21F. Buppies, our local weather guys are finally predicting what you've said for several days - a foot of wet snow tomorrow night and they said the P word - power outages. Drew, I need your back up generator. I guess we'll do the preparation dance today - firewood work for me and grocery shopping for my wife.

better go check the oil in the Generac, but it never seems to use any, ever...
and its Mobil 1 is always clear.

my gen was bogging so badly when the heat kicked on last time it ran, for seven hours, I flipped some breakers to shed load,
freezer, hot water heater, etc, and it ran fine. A heat pump with electric backup, a big toaster..., must really suck juice when it first kicks on.
It's never stalled, but the lights would definitely flicker.

so much tree damage here, some folks just got their power back on yesterday. So they can get ready for Thursday. I can't do that anymore, too old I guess, had to have the whole house gen. Actually put it in for my sick wife, but boy am I glad it's there now. So I can stay warm and watch all my junipers fall over and crack.
The tree and landscaping crews are still putting in dawn to dusk hours around here, and looks like they and us aren't going to catch a break. That ice
is just a shrub and tree killer. And sure not fun to drive in.

4*F, mostly clear, headed to 20*F today.

I'm beginning to get the spring-summer project itch. :laughing: I'm having visions of my 12 acre clearing free of stumps and sprouting new grass.

Poured first cup of coffee. 44° with rain this morning. Heading to 44° with rain and drizzle all day. According to weatherman today's weather will only last one day. Then its back to more normal south TX weather. It does not look good for others to the north and east of here. My son called yesterday. He stopped by our house Sunday. Do not need to worry. Other than driveway that is kept clear by neighbors using my tractor. It would take hours to get to front or rear doors. Snow piled along most road is higher than a SUV. Sure am glad I made the trip south. Even though it has not been as good here as previous years. It is better than home. We almost did stay home. Glad the doctors gave wife OK to travel.

Does your hot water heater really need to run 24 hours/day? And if you don't open your freezer, it will stay frozen for 24 hours. I would put the freezer on at night and leave it shut off during the daytime to shed some of the load.
