Good Morning. 1025, sunny, 54F with 66% humidity. Forecast high of 66F with 0% chance of rain this afternoon, and a low of 39F tonight. Our low was 33F. Cold enough there was a frost on the roof, but it only lasted until the sun came up. I heard it running down the drain spout @ 0630 when the alarm interrupted my 4 hours of slumber. I have another late night at work again tonight, but I don't have to be in until noon tomorrow, so I should get a little more sleep tonight.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend,

Larro

Thanks, that is what I have been using an it appears to work good if you allow it some time to dry. I just had just one leak with the blue glue where I rushed the last connection dry time at the end of the day before adding pressure. The other two leaks were broken PVC and rusted metal. I hope this next leak is on the other side of the meter.

Have you had any more thoughts about aging parents living independently on the ranch/farm? It's not an easy subject.

Independently is a relative term. Mamma lives between Sister and me, {about 300 yards from each of our houses} so we can keep an eye on her. But she's yelling at me to get her garden cut up so she can gets seeds in the ground, and she is a spry 87 years old.

62°F and 2.5 inches rain last 24 hours. A bit on the chilly side. Snow up on the mountain

Not too much planned today, have to start cooking my roast about noon for dinner with friends.

Be safe
Have a great day

Yes, it is. That's a nice enough situation you have. You and your sister can share some tasks and monitoring.

My Mom is 88 and lives alone in a condo we moved her to in 2008. She has a small patio with some flower bed borders she can mess with as the mood strikes her. The main thing is the yard work and snow clearing get done plus she has a garage for her car. Window frost scraping and snow brushing gets to be a chore when age and arthritis sneak up on you. Remote starters help but I lost track of how many times she had trouble with that.

The drawback is she is 1000 miles away so anything that needs attention means I can't do much about it myself. It would have been easier and less expensive for me to build a granny house and move her here. But, that would have meant taking her away from her friends and some family contact.

Yes, one can't do it . . . unless . . . you have close family to look after you and your property. We have lots of 80 and 90 year olds around here and all have their family to look after them. Hiring out everything is an option if you don't have a family close by, but there are limitations and problems with that also.

Good evening! 56˚ overcast. I gather up my tools an went to Dads water leak and all the water was gone  - including the 3" in the water meter box.
YEA!!!!!!
So all the water was just runoff from the 1/3" rain 3 days ago on the already saturated ground around the repair. I would have lost that bet.
I now declare it fixed - and holding.

I think someone explained once why you folks in the south don't use poly piping? Y'all fix a lot of water line leaks. :D

I do have poly in my house but all the outside underground lines are PVC. My line from the meter 4/10 mile is 2" and my Dads 2/10 mile is 1.25".

I thought someone gave a reason once why poly is not used outside in your region, meter or well to house. We use poly on wells around here. I don't know of anyone using PVC from a well to the house.

Good morning,
One of the lambs that arrived yesterday had a broken leg.
It's now all bandaged and splinted and stands a fair chance of healing, however he did need to go in a pen with only his mum and no other big ewes to knock him around.

A few other new arrivals also needed shutting in for the night. No problem, I had another new bay in the barn sectioned off and ready, except for a gate that needed hanging. I even had a borrowed gate all waiting to go, it just needed one single old nut loosening to get the hinge in the right place and the nut had been soaking up a diesel/oil mix for the past couple of days. Then we had a standoff. The nut had no intention of moving and I wasn't coming in until it did. I knew I was just being stubborn, a bit of baler twine would have worked fine. Didn't want to damage it as it was an odd thread size and needed to go back on in a different slot. As the light faded I set to tapping away with a hammer and blunt chisel like a demented woodpecker who has just slipped a weasel.

Finally the nut (the one on the gate, not the one with the hammer) gave up the fight and came off intact.

Last night I went to bed tired but satisfied. It had been a fruitful day after all.

PS Still reading the bridge chapter from txdon's autobiography. Fascinating.

14 degrees right now. Warm today...upper 30's so we should see a fair amount of melting. The trend over the next 10 days or so is warming...guess Ol' Man Winter is finally giving it up.
Today's plans...not much. I have some paperwork I brought home (from work) to review and edit.

For those of you who didn't do it last night...it's "Spring Forward" an hour...reset your clocks.
