I've sent a lot of the kind comments his way. Maybe I should go read that thread and see what the fuss was. Though I swore off Unfriendly Politics over a year ago, my skin isn't thick enough. Dave's is...and he can sling it back with gusto, which apparently led to a lot of, shall we say, gusto-ness...or something.

I'm tuckered, planted ten trees, the soil was dry down there, so I watered 70 and then mowed ditches with the little mower in the dust. Fun.
But I got all the hard trimming done today so tomorrow I can just cruise with the rider. Some folks trim afterwards, some before, i usually trim before.

Farmer and others, I just got quoted $27.5k for a pole barn on a slab, no sides, no nothing, metal roof, 15x40, $45 a square foot.
I know as one goes larger the price drops, but I need a sanity check here, for a good quality super basic pole barn, just a metal roof, and a slab underneath,
is it just me or is this high? I told the builder my budget was fifteen grand and thought that would be easy...I guess not.
I think I'm trying to push a square peg through a round hole with this builder. I asked him to come back and tell me just what the slab and site work would cost.
That should be another comparison figure.

Good afternoon all. 69F this morning, still breezy, humidity coming up, variable cloudiness high of 87 i the forecast. Warming trend through Friday, Rain during the weekend, then below 90's early next week. Did one lap around the lake with the 10-speed with no problems, so it is available as backup. Picking up some dead oak for firewood, I see some splitting in my future soon.

Jerrybob is also MIA. Sounds like FP went through another purge. I gave up posting on that forum for lent in 2014 and have posted one time since. I still lurk every once in a while, but it is mostly name calling and sound bite regenerators. Not worth the effort.

Hope Dave can push through is issues and rejoin us in the more collegial environs.

The offending posts in that thread have been deleted by the moderators, including Dave's, so those of us that weren't reading as it blew up will never know the details of what transpired. Not sure I want to, really. Why drag that drek into your life? But I can understand why Dave is miffed, especially if, as he usually does, he presented well reasoned and truthful points in support of his arguments, and was given a time out because of it. Again, who needs that kind of aggravation?

We probably all know the drill. Police come with detective to take finger prints. Amount of damage in thousands. Just another day in paradise but at least nobody hurt so you take your lumps fix the damage and look for tomorrow to be a better day. Today weather wise another winner high of 84 nice breeze and low humidity. Once Cat man gets here and does his job look at prospective job then home for nice dinner. Then most likely look at drawings then bed time. Good Afternoon

Discussed earlier in this thread but apparently an ideological difference of opinion in a political thread got some feathers ruffled and feelings hurt. dave1949 was in the fray and he's been AOL ever since. That's all I know and I'm not even sure I have that part right.

Can't speak for the structure, but I had a 40x40 4 in slab, fiber reinforced, with a 40x20 apron, and a 8 ft sidewalk to the service door, $5500.

Drew. How do I break this easily. Um no way too. You builders wife wants a new deck and hot tub. And he's trying to cash flow it with your job alone. Ok maybe not but still. Let his boots hit the pavement.





That's a 16x36+a 16x15 shed. All numbers are rounded up.
$1,000 for concrete 16x36.
$1,000 for post and second floor joists and sheeting.
$800 for shed materials and truss materials.
$1200 for roof metal and double bubble insulation.

Those are all material only prices. Double them and you get a fair assessment of material and labor. So it should easily fit in your 15k budget. He11 here I could get a 30x40 installed for your budget.

Be sure to add the insulation even in a roof only design. It'll keep it from sweating and dripping on your equipment.

Dirt work was a 12 hour gig. But had to pack dirt 1/4 of a mile with a front end loader. Plus dozer had to dig a little and run back to building to level and pack. I could have had dirt work done in less than 4 hours had I not had to pack it so far. So add $1200 for dirt work. Labor and equipment.

Remember that the price is often dependent on what the seller thinks you will pay. Get a quote from a major firm like Mortons.
I've had builders give me sky high quotes because they thought I could afford it.

The best way to buy a building, in my view is to go to a farm show and buy the advertised special. Usually it's a 42 x 60 with two big doors and a walk door. I bought two buildings this way and they were way cheaper than what the earlier price was. Just don't make any changes. One building was a first class Morton and the other a simple equipment storage Walters. Both are excellent buildings and each one came out better than expected. There is a big farm show in Ohio next week and if I go I'll pick up a flier and post the prices here.
