It is 12* here, and may drop another degree or two before the sun comes up. I'm off to my barn, then a friend's barn for some work today. I hate to break it to you guys, but until this weather warms up, or I am back in front of the fire in the fireplace, I now fit the description of "frigid b*tch".

Unbelievable cold in the Midwest

At this point, even zero degrees sounds balmy.

The afternoon "high" temperatures in parts of the Midwest won't even warm up to zero on Monday, the National Weather Service said.

Throw in some fierce winds, and you get winds chills like 55-below-zero in Duluth, Minnesota; 34-below-zero in Chicago; and 24-below-zero in St. Louis.

Twenty years ago on business I was in downtown Chicago during the winter. I forgot something and tried to take a walk to a drug store two blocks away. I turned the wrong way and honestly thought I was going to freeze to death before I got back to the hotel. That wind just howled down the streets.
And at thirty four below zero? I never would have made it.

My home is one hundred percent electric. Electric emergency heat on the heat pump, which is the latest high efficiency type. I wonder how warm I'd be if the temp dropped to fifteen below here? The problem in this severe cold is people turn on anything they can find to get warm. And their homes burn down because of it.
Be careful with those space heaters folks.

64 at 6 am, 61 now, 35 by noon 8-9 by tomorrow morning. I'm trying to figure out how to keep a momma kitty and her 4-5 month old kitten from freezing. They stay under a building ramp, I think I'm going to put a piece of plywood with a cut down cardboard box and a blanket with a heating pad under it, under the ramp. We're all God's creatures.

Drinking second cup of coffee. 43° with clouds this morning. Heading to 49° with some sun. Got lucky with cloud cover this morning. Do not have to go very far north to find freezing temps. Next 2 dayx will be a good time to stay inside. Schools will stay closed at our home up north today. Kind of miss not being able to plow the 12" of snow though. NOT!

Rain stopped and 47 degrees. We never got the 60 plus temps that show for the eastern part of the state as close as 10 miles southeast of us. We'll get a taste of single digits tonight to give us an appreciation of what you northerners must endure (and apparently you Texans, too.) At least we'll get back above freezing on Thursday.

Good Monday Morning. 0655, overcast, 36* {and dropping} with 85% humidity and 10-15 mph NW winds. The forecast is for 37* at noon, but right now it's going the other way. The low tonight has been bumped up to 21*. I'll have to drip water in all the out buildings. Trying to decide when would be the best time to do it. Once the sun gets up good, I'll see what it feels like out there.

Sister and BIL will be coming over to watch the big game tonight. They depend on over the air signal {and us} for TV viewing. I'll be working, so I'll catch the 1st half there, then hurry home for the 2nd half. Glad these bowl game halftime shows are sooooo long. Good luck to the Noles.

31 right now and a high of 44 today with 100% probability of rain. Walks are wet, but they don't look slick...not that it matters, I'm not going anywhere.

The toe is looking pretty good, that scratch on my cornea is healed...but I've still got the achy bug.

I believe the weather is what is euphemistically called "changeable". Yup.
Sure gives us something to talk about when we are wintered in.
