Was driving up to Randolph for a case of beer and the dammed right rear tire on the Subaru went flat!!! Must be a lesson on the evils of drinking, eh?
I reckon it was a pothole did the deed...

Anyway, pulled off into this dairy farm's lot and they were nice enough to let me leave it there for a tow (I don't trust the spare tire....guess I'll need a new one).
One of the guys was heading south on RT 12 so he gave me a ride home....had a stainless steel Ruger rifle.....243, if I recall him saying. So, we had a nice conversation about guns on the drive.

Found a local guy who's going to tow it to his shop.

And yes, I got in the F-150 and did get my beer! So, the story has a happy ending...

Randy, I hope you and your shaker of salt are keeping each other happy. ;) I just couldn't help but think that if a Dr. told me to add sodium to my diet, I'd stop off at Sam's Club and buy a half-gallon of pickled okra and go home and pig out.:D I find it extremely hard to quit eating pickled okra once I open a jar. In all seriousness, being diabetic adds lots of dietary complexity to meals. God bless you and help you return to normal health.

Edit: TxDon, my neighbor said they shot 3 big hogs at their deer lease. The just opened them up for aroma and left them in the brush. Overnight, the coyotes completely cleaned up the carcasses. Maybe your pack of coyotes is a home grown hog disposal.:)

Too bad about the tire but I'll bet you have had lots worse days then that? It is nice to live where people will help each other if the need is real.

What a wonderful outlook you have after all you've been through. May each day be better than the last. Yes, life is good!!

thank you Margie. Each day is in its own way.
Even if one has to fake it until one makes it...
I've had plenty of time to think about this time of my life, and
I think I have a plan. First is to get healthier, second is to go have some fun.
and then repeat. ;)

Roy--you're new to living on dirt roads but when we lived in Maine the shale that wound up on the roads was terrible on tires. Not sure if you're driving on dirt roads but if you are I would suspect shale and sharp stones as the more likely culprit.
The only way I stopped the flats was to switch to the top of the line Michelin LTX tires from Sam's Club. They are pricey but I haven't had a flat since I switched to Michelin more than 15 years ago.

Had low of 19 got to around 43 in the afternoon. I tried to do some work around the house, got the utility trailer out, pumped the tires and hooked it to the tractor. That was it, had to go in and sit down. My daughter and son in law came over and cleaned out flower beds and old gourds and such, changed a dead bulb in the perimeter floods. I didn't ask them to do it and that made it very special. They volunteered to put up Christmas decorations but I figured that could wait until another day. It's very difficult to accept my limits, but reality is changing, may as well recognize reality.
Thanks for all the well wishes and I hope you all have a great weekend. Drew and David, you're on your way. Don, watch the coyotes, when they start acting in packs you are not safe, start shooting and don't stop until they get the message.

Good Evening. 1745, clear, 41* with 79% humidity. Forecast low of 37* tonight. I spent a couple of hours yesterday and today in my shooting house. All I saw was a few does and yearlings. It was much warmer today than yesterday, but you have to go on the first day, no matter how cold it is.

We had our Thanksgiving meal tonight as Sister and BIL spent yesterday in Panama City with his kids and grandkids. Lots of good food, family and friends. BIL has to be at work at 0530, so he went on home after we ate. And Mamma goes to bed with the chickens, so she is gone. But everyone else is doing a jigsaw puzzle in the other room. I just finished watching the Noles' hoops team lose to the Gators by 1 on a questionable foul call at the buzzer. As the saying goes, tomorrow will be another day. The game with the pointy ball will turn out different.

Everyone have a good weekend.

Drew, I really liked the picture of the old squared timber building. As long as the roof is kept in shape, it should last another 300 years.

good morning all. Slept like a log last night (I wonder how that saying came about...) and got up early.
Cold out, 23 degrees, going up to mid thirties today, and dry weather for a while. Great weather to work on a huge woodpile that needs to be split. Time for another guy's work day.

I was gently informed by my brother that it was proper to respond with a note to the more than one hundred people who sent condolence cards to me. Oh boy, did I save all envelopes with addresses? Likely not...
Let's see, do I want to go split wood, or do note cards? let me take a long time to think about that...:D

Today is another clean up the house day and then off to a family dinner tonight. I ran out of Splenda for my coffee so that just might mean a trip out. I really don't like the blue stuff any more. Pink, blue, yellow, funny how the sweeteners all pick a color... I sometimes wonder if all the artificial sweeteners are doing the same thing to me as regular "killer white" sugar. I read something about the fake stuff tricking your body. I'm borderline diabetic, have always stayed right "under the line" and if I take another twenty pounds off, again..., my numbers will improve. Just wonder what the Splenda is doing... as I sip my coffee happily.
