Flood Warning, Areal Flood Warning, Flash Flood Watch, Special Statement

well the Delaware River is still clogged with ice and actually it's going to be a pretty nice somewhat warming day today, regardless of
all the warnings, which are only for low lying areas.

Amazon is supposed to deliver my new bedroom tv today, will see how that works out. Always wonder how many times the gorillas drop them...
The new one has wifi, so I can watch Netflix movies in the bedroom, and the old one is going on the wall in the exercise room in front of the treadmill.
This is my reward to myself for thump, thump thump. I waited until after Christmas and boy I wonder how Samsung can sell a top rated 50 inch plasma tv for under eight hundred bucks and still make money. It was the one Crutchfield said was best bang for the buck, but they didn't have any in stock.
Someday I'll do a 4K set in the family room but not yet. Since I only watch movies and don't watch tv, not a high priority for me now, I'd rather have a better pc monitor.

I am on a detective mission this morning. I stopped taking Propecia for my slowly balding head at my primary doc's request, he said it was hard on me. Now I read that the same drug is effective in lowering male PSA. Hmmm, and what just jumped for me and got me an appt at the urologist? My PSA jumped, and I just happened to stop taking propecia. Hmmmm. Have some calls to make. More hair on top and lower PSA sure sounds attractive to me...as long as something important is not being masked.

28 this morning high of 42 today and back to work after this cold spell. Good luck Drew with your rebuilding project. Samsung must be really selling a lot of TVs

25 when I left this AM. The frozen pipe in the outbuilding, unfroze itself. I added a heat lamp to the crawl space over there, but it was above freezing in that area to being with. I seriously think I have a supply line that is not deep enough, the ground is in the shade all day too. Oh well.

Suppose to be some slight snow moving in on Friday, with rain on Saturday and temps pushing 50.

I just wish it would even out with the temperature these next few weeks.

yeah and I'd feel better if they made them here, like Hondas, but since all the components come from Asia, well
what's the point.

I used to own an electronics business and can remember when it was still possible to get made in USA electronics. Problem was the Sony, Panasonic and Hitachi competitors simply worked better, and often cost less than an RCA or Sylvania. And certainly less than a build it yourself Heath Kit color tv.
I've seen a few US made electronics today but not in mass produced consumer goods. The satellite dish on my motorhome is a Wineguard and built in the USA.
that kind of amazed me actually.

Good morning, 5F here heading to 23F. Suppose to hit 41 on the weekend with rain. Driveway is going to become a muddy mess.:(

You know, Don, I'm less than impressed with this gage. The stinkin' center tube only goes to 1" total. the base of the gage could have had a bit higher ridge to make placing the inner gage easier and hold it so it doesn't flop around while you try to put on the larger collector at the top. The other thing is that they could have added some markings to the big part of the gage for rains over 1". The fact that you have to pour off the first inch and then refill the inner tube several times for rains over 1" makes this very inconvenient. This gage could have been made so much better with a minimum of effort, but they didn't do it. I could never recommend this to anybody. I was truly disappointed when I removed it from the box and started struggling to put it together. :(
I have one of these rain gauges. Brought it down with me to TX. Does a great job. Except as you have noted. It has been out since we arrived in early December. Gives very accurate readings compared to my neighbors. I did not like having to pour water from big tube to small. This is the first time I have ever had to pour water from one tube to the other. We do not have heavy rains back home like down here in TX. I plan on making a holder for small tube when I get home. I am afraid to leave it out in the cold of MI. I am sure it will break from the freezing temperatures we get in the spring and fall.
I like your idea of a thumb screw. Although mine has survived 50+mph winds without problems.
Looking at weather forecast for the next couple of weeks. It will be awhile before I see any rain accumulation in the gauge.

Got coffee poured. 58° with clouds this morning. Heading to 75° with light rain that may never make it to the ground. Weatherman missed the high temperature for yesterday by a few degrees. 72° with sun felt good. Going to do some bird watching at a local preserve. Lot of colorful birds.
Drew, good luck with your surgery.
Good Morning All.

My late brother took the active ingredient in Propecia for high blood pressure.

Well, Don, my complaints are not about the CoCoRaHS gage compared to an automated gage, but the things they could have easily done to this gage to make it better. Reading reviews on Amazon say lots of folks have trouble keeping the top funnel in place with more than a 30 mph wind. It sounds like they don't consider a loss in accuracy if the top funnel is laying on the ground, possibly in several pieces. I will drill mine and place a thumbscrew in place to cure this problem, but at the price they charge, it should be included. How about the top having a small pour spout to keep from spilling rain as you repeatedly pour it into the center measuring tube?

What I think is that I could invent a far superior gage, but if a cousin of somebody at CoCoRaHS makes the other gage, they would/will never accept it.

Jim, I have had 50 mph winds here and the top funnel has never came off this entire year. Since the rain gauge is emptied each day make it easy to remove if you feel you must secure it. Since the funnel is the same size as the base, if the funnel does blow off you still get an accurate reading - just pour the water into the center tube and record the measurement.

My CoCoRaHS funnel has never blown off, either. We've had a number of cold rains that froze in the gauge before morning and no damage to the gauge. On the few occasions we receive over 1 inch in one day, I use the funnel to help pour from the big tube into the smaller calibrated one.

this discussion on rain gauges is very interesting, sure learning something here and I think it's a core issue for anyone who works the soil or the forest.
It's not how much rain fell at the nearest town, it's what falls in our own fields that will determine how things grow, assuming no irrigation.
or whether our trees will start dropping their leaves earlier, because we didn't get that last downpour that dumped an inch of rain ten miles North of us.

I'm going to get an automatic one, but now I know what the downsides are.
we talk about the weather each morning, it's what interests us, so I think knowing the rain amounts
are really helpful. And that gurgling noise is the sound of Dave/Sodamo's excellent water tanks overflowing from the last twenty inch
storm he got.

12*F and mostly clear. The low was 8*F.

Those nasty weather people keep shaving a few degrees off of our weekend heat wave. Oh well, we don't really need a sloppy mess in the middle of January anyways. We still could get five days in a row that get above freezing.

4 degrees and clear...high of 21 predicted

Maybe snow showers on Friday, then a weekend warm up to almost 50 degrees!

-17 this morning with sunny skies then we start to warm up over the next few days.Today we will hit a high of 13.

Good Morning. 1020, overcast, 47* with 91% humidity. Forecast calls for a high of 53* with 40% chance of rain this afternoon, and a low of 49* with 40% chance of rain tonight. I woke when Margie was leaving for work around 0600. The downspout for the gutters is by the bedroom and there was so much water falling that I thought the rain had got here early. But when I raised the blinds to look, figured out it was just the frost on the roof melting.

I have the Pee-Wee football banquet at work tonight. All those little boys climbing the walls will have me climbing the walls.

Everyone have a good day.
