85 degrees at 15:30 with mostly sunny skies ...

Just woke up and actually got up ... on my first cup.

Stayed up until around 06:00 the last two nights ... got a good nine hours of sleep last night, but only three hours the night before ...

Our oldest came up yesterday morning for a visit and stayed most of the day ... hadn't seen him in quite awhile. Got the full "show and tell" (complete with pictures) on his summer internship with NASA ... was really very interesting to hear about the exotic welding technology and procedures that he's been studying and using. We spent the better part of the day up in the shop, trading stories about the various projects we had been working on, and in my case, the ones I've got lined up but have yet to start. He's got about a week or so before he starts back to school, and he might end up coming back up to work on some of the welding projects I have in the queue.

Eventually the wife made her way up to the shop and we spent another hour or so talking about extended family and friends. His mother fed him some of her spaghetti and sent him home with a couple of pieces of her blueberry pie that she had made.

After he left I went back up to the shed and finished up installing the 1/2" air hose and quick coupler from McMaster that UPS had delivered earlier in the day that connects the compressor to the hard piping in the shop. Then got the wife to come and give me a hand putting up the last section of 3/4" copper to complete the hard piping ... so we now have air. :D

There were (and are) a couple of minor things to fix ... I had left out a teflon sealing ring out of one shutoff valve, so it was hissing when I pressurized the system. I also missed installing a coupler and drain valve on one drop ... had the coupler but have to pick up the drain valve at Home Depot or Lowes later. Also have a coupler of small but steady leaks on the east wall where I tried to cheap out and use a couple of black pipe unions on either side of the filter/regulator/shutoff valve ... I'll pick up a couple of copper unions at the Depot to replace those.

Got a bunch of empty boxes from tools and equipment moved up to the attic to get them out of the way ... the attic itself is a winter project ... there's a snot load of stuff (lumber, pvc and copper pipe, and who knows what) up there that needs to be removed and moved down to the barn. I also discovered several large mouse nests made out of shredded paper towels and pink fiberglass insulation of all things ... so I'll need to put a bunch of mothballs up there to discourage them from hanging around.

Started to fasten the 6-3 wire that powers the outlet for the compressor and welder to the wood shelves ... it's just been laying there across the shelves, so it needs to cleaned up and tied down. Hafta move the compressor though to finish that.

Got a text from Home Depot that the third (and hopefully final) order of drawer dividers for the storage cabinets are in ... hopefully will get all the remaining fasteners and small parts stowed and put away tonight. That should really make a difference. I've gone thru the bottom toolbox and cleaned out all the drawers and organized it, still need to do the same for the top box. You can tell it's starting to get pretty heavy, when you try to roll it around.

Day before yesterday I pulled the Sawzall apart and cleaned out the old grease from the front and middle gear cases and repacked 'em with fresh stuff ... Sawzall now sounds like a new machine. Took a bunch of pictures of that, so I'll probably start a thread and do a write up on that. Did the same (but without any pics) for the angle grinder the day before.

Time to go get a shower and get cleaned up and see how much, if any, the west side air system leaked down overnight.

Hope everyone had a good day.

You need to contact your creditors...NOW! Better to explain the problems and they may work out some type of payment arrangement.
As I'd written in an earlier post, you need to consider bankruptcy. The longer you delay that, the more painful it will be.

Roy,

I hear you sir. I've been contacting my creditors, my solid excellent credit rating is worth a lot to me honestly.

But the sad truth is you cannot go bankrupt due to alimony/child support. The law they used on me i really written for rich folk hiding money in Cayman Islands, not dudes like me hiding cash in a coffee can... Bankruptcy is not an option as far as I've been told by my legal team.

Nope I just got hosed.

Drew,

Have you ever tried to sell something like a motorcycle, or a fancy car in a hurry? So far the best offer I've got on the car is $2000 less than I owe. Of the 4 motorcycles, two have dead batteries ($150 each) of those two, one has a cracked fuel line at a minimum, and he other (my wife's bike) has developed a problem that on hot days it leaks oil just sitting still (has not been started in years), I'm sure mud daubers have totally roached it... Selling all my toys for pennies on the dollar is not going to save my bacon either. Probably still gonna have to do it...

Thanks for the moral support lads, I truly appreciate it.

