Good Afternoon. 1225, sunny, a cold 51* with 53% humidity and a 10 mph gusting north wind. Forecast calls for a high of 53* and a low of 29*. Earlier when I walked over to change out the SD cards in the game cameras it was in the 40's, and with the wind, it was cold.

Wayne, I hope the shot will get you through the holidays. My sister had the knee replacement and she is doing pretty good with it. If you go that way, just make sure you do your rehab like they tell you. It will have a big effect on how you are able to use the new knee afterward.

Drew, loved the poem. Well done. Margie and I walked to the graveyard before lunch. The holidays are for all your family, the living and the departed.

Everyone remember to leave out some milk and cookies for Santa tonight. Merry Christmas.

Also remember Santa can eat any kind of cookie and enjoys all kinds of Milk...so don't forget him is right....;)

Now Brin, you simply cannot feed Santa marijuana brownies and sour mash "milk". He's got to keep moving...and he can't afford
any more DUI's...:D

I think his elves should drive.

Well on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the worse I am pleased to report I am not a 10. I fall somewhere between 8 - 9. I got an injection this morning and we will see if that holds for a few days/weeks then there is also a chance to have another injection after that. The next move will be knee replacement and I get to pick when that will be done. The Cortisone shot this morning made things feel just fine, so I am sure once the novocaine wears off I will know what things are going to feel like. The first cortisone is quick acting and will kick in in about 24 hours. The up side is that they are getting much better at the knee replacement operations and the recovery will be shorter, so they say. My joint problem is arthritis and it is effecting both knees and elbow joints at this time. Heck it has been a great run and I have a few more miles to go so I will decide after the holidays when to plan the first operation.

I've known a fair number of people that got knee replacements and every one of them said they should have done it sooner. That if they knew how well it would have worked they would not have waited.

I'm sorry, this offer does not apply in any state other than Colorado and California...
Hmmmm, just so happens I'm going through Colorado in May.
Perhaps I'll have to check out the local farm store and see what kind of local provisions they have.
And don't go suggesting any of those Rocky Mountain oyster things to me...yeck.

That would be me, times 2. Actually, I didn't let the second one get as bad as the first. Boy, what a difference in quality of life!!!!! As stated, do your therapy.
I only had partials and no formal therapy, but did get instructions from my surgeon. I still do the stationary bike, mostly everyday, usually about 10 miles. The bike works the flex, walking works the extension.

The shot certainly has made things better, not too sure for how long, but tonight I think I will sleep better than I have in a long long time. My knees have taken a beating over the years with a number of ice hockey years. About seven years ago I had some knee work and was told then that the next operation will be joint replacement. At that time he felt with exercise and weight control I might get five years so I look at it as getting an extra two years. The doctor is a good guy and I have no concerns about the operation. I will follow the rehab to the letter for sure. I am sure there are several people that have experienced joint replacement and I am all ears to learn more.

David that is interesting to hear as I am pretty sure that both knees will need to be taken care of. I will follow the doctors orders to a tee and hope to be fly fishing by April!

I tell you folks what,

If you get away from TBN for a few days, it is a monumental task to get caught back up in this thread.

I just got some great news. My best friend's step dad slumped over in his chair at the dinner table 2 nights ago. My buddy was cooking flounder fillets and oysters when this happened and all the family was there. They gave him CPR for 15 minutes with no pulse ever coming back nor breathing. My buddy said he lost all color and was gray and white. The EMS got there and shocked him back to a pulse. Things did not look good after him being out for 15 minutes.

The doctors put a pace maker in him and put him into a coma to relax the brain. They brought him out of it this morning and by the afternoon he was able to talk and move all limbs. He sat up and was joking and cutting up. His heart did not have any cloggage, it just got out of beat and the pace maker is working fine. Hallelujah. I had been praying for him along with others and he seems to be fine now. They will keep a close watch on him and a bit of rehab and should be out in a week or 2.

The doctors told my buddy that the CPR that he did was the difference even though he never got his pulse back during it.

So don't give up on anybody until the EMS gets there.

Merry Christmas Y'all. God does give us miracles.

That's right...as long as you keep the blood oxygenated and flowing, there's a chance of preventing brain death.

I've been thinking about getting a home defibrillator. They aren't that expensive (just over $1K) and can prevent a death...

Sounds like your friend's step-dad had an arrhythmia...the upper and lower chambers of the heart got out of sync. That's what I had in 2008 and is why I now have a pacemaker. BTW, some pacemakers have a defibrillator built in (mine doesn't). You might ask your friend to check on what his step-dad has.
The doctors never figured out what caused mine...but I'm guessing in was from drinking hard liquor. I worked at a foundry then (in PA) and we all drank like fish.

"put him into a coma to relax the brain..They brought him out of it this morning and by the afternoon"

Indeed very lucky man.

12/10/2010 when the doctor put me in sleeping coma from heart attack for 14 days, doctors told me almost average time for brain and heart trying to repair.

Speedy recovery wishes to your friend father.
