Poured first cup of coffee. 58° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 83° with lots of sun. Another patio day. 300GUY has a good plan. Head south for warm weather.
Good Morning All.

A very warm 66F this morning with increasing winds gusting to 17 MPH but still no measurable rain. The Pineapple Express due in last night is still to our north, and now the weather guessers are saying it'll drop down here by noon. Storm accumulations are still in the 4"-8" range for us, but predictions like this have been erring to the low side.

Glad you're feeling better Buppies!

Delete doesn't seem to be working on this duplicate, so I'll just change the message...

Dave, so far this year the storms have been gentle, dropping a few inches over several days. If this one does the same thing, the rain'll have time to soak in before it starts running off into the reservoirs, and that'll help keep landslides and debris flow in check. At the very north end of the Central Valley the ground rises rapidly acting as a squeegee on the rain clouds. That's where they put Shasta Lake, the largest reservoir in the state. They've had flooding in low lying areas and some slides where fires have burned in the last couple of years. I'm a little too far south to get much of that kind of action though.

I wish we had some snow so I could get bored with it only seen a few flakes nothing like last year or 2009-10. We are getting dry with all the wind we've been having

We've had a lot of moisture this winter following a dry late summer and fall. When it finally got cold after the first of the year, there was still a steady stream of run-off water in the little ditch beside my driveway. That froze on top first then all the way to the bottom. There is plenty of ground water locked up in ice now waiting for spring.

Snow melt produces a lot of spring run-off but a good bit of the snow cover sublimates from the surface--converts from snow/ice to water vapor without passing through a liquid state.

About now, you could have all the free snow you want. :D

Good luck with the rain. That's quite a shot to get all at once.

19 this morning and headed to 46 today. We didn't get above freezing yesterday. Did some shopping and errands. Picked up a new welder. Well to me. Lincoln 125 wire feeder. New 10lb of flux core wire and some tips. May try it out today.

16 out this AM, cloudy. Wind seems to have died down. Suppose to get in the 50's this w/e. Man, we have had some wild temp fluxes this year. Snow? Not amounting to much so far. Gosh, under 6 inches maybe, so far....

Stay warm and safe everyone.

Six inches of BM 25 base mix asphalt in two lifts, temperature has to be 35 degrees and rising

The ditches are in city streets and in spring we will mill entire road and repave 800 tons or so

Good Morning. 0930, sunny, 45F with 49% humidity. Forecast high of 60F with 0% chance of rain this afternoon, and a low of 33F tonight. I was out working before the frost melted this morning. A rare event lately.

JD, I have a subsoiler and a potato plow/middlebuster (which I found laughably useless in PA trying to go through clay and rocks). I don't think they are it. Subsoiler doesn't flip anything aside and not sure on the potato plow.
Larro, pics? And what does the tree planter look like? One Larro powered?

during my first winter at this new home, I am now seeing all the neighboring homes that I wasn't able to when I bought the place in the summer. So I am on a tree planting binge this Spring, and Larro, other than drilling one hole at a time, didn't know if your technique would help, unless that's how you plant christmas tree farms and other high density planting.

I've been over to the Forestry station and picked up the scalper. Now I have to walk over to Sister's to get the 3930. I still have to rig up some sort of marker. The rows will be 9' so it will reach out 6' past the wheels. I have some tomato stakes that might work. Here is the scalper. It will be next Thursday when the trees are delivered, so I'll post pictures of the planter then.

Hope every is having a good Friday,

Larro.....thanks for the pic....have never seen such an implement.

me neither for sure. Pretty neat gadget, primary sod cutting disc, then discs to fling sideways, not plowshares. Though the separator in the middle could be considered a little plow...
Larro, for this, we need an action video like Ted and Peanut.

Get well soon Buppies.

And the Anthem cyber-attack? Huge deal. Salary info too, and if you have been with them for a while, a nice pattern of your personal data exposed...

Ditto on the Get Well Buppies!!!!

On the Anthem deal... There is no better field to go into right now that "Cyber Security" I'm telling you. Our data is wide open and the hackers have the same ethics as those ISIS animals...

Be well all,
David

24F and partly sunny at times ...

Have spent the better part of the last two days retrofitting the idler wheel on the bandsaw ... the original bushing setup was steel and had worn very badly ... the new Grizzy saws come with different sheaves that are big enough to take two ball bearings.

Didn't have enough meat on the one end to bore it for a ball bearing, so we bored it out to take a ball bearing on the end where most of the load is and an oilite bronze bushing on the other. PR doin' the deed:

IMG_1928.JPG

Installed the bearing and bushing last night ... just need to ream the bushing out for the final fit and throw it back together. Will be nice to have that piece of equipment operational again.
