Wish I could redirect some of rain to those in need, especially the fire areas. May not have made national news but quite a fire going on Oahu, up in Wahiawa and they don't expect to get any helpful rain. That area is quite inaccessible. For any of you that may have been stationed here years ago it is across from the old Recondo/Air Assault School. Local news shows military choppers dumping water.

"get lines"

At school we would "get lines" if we did something bad - having to write out the same sentence, over and over, on each line on sheets and sheets of paper.

I must always remember to shut the gate.
I must always remember to shut the gate.
I must always remember to shut the gate. ...

Did you not have that sort of thing at school ?

I once had a run in with a teacher for refusing to write 500 lines he gave to the entire class "I must not throw oranges against the wall". Although there was indeed an orange stain on the classroom wall, it wasn't me that did it and I felt aggrieved at the idea of a mass punishment for the acts of one unknown individual. I asked if someone in the class committed a murder, would he want to hang us all ? "No", he said "only because we have abolished hanging in this country", gave me a wink and let it go.

Ok now I know. I have seen it on TV but none of my teachers made us do it. We got "swats" with a large wooded paddle with holes in it. It would make a loud bang and burn burn burn and you could count the number of holes in the paddle on your bum. Once the all of us in the 4th grade that were on the baseball team got swats from the coach for being late to practice because another teacher kept us late for others talking. It was just not right, and since we still have the death penalty we don't dare make any suggestions like you did.:D

Thankfully I'm not guilty all the time and the dogs and I just share a knowing glance, but they don't tell on me nor I them. :)

:)

If only I could get to that level of understanding. Dog would happily sell me down the river for a tiny piece of chicken. He blinks his eyes and offers his best "I'm innocent" look whenever there is the faintest trace of blame in the air.

Eric
Wife has this belief that if one of the dogs did something wrong, all are guilty for allowing it. I sometimes think that is expanded to include me.

Quite familiar with lines as you described (from experience), just didn't know it had a name.

Got a lot done here today, plus gave a neighbor's kid a ride on my tractor. He was 6 years old, he really got a kick out of tit. His dad thanked me later. Planning on some cement work this next week at my wife's shop. Haven't done much of that in years.

56F. Mid-70's today with a nice breeze due later this morning.

Rocks are on today's menu. Hopefully I can rebuild the retaining wall enough today and Friday to keep the groundhogs from burrowing into the exposed dirt bank. :D

Coffee is done brewing. 58° with partly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 77° with mostly sunny skies. Another nice summer day. Need to get Stihl trimmer out with hedge trimmer to cut all the weeds under the many pine trees around the yard. My back will be complaining all day.
Eric, got the lines comment in original post.
Hope Roy is just sleeping in and toe is OK.
Good Morning All.

70 easing up to 81 as rain :) moves in. We need it.

Got some gly spraying done yesterday, trying to beat out the rain forecast and ready a couple of food plots for a new planting. I have a nasty invasive called Virginia Buttonweed that I think I may have gotten the better of with two spayings a month apart. But it has been dry, so with the rain may have more come back.

75 going up to a hot and sticky 94 today with rain coming in this afternoon and into tomorrow. Good, we need it, like Wingsprd says
Need to water a few fruit trees but other than that, have little planned for today. Which in itself is nice.

Rocks are on today's menu. Dave, are you serving granite today?

Not much granite will be used because it is rare to find granite rocks with the natural flat faces that are needed for good stacking.

Our "Feels like" will topple a hundred once more with the 9th straight day of rain. Grass is loving it but makes work hard as well as trying to mow and such. The horses are a filthy mess because they love to roll in the mud.

Dave - watch those fingers, you know what happened last time. Also do you have any idea where Wilton is? Have a Step Daughter living there. I have to admit I do not know your state at all, but she says it is over by Farmington.

Eric - Your dog comes from the same stock as mine, has no problem throwing me under the bus for a pizza bone.

