to several suppliers for a bid. Universally, they all loved what I brought in and except for slight name changes and one supplier having 21 ft vs 10.5 top rail, their quotes matched up - no glaring errors or omissions.
So the results:
Two places, didn't do chainlink even though they did other fencing and some of the hardware.

The first to respond was a major fence company, the quote was astounding: over $5500 for 9 ga. No mention of delivery or concrete.

The second was a local farm supply that does a lot of fencing, less than $2500 for 9ga, but no delivery and they only had 21ft top rail. Cement, but no concrete mix.

HomeDepot's first response was irritating in that it was for 11.5 ga, basically what was in stock and not what I asked for. Monday, HD sent a second quote, this time for 9ga. When adjusted for my military discount it was still about $50 over the other local store, but delivery was possible.

I was about ready to go with #2 local place

Then the Pro rep from HD called to see if I got the 2nd quote. Told him I wish that had been his first quote, as I wasn't interested in the 11.5 ga, in stock material. He apologized saying he had been waiting for the info. Anyway, I told him that even with my military discount HD was still higher that the other. He said their policy was to beat the other by 10% and if I gave him the info he would look at it. I did, he did and I got a new quote for less than $2200.

So, price advantage to HD, plus for another $79, I get everything delivered including 50 bags of Quikcrete. May have to wait 6 weeks for the fence fabric, but that's OK. So in end, I saved a bit of money, but even mo betta, saved two trips to pick up material. The forks will be on my tractor to help with the delivery. :)

Have a great day.

David, my BIL works for Lowes. He works on the Pro desk, but I call him the Jobber. He will help you figure what large jobs are going to cost, and he can knock off quite a lot off the list price. Even if you just have a small job, check out at the Pro desk and ask for a break. Most of the time you will get one.