Be well,
David

Alimony and child support is just one aspect. Your employment situation is the aspect most pertinent at this point...under bankruptcy, you can protect (meaning keep) certain assets...such as your home. Others (the motorcycles and car (except for your daily driver) may go...depends on your state and how the laws work there.
I suspect your legal team is primarily divorce types...may not be particularly knowledgeable about bankruptcy.
It's not the stigma it's made out to be...that doesn't mean your life won't be tough for several years though. Took us about 7 years before we were financially established. But the process did take a great burden off us. We did lose some things to pay creditors, but we didn't lose the house or vehicle. Obviously, one who has gone bankrupt will not get the best rates for several years. BTW, it was my first tractor purchase (a few years after the bankruptcy) through Deere Credit that started getting us re-established. Deere doesn't (or didn't then) seem particularly fazed about a bankruptcy in one's recent past.

David,

Check out CarMax, if they have a location near you ... 15 to 30 minutes of your time for them to appraise the vehicle and they give you number.

You might end up being surprised.

Rswyan,

Yes I was surprised by their quote for $2000 less than I owe... And I have a 0% loan so really I should have gotten a better quote...

Kelly Blue book says private party sales it is worth $23,588, carmax offered $19000. I have an additional 100K miles of prepaid maintenance, and bumper to bumper warranty in addition to what KBB has.

I'm asking $21,995... or best offer...

54 degrees and going to be in the high 70’s today.
got ready to lay the electrical beneath the road last night, but the guy didn’t show up with the backhoe.
It seems to be the simple task that take forever to complete. just running a simple power line to where I keep the RV

64 outside this morning high of 82 later with rain in the forecast again. Looks like it might rain thru the weekend although yesterday was spotty in nature. Ground is completely saturated now so any slow moving storms could cause problems

51F headed toward 80 and dry today.

More rock picking and general cleaning up is the plan for today.

64 degrees going up to 84 today, warming up a bit in advance of a rain front coming in from the West. Much of what is soaking the folks below PA has missed us here; it's been dry.

important day today, the big three hour inspection of the home prior to acceptance. I have made this house as nice as I can, and I am so, so sick of polishing the kitchen sink and faucets, vacuuming every day, etc, etc, all the stuff one goes through. But after today, I can make a big mess because the packers are coming in this weekend to start.

while I'm evicted from home, I'm going over to spend some time with my elderly MIL. My late wife was her caretaker and best friend, so I have been hoping she would move out of her big house in the country and into a retirement/senior living spot, of which there are many locally. Not yet... So I cooked up some steaks last night, tupperwared most of it when I was done, and will take that over to her. She will nibble on those steaks for weeks...loves barbecued anything, can't do that for herself anymore. She has a son in the area, but he is pretty clueless as to what his mother needs other than her lawn mowed. It will take a medical event to get her out of that house I suppose. But if that's where she's happy, fine.

not thrilled with my medical testing. Two thyroid lumps found, likely nothing, my PSA is rising, and if my chest xray yesterday finds anything, well...
getting older is such a thrill...
actually it is.

We are just a little south of Chattanooga this morning and 76 degrees. Heading to Kokomo Indiana where two of my brothers live. Supposed to get to 86 in Kokomo today. My oldest brother is now in a nursing home with Alzheimers so it is going to be sad to see him there.

I'll bet when all this is said and done you will say that it wasn't really that bad. Getting older in some respects can be a state of mind, but we are getting older the parts wear out or break but at least they can fix a lot more now than they used to. Is the tractor happy at its new home?

Drinking second cup of coffee. 62° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 79° with thunderstorms in the afternoon. Got the lawn cut yesterday before rain storms came through. Need to trim today. Back to cleaning up barn and shop. It's a never ending job. Somebody never puts things back away after they are done with a project. :ashamed:
Good Morning All.

Twas 71 leaving the house this AM. Looked at the grass last night, decided to drink beer and lounge by the pool, then I jumped in to let off some steam. Planning exit strategy now, may have to take another overseas contract, so over travel and hot spots. Thinking time for a career change, again.

Hope all is better for the older folks. I always thought if your wits are still around, one can deal with the ache, pains and other nasty stuff that may come along. I just don't want to end up with no mind of my own. Although some would argue, I lost it a long time ago :)

Have a great day.

66 going to 86. Glad to have gotten about a third of an inch of rain yesterday. Got back from the gym, checked that the dew was dry, started up the mower, got three laps done and the bottom fell out.

Drew, hoping things look okay on your tests. Nice what you're doing for your MIL.
