RS, unfortunately I've found our legal system to be an unreliable remedy for such issues. All too often it costs more to pursue satisfaction than the loss is worth. Only the attorneys win in most situations. Hope you have better luck.

Roy, hope you're feeling better. Summer's a horrible time for the flu. Not that winter's any better.

Drew, hope the doc can figure out a way to get rid of the hitch in yer gitalong. From what "they" say, you and Buppies are about to have one of the best days in a boat owner's life. The other one is supposed to be the day you sell the boat. :laughing:

Kyle, glad you and yours are OK. Maybe the power or Internet went out in the non-reporting areas?

Dave, sounds like you've got just about the nicest weather today. About time, eh?

Dunno how I did it, but somehow I wired the power lead to ground on the driving lights. For some reason it popped the fuse every time! :duh: Should be an easy fix, then on to getting that new pump installed on the sprayer.

Speaking of the legal system, I was granted a divorce yesterday. It was supposed to be a trial, but before court was even called into session the judge called the attorneys into chambers and announced she wasn't interested in hearing arguments. Made it clear she'd already made up her mind by reading the trial briefs, and there was almost no chance of changing her mind. At that point it was just a matter of figuring out the lowest cost option, so I agreed to a forced settlement. They call it the legal system, but there was no justice meted out in that room yesterday. At least now that's behind me and I can get on to living my life.

RNG, a new leaf has turned over. It is now in your wake. Have an extra glass of that Bogle. Sounds like the judge is one of those who favors women, and does what she does to speed things up through her court. A judge telling you she has "pre-judged" demands to be voted out. I have been there before, no kids at the time, very low complications, so it went by without the clock hardly making a tick sound.

OTOH, I got my van back from the mechanic shop. He said it "kicked their butts". I think there was more to the story than he fessed up to, but the price he originally quoted me after initial diagnosis, was held. It only took them almost an extra week.

Exactly the setup I was looking for, a/c helm, not too big, cheap to run. And very seaworthy.
when I was a yachtbroker for Richard Merritt in Ft Lauderdale for three years, I went on about thirty sea trials
and surveys. And then went through the back and forth about who pays for what. That whole process can get unpleasant at times, overheating engines, leaking stuffing boxes, a/c that stops, toilets that smell...the list is utterly endless. And you are never sure you caught all the problems. Some lay hidden.

I do not exaggerate...since on the maiden voyage of my first boat, a 33 Carver aft cabin, one of the Crusader big block exhaust manifolds plugged up off the shoals near Atlantic City causing one of the rubber exhaust hoses to run dry and almost ignite . Billowing clouds of black smoke pouring out of the cabin of the boat, the engine room being right under the salon/living room floor. Alarm bells ringing. Everyone frantically donning life preservers and getting ready to jump overboard. In the Atlantic Ocean miles ten miles offshore...

However....while I did have a paid captain, a sailboat captain but a good guy, it was my boat, and I was captain too so I had to go into the engine room and figure out what was going on. As we bobbed and heaved in offshore swells. And I'm getting seasick now that we aren't moving and my hands aren't on the wheel. Are we having fun yet?

Carefully I crack the carpeted engine room hatch which is now getting black around the edges from burning rubber smoke and with all the windows open and a bright flashlight I saw the culprit, in meltdown. Black rubber bubbling in front of me. Why that hose hadn't ignited, maybe it had partially, but now it was out and just smoldering. The surrounding area was not badly damaged; luckily I was a volunteer fireman so I had some basic skill here. So I let it be and we started up the other engine, which ran nicely thankfully and headed off like a crab through the large inlet there and into the Atlantic City marina, at the big casino. Really nice marina, and we were coming in like the captain was drunk. We radioed in, explained our challenges and they directed us as directly as they could. I asked my powerboat friend to take the wheel, he had more experience than any of us, and he did his best, and we did not trade fiberglass when we landed, most ungracefully against the fuel dock.
What a day.

So...even after a sea trial and survey, one's maiden voyage getting the boat home can sure be a doozie from my experience. I would be taking this boat South out of the Albermarle into the Pamlico sound and River. At 12 knots an all day trip for sure. I wonder if second time will be the charm...
My local fireman friends both own boats and are experienced so I'll take one of them along if this works out.
And my friend from Delaware might want to be on the maiden trip just for the fun of it. Once the boat is back in your own slip, you can get things fixed, cleaned, etc to your liking. The boat is out of the water now, so I get to inspect the hull.