Good morning! 77˚ before sunrise heading to 100˚ we are in the brutal days of summer. Forecast for the next 15 days is no rain and 102˚-103˚ every day. How long does it take to drive to Michigan? I think Ron owes me some cool weather tractor seat time.

Good morning, 59F heading to a high of 77F. No bike ride to work as I have to run some errands after, but I did kind of miss the quiet ride in this morning.

Don, it's 1600 miles. Not sure how fast your Subaru can go to get out of the heat. I remember your thread "I don't have to take it any more".

I drove through Wilton yesterday, it's not far at all. Wilton is one of the towns in our school district. It borders Farmington's east side. US Rt 2 used to run right through Wilton's business district before a bypass was built. It's a nice small town but like most small towns here it is struggling a bit with the loss of its commercial/industrial base over the years.

67F @ 4:30AM. Sunny to partly cloudy. High 96F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.

Dave, I wonder if the new Subaru wouldn't be better off on dino oil for the first 25K miles or so before switching to synthetic? I've heard that synthetic can delay break in, especially of the piston rings. Then again maybe that's no longer a problem with modern engines, but that Consumer Reports article about excessive oil use would indicate that it is.

Don/Eric, I don't remember ever getting lines, but I do remember seeing and hearing about those great big paddles hanging in the Vice Principal's office. He was a tall, gangly fellow with horrendous acne scars, one look would scare the pants off most of us. Some of them also had holes, and one was rumored to whistle as it descended (though I somehow managed to avoid finding out first hand). I often wonder if modern schools might not be better (and safer) places if Mr. Bieber and his ilk were still on staff today.

The compounding and polishing really did tame down the orange peel in the K-bike paint, and the few spots that got rubbed through are in places that don't show. After soaking overnight in Simple Green the carbon deposits on the heads came off with a bit of scrubbing with a brass brush, and now they're packed in bubble wrap ready for their trip back east. Gonna try to get the other for-sale bike put back together this morning before making a trip to town.

Might treat myself to lunch there, but I won't be taking in any movies. There's only one theater, and earlier in the week the staff there called the police when they noticed odd behavior from a patron carrying a large back pack. When officers searched the pack they found a loaded .45 caliber pistol and a box of ammo. The lame excuse recounted on the news was that the man was worried about losing the pistol to theft, so brought it with him to the theater, on two successive days. The cartridge found under his seat after the first visit for some reason triggered staff's initial suspicion, but it was the bag that won them over the second day. After searching the man's car and house and confiscating his pistol and computer, he was set free with a misdemeanor citation for carrying a loaded firearm. All of which could have been avoided with proper gun storage habits or a bit of training and a concealed carry permit. But since he's still on the loose, and until convicted is fully capable of purchasing another firearm, I think I'll stick to the DVD player for the foreseeable future.

Well it looks like I will have to take the heat a bit more with my anchor wife. Her part time work schedule is pretty full the next two weeks - working in a cool building, and the VFD would be hound me for the rest of the year if I left them during the set up for the fund raiser. Maybe next year - my goal is to spend an August in a cool climate far far away.

I hope Roy did not deep, deep, deep sleep in. . . .

70 this morning and headed to 80 today. .80 inches of rain yesterday. More expected today. Back to chicken coops. Didn't get much done yesterday as I walked in and had a feedline down. The bearing was out. That turned into a three + hour ordeal. should be able to finish today I hope. Then go to town and run errands.

Dave how's the finger? Guess it's better if you're back to stacking rocks. Or are you going to use the backhoe? If so can you open a soda can?

A feedline bearing would ruin your day. I suppose you have redundant feed and water systems in the same barn?

The finger is healing but slowly. If I ever get off TBN  I will be messing with some rocks too big to move by hand using the bucket, the backhoe and my 6' heavy pry bar. I fill in around those with rocks small enough to handle.

too funny Dave, you look down and say Geez it's that late already!
and time to get some work done.
But if it's raining, and you are retired, well....
