Good morning!!!!

Each morning it's always a relief to get round the fields without seeing any problems. Today we have a thick fog that doesn't want to lift, so I didn't see much of anything.

Work has been progressing well on the workshop. I will be spending most of the day putting insulation in the stud walls. Got to be careful I don't do it to too well though, as others are already saying it would make a good holiday cottage instead.

44 with a sunny 67 forecast. I'm sure these days in the 60s are confusing the trees flowering shrubs and bulbs.

We were talking yesterday, and we're not ready for spring until we get a good snow. Roy, send us about 10 inches, okay? Will your blower shoot it this far?

Drew, I feel for you. Hope everything is now fixed correctly.

I'm invited over to cut more firewood today where a friend had a lot of oaks blow over. The remainder are down in a steep ravine, so should be interesting.

2F, light snow flurries. 3-5" inches forecast for today & tonight. High around 11F.

Doesn't sound like there will be enough snow to mess with until tomorrow.

Eric, good luck in keeping your shop. :D

Have a good Sunday.

12 degrees right now. Steady snow coming down...Dave and Thomas hit the mark. 3-5 inches here too...today, tonight and into Monday. No particular plans today, but whatever I do, it will probably involve snow sooner or later.

Updated...looks like a total (by Monday evening) of somewhere between 8 and 14 inches of fresh snow.

Morning ladies and gents. Starting off foggy this morning, but warmer. Going to get close to 80 today with plenty of sunshine. Should feel like spring. 70s until Friday, when another front moves through.

Have a great day wherever you are.

53 this morning and headed to mid sixties I believe. Forecast says 56. But I think it'll turn out like yesterday. Work on building today is the only thing I have planned. We have some young red maples (planted last spring) that are starting to bud. They are still very small but these warm spells are making the trees also think about spring.

54F, no wind, and overcast this morning. Supposed to be another storm headed this way later today, and I'm hoping for another couple inches of rain. The driveway held up pretty well from Friday's rain, but the tiny ridge in the gravel I left with the box scraper was enough to cause a little bit of rutting, so I'll need to be more careful next time.

Found a couple broken limbs from Friday's wind up near the gate, surprising since that area is somewhat sheltered by the hill top and trees lower on the hill were undamaged.

Probably get a start on income taxes today since it'll be too wet to get anything done outside. Always ticks me off that the first third of my income each year goes to pay them, and they're so complicated to figure out I have to spend even more money for special software or professional help. But I suppose there are worse problems, right?

sodamo, the bearing and bolt shops around here really try to take advantage with their pricing, but usually they have what's needed in stock and the few dollars extra isn't going to break the bank. But when the price is almost triple and the situation isn't urgent, I'll use the Internet every time, too. Best of all worlds when you can do the job yourself and save money on parts at the same time, isn't it?

Roy, the only place I have to put my hoe is a gravel lot, and every time I go to put it back on it's a struggle because it has settled and not sitting right. Not to mention the joys of crawling on gravel and losing nuts and washers in it. Some day I hope to have a spot on a concrete apron, hopefully under an awning, that'll make the job go a little easier.

Kyle, my old Wellsaw has a spring to lower the blade. I looked at Surplus Center for a hydraulic unit, boy howdy does that place sell a lot of stuff! Wasn't sure what to call it and came away empty handed. Can you point me in the right direction?

Here's hoping for a relaxing Sunday everyone!

The aerial views show a lot. Driving threw Detroit neighborhoods shows how bad the blight really is.
A drive along Jefferson Ave from Groose Point to Detroit gives a Night and Day view of how bad it really is.

I haven't been to Detroit in many years, and that was usually just to the airport.

I think it is a unique thing happening there. I don't recall such an example of a major city declining to that extent. We are watching a social experiment of sorts.

45 and sunny here, heading to 55 today. Decided to start this morning on some odd jobs like finally sealing around floor vents that I never did during construction. Forgot and left a cover off of one. Some strange scratching noises made me realize my daughters ferret was out of the cage and now in our duct system. After an hour of tapping and banging to get her to move she finally made her way out at the opposite end of the house. Disaster has been averted and the world is turning once again. Looks to be a good day.

These are the best IMO for repairing PVC buried pipes. Only need to expose about a foot of the line to repair.

Slip Fix PVC Repair Coupling
But if there is any torque on the line at all (meaning the line isn't perfectly straight) then the rubber seal WILL leak - at some point. I prefer a solid glue standard coupling joint ... holds for me every time.

Kyle, in about 2 weeks will be the prime potato planting time. I need to grab some onions also.

Don -- Bernice has me working her garden - yesterday and today -- not sure what she has going or planned....I'm just the go-fer and do-fer -- I'm no gardener -- but I lift & tote purty good. Better get out there. She went out and I have instructions to join her as soon as I fixed the plugged shower drain. (hair) Hoping to start a hanging door on the goat shed I'm building. Going to try to weld up 1 1/2" square tubing for frame then attach R panel to it. Considering my lack of welding talent - should be interesting at least.

I have found that those leak if they are of the style that only has one o-ring on the expansion side. If they have two I-rings they do pretty good. I had a spot that kept breaking because it ran under buildings and the ground would freeze and pull it apart. My local plumbing supply house told me to use one of these knock on's said it would let it move some and stop breaking. Said just make sure to get it in the center.

None yet.

We fed the birds (and squirrels ) through the winter at our old house. The houses were more and closer together there and the birds definitely knew what a bird feeder was. The first time I hung up a feeder there, the birds were on it before I got back into the house. Birds are amazingly observant I've noticed.

I haven't fed the birds here for the past 4-5 years. I think it will take a while for them to show up. Blue Jays, Chickadees, Woodpeckers and Nuthatches are what I expect. Nuthatches have been pretty scarce lately though. Cardinals are more open field or edge dwellers than forest birds and there are no grain fields around here. The area grass hay fields are under 2' + of snow, so nothing for birds there now.