I have a huge list of questions to ask the guy about the 300hp Yanmar diesel. Particularly details on the engine cooling system. And the generator is seriously high tech, and seems high end with a tiny Farryman diesel hooked up to a high end Italian generator. I think the current owner has spent mucho buckos on this thing, and that's what you want, for the "last guy" go have spent the money, so you don't have to. Because someone is going to have to...and one never gets all one's repair/upgrade investment out of a boat. And it even has a nice toilet. Hey, important for the ladies. And me.
I'm getting older, can't take any pounding, so I need to go slower and this boat should go slowly nicely. And go much faster if need be.

So Buppies, all this investigatory angst is what you avoid when you buy new. Though new boats need a real break in too.
I hope you have as much fun with yours as I intend to have with this.
Back on the water again.

Drew hope you enjoyed looking at the boat today. She is a real beauty and if she checks out would be a handsome addition to your family. My grandfather had a 57 or 58 chriscraft 28 foot boat would love to find but no luck so far. Have picture on my desk and was first boat he let me drive although he was right beside me all the time. A couple of years ago I let a 260 searay get by me new price what they sell for used now big mistake but won't cry over it just wasn't meant to be. If the Grady is more than I want to spend maybe a Robalo 245

I have to snicker. When I was about 4 years old, my dad let me "drive" his 18' wooden whatever converted to a shrimping boat in San Antonio Bay on the Texas coast at Seadrift. I would steer in the bay while he hauled in the shrimp nets. Man, we ate good back then. Fresh fried shrimp about every 3 or 4 days. All you could eat. We would fill 2 of those steel Coleman ice chests full and have about maybe 30-40 lbs of peeled shrimp.

76 tonight had an afternoon storm again today .42 inches. Some nice rains. TS Bill is supposed to be here tomorrow night thru Saturday morning. Local forecasters are saying 36+ hours of rain. I'm not going to complain about the rain but wow I hope their timing is off.

Not a lot accomplished today. Had a tunnel fan kick my but. Bearings went out and bent the prop. Only way to get rusty old bearings out is the cut shaft at prop. So new bearings and shaft. Which I had. Then trip to get prop. Get back and Allen screw strips out in the old pulley. So another trip to get it. Both places say "yea we have that". No they don't. First place did tell me that if second place didn't have it to call him back. He had a new fan that was sold but not delivered and he would rob it. Well he had to rob it. I buy 97% of my parts from this guy. So it wasn't the first time he had robbed parts for me. Usually takes about an hour for me to make this repair. Cut out old shaft and bearings, press old shaft out of prop and pulley, then assemble. Today I was over 5 hours. Almost 3 of that was windshield time though. Just kills my day.

Gathered in the sheep this morning before the sun got too powerful. Shepherds will be here after breakfast to see if any are ready to go to market next week, then all the other lambs will be wormed and checked over.

I am really thankful that the temperatures here don't get anywhere near what some of you are experiencing. Handling livestock in the daytime must be difficult when it is that hot. In fact just sitting around in the shade must be hard, wonder if that is why everyone is taking to boats, except those stuck cooped up in a chicken coop replacing bearings.

RNG : I could imagine that judge thinking you were winking at her all the time and you didn't tell her it was only the Bell's. :laughing:

Farmer I hate driving after parts and stuff too. Glad you got your tunnel fan going again.

I got some little chores done yesterday, more firewood put in, garden weeding and spraying, grocery run, bird feeder fill-up. Back to the rock pile this morning.

up early, broker picking me up at 7am to ride an hour to go see that boat. 108 heat index for today, yikes. And the boat is "on the hard" getting its bottom painted and hull waxed (all good) so no a/c in it.
I'll report back later after a long shower and an hour in a/c...

good trip to foot doctor. Says his xrays show "tons of arthritis in there", well, yeah, no surprise there, but he said absolutely to better arch support, get a pair of New Balance walking shoes, and yes they had some non dorky ones, and wear these temporary inserts until he can make a permanent one for me. So, likely "flat feet" plus plus. And a long medical term for the condition. I will put the new inserts in my docksiders and be properly attired for boating, and not limp. Proper attire of course being most important...
