Good morning! 41˚ heading to 65˚almost clear skies - nice day. The Jet stream is keeping all that cold air to the East which is fine with me.

I was out washing the car in a t-shirt and shorts yesterday. Of course, like everything I touch lately, the pressure washer didn't come on until I took it apart and fixed the sticking pressure switch. Our Yellow cat of 17 years died peacefully yesterday. He just walked out and laid under a tree to die. We brought him in where it was warmer and he lived for about 4 more hours. Yellow - RIP

Some letters just get change as they cross the pond.

65, that's nice weather. Sorry about Yellow, 17 years is a long time to have a pet, you just expect to see them in their normal places after that many years.

A Brit I used to work with liked to say, "UK and USA, two nations divided by a common language." :D

Coffee has been poured. 56° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 83° with partly cloudy skies. Another bitterly cold day in MI. -12° with a high of 4°. Another day here in AZ on the patio with an adult beverage.
txdon, RIP Yellow.
Good Morning All.

It was -4 when I woke up this AM. Sun is up and it is 5 now. No wind. Highs expected in the 20's today.

This is bug killing weather here.

Have a good day all, stay safe and warm.

-0.4F and some thin clouds @ 08:00 by the looks of it ... I can hear the wind occasionally ...

Really not looking forward to going outside to move this pine wood around back ... but it's got to be done.

No fire in the shop yesterday ... so it will be quite chilly in there today I'm sure. Thankfully I have the Espar heater in the van ... so the ride up won't be too painful ... and I can get a fire started in the shop and then go sit in the van while it gets cranked up.

Wife fed the furnace before she left this morning ... so there was a nice little fire going in there when I went down to feed it a few minutes ago. Must have burned pretty well overnight as the temp in the house is above 60F ...

Hafta run into Summers Rubber today for a couple of hydraulic fittings.

Other than that nothing much on the schedule for today ... other than feeding the stoves/furnaces. I was instructed yesterday by SWMBO that that should be my sole activity for the day.

Might see if I can get the flue damper opened up in the basement fireplace chimney so we can use the woodburning insert in the downstairs living room, given that tonight's low is supposed to be -16F or some such nonsense ...

Everyone stay warm and safe.

Currently -6 with windchill of -11. Low last night got down to -13. High today is 12. Wind kept drifting in my drive so it's another pass with plow then switch to hay spear to feed cows. Then staying warm rest of day.

Txdon sorry about your cat.

Eric. Why are you swapping flocks? Is this a summer pasture thing? I have a buddy that bought 40 of the Katadhin sheep a few weeks ago. Right now all he can talk about is how much hay they are eating. They're eating about 1/3 of what that many cows are.

Good Morning. 0755, sunny, 30F with 60% humidity. Forecast high of 46F with 0% chance of rain this afternoon, and a low of 25F tonight. Our low was 25F, 3 degrees higher than forecast. Maybe tonight's will be in the same direction. It got real windy yesterday when I was at the river-field. More of the same this afternoon, just colder. I'm going to town early while it's the coldest, then back to planting skips in the longleaf pines. It's taking 15-20 minutes per row, so there is 3-4 hours of work there.

Don, sorry to hear about Yellow. We have a few color named cats too. There is Orange, White Corn and Black Tom. Ours are farm cats, so most are not the petting kind, but Orange does hang on the front porch and can be approached. The others are always down by the garden and run when you come outside.

Dave, nice pictures.

Eric, you can't judge a dog by looks. My BIL raises Redbone coonhounds and gamecocks. One of the pups was raised with the chickens and turned out to be the best chicken dog ever. Until she died of snakebite a couple of summers ago, they had almost no loss due to varmints.

Hope everyone has a good day. You guys with the ice and snow be careful,

Larro

Many years ago I stayed with friends over a week and got a taste for what it is like to go out night after night during lambing time.
The first night is fun and very satisfying. The next night is also great, though by then I was starting to feel a little tired. After a few days you being to appreciate just how hard it really is and it goes on for weeks.
With two of them it is still hard work, but at least they can take it in turn. Also my friends have room to take them inside and are much better shepherds than I could ever be.
This way I get to sleep most nights and still have time to do some part-time engineering work, which pays a little better than farming.

So you think the Katadhin enthusiasts may have been talking up the good points and silent on the rest ?
Now isn't that a surprise for a livestock breeder.;)
Still would be good to hear how he gets on over the year .

England - aluminium - for some reason they gave it an extra "i" and made it sound like a Roman town.
