Good Morning. 1010, overcast, 79F with 93% humidity. Forecast high of 88F with 60% chance of showers this afternoon, and a low of 72F tonight.
The crowd for the free school supplies is much smaller than normal. The lady who had ran it for the last 10-15 years changed jobs, and a new lady is in charge. I don't think they did as much advertising this time around. Some of the money comes from grants, but most of it is donations from local business. The way it works here is that several {20-25} community groups have booths set up to hand out information. Groups as diverse as the police and sheriff's departments, fire and rescue, library, forestry, the blood bank, a candidate for judge, American Cancer Society, early childhood development, health department and several other state and county children programs all have booths set up. There are some of the booths the families have to go by and get their paperwork stamped before they get the free supplies. Some years the kids have pony rides, bouncy houses and the like. They also have fire trucks and will fly in the Sheriff's Department helicopter later on.
Like I said last night, the free supplies are only worth a few dollars. They use it to get people in the door so they can hand out the information.

Edit: there are a couple of people dressed up as McGriff the Crime Dog, and some sort of big chicken hawk looking thing. {I think he is supposed to be a bald eagle} A little boy just ran screaming though the lobby after seeing the chicken hawk. So it is not fun and games for everyone.
