6*F and calm. Snow should get here tomorrow early afternoon. 10" +/- with some gusty winds Thursday night. They say it could be blizzard conditions. We haven't had much in the way of drifting snow this winter.

Friday, 2/14 is Valentine's Day. Just a friendly reminder to keep you guys out of trouble.

-5 right now and a high of 32 predicted...

Not much use writing about the snow....
I do feel really bad for those folks in the mid-Atlantic and Southeast...especially the SE. I wish you all the best getting through this.

24 degrees, going to a warmish 39 today, so looks like some change over to rain, with the snow line running through NJ now, but inching over to PA.
DC is getting blasted right now, snowing like crazy there. Snow plows woke me up about 2.30, making a too early pass and banging along the macadam, I guess someone was bored...and someone else was paying for the fuel. But now they can sure come back. The suburban is becoming a giant white blob again.

I guess I'll wait for the neighbor to crank up his blower and start the Pavlovian reaction up and down the street. My almost new Ariens is way down on power, most annoying, it has all of twenty hours on it, and it has tons of additives in it. I have this sinking feeling I have a small head gasket leak. Maybe I'll try torquing down the head bolts for now and see if I get lucky. It's like running on 2hp when one should have 9. So, needless to say, I'll have to take a number of passes at this stuff.
The local dealer had sold out of every snowblower, every generator, every everything. Only a few truck plows left. His Kubota showroom could be danced in, never saw it like that ever. I suggested he quick move a little BX in with a blower on it to his warm showroom and do a little upselling from a 800 dollar snowthrower. He liked that idea...

and I wasn't about to ask his crew to fix my snowblower and line jump. They looked exhausted and frazzled. But hey, you make hay when the sun shines right?
I had already taken in my log splitter tire and they stopped for me and fixed it while I waited; thanks to all the donuts I take in there. They remember...

My neighbor and I worked hard yesterday taking an ice chipper to my driveway, (he did that, not me..._then blew it pretty clean with a leaf blower, and then salted it like crazy. Both of us almost fell from black ice. Not after the salt... otherwise it would be ice under the new snow.
I live on a hill and the driveway has a pretty good pitch to it. so needless to say I blow snow going downhill. But when I hit black ice and the heavy snowblower doesn't move much but i sure do, like having a slow dance with your partner while your feet are doing the mamba. Hang on sloopy. Not good on the back and a few other body parts either. going to go very slowly...going to snow all day anyway.

we can do it, one more...

DC shouldn't have any problems...all the hot air there should melt the snow quickly...refreeze might be an issue though...

think about all the transplants there, and the foreign diplomats whose chauffeurs may have never seen snow. Some of the worst driving I have ever witnessed in snowy weather.

You mean puffs of heat followed by the freeze of inactivity?

Toppop, looks like it's just changed over to rain over your head and headed our way, rain instead of snow.
I am not disappointed...

Well it changed over to rain here about an hour or more ago - beating against the window was rather musical, but got me worried about power outages. So I decided to jump up and get to my chores (and the coffee pot), while the getting was good. Just took the stove ashes out to the pit and measured 5" of very dense snow, and the top inch is crunchy from the rain. Should stop raining later this morning. Andrew the weather guy is calling for 2 -4" more this evening.

Drew, I went to Tractor Supply yesterday, and saw the same thing - they were sold out of generators (except a couple of camping ones) and about everything else snow related.

Sadamo, sorry to hear about the negative changes at your doctor's office. We were switched to a different health plan this year, but everything went smoothly for my wife's arm x-rays and the splint they fitted for her.

that is such good news, looking forward to it being just like that when it gets here. Probably ought to go out now and get whatever has come down off...
and it's still dark out. Time for another cup of coffee...sounds like a better idea.

The only bad thing about the rain, is that the temp is 30F, so it is freezing. Hope it either swings back to snow, or warms above freezing, or it could be bad news for everyone's trees, shrubs, and electricity.

16F cloudy quite before the storm which should be a knocking early afternoon.
Amounts 6-12+ depending on second burst of storm, looks like Saturday will be clean up day.

hmmm, it sure is below freezing now outside, but expected to get to 39 degrees ,which is pretty warm relative to something.
Yeah, boy it's a nice rain now, on my already downed shrubs and wires...
all we can do is sit back and watch, though I'm headed out now to get the snow off before the rain comes.

did you see this story about the sinkhole in Kentucky eating 8 vintage Corvettes?

YES I almost posted it, what a shame...
I wonder what the other car museums are doing now, getting their seismology checked?

If I were an insurer, I'd sure be asking them to check.

Better than 16in and still snowing 22 degrees. No snow plow activity at all guess now it's up to locals and tractors. Supposed to snow most of today and yes saw corvette sink hole. More snow here Friday night not as much before warm up next week

   / Good morning!!!! #19,275

   / Good morning!!!! #19,276
14 degrees and heading to the high 20's
Snow has not started yet, but it is coming for sure
All area schools are closed for today and we will see what happens tomorrow.

   / Good morning!!!! #19,277

   / Good morning!!!! #19,278
Good morning all, 18F here suppose to hit a high of 28F. Now wind, no snow, looks like the storm is staying south of us. A lot of money has fallen into that sink hole. Insurance will be going up and we'll be paying for it.

   / Good morning!!!! #19,279
Good morning! 35˚ getting to 60˚ clear skies. Before you guys get jealous I found a water leak on my main 2" PVC line coming to the house. So I will be in cold mud today. The leak was at a previous repair where I use a telescoping o-ring connection. This time I'll do a four nineties repair.

   / Good morning!!!! #19,280
oh man, two full passes with the blower and a hand shovel. I'm tired, cold, wet and my hand has a bit of a buzz to it.
Time to observe for a little while. The blower is so anemic if I didn't keep up with it I'd be sunk. but if I kept blowing downhill and gave it a little push,
it chugged along, protesting all the way. off to the shop next week.

got about six inches off in two passes, had an inch of new snow in about a half hour. Coming down...
Cleaned the snow off the suburban, which in itself was a lot of snow to dump back on the driveway, and then started it up
with all the heaters on and let it melt the snow for awhile. Sorry Al Gore, I bet you don't have to clean the snow off your car...

I need to go over to my MIl if this turns to rain, but I'm not going out in a blizzard
for jollies. Used to... kinda want to...gonna get in trouble this way. :D

when I was a volunteer fireman, and for years thereafter when I could, we use to routinely pull folk who had spun out
and got them going again. Always a challenge where to hook up to. If you rip off their front bumper, their smiles sure disappear in a hurry.

My older brother just reported in from Delaplane VA, twelve inches down, six more on the way...oh boy.
well, what i dealt with this morning, so far, was nice and light. So far.
Time for some dry pants, actually something waterproof, not blue jeans. Duh.
