Good Morning. 0835, overcast, 64F with 93% humidity. Forecast high of 69F with 20% chance of rain today and a low of 59F tonight. It was cool earlier when I was out in the garden picking the last of this year's corn. Not going to get much warmer, but I have a full day and a late night at work, so it doesn't matter for me.

Drew, that is an Alligator Snapping Turtle, known as a Logger-head around here. You do not want to try to pick him up. They will bite.

You guys have a good one,

Larro

yep, definitely not a box turtle. Probably was trying to keep your other turtles company.

Good morning all. 55F and sunny this morning, forecast for 78F light breezy. I think I forgot to mention about .1 inch rain this past Thursday. Fair was nice, lot of car/truck displays, but only one tractor dealer (john Deere). He had a "special" Deere 1025 4 ft cutter, rear blade and trailer to carry all for $19,995.00. Not sure if that was good deal or what. Almost all the food was deep dried, and did not sound good  :confused2: Make up yesterday's ride and putter on today's agenda

67F @ 8:45AM. Abundant sunshine. High 82F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.

No skidsteers on the property now, Eric, but I did get to drive one when the concrete contractor was putting in the driveway.

I used a new 30' x 30' tarp to cover up the firewood pallets earlier this week to keep them dry for a little rain shower. Now we're supposed to have a "wind event" tonight and into tomorrow, with gusts up to 50 MPH in the mountains. I know that the tarp will billow up if the wind gets strong enough, and I've seen dairy farmers use old tires to keep the plastic covers on their silage piles in place. So I'll slice up a couple of motorcycle tires I have laying around and toss them on top of the tarp to see if they help out.

Might also sweep out the chimney before it starts blowing. It's no where near cold enough to fire up with wood stove yet, but I am curious to see how much creosote accumulated. This will be the first time it's been cleaned.

I hope the east coasters have a chance to dry out soon, and that everyone enjoys their weekend!

stopped on by the country club marina to see how they were doing with the high tides and it was worth the trip, one could actually boat around the parking lot...
This sort of scene is mild compared to further South. I can't imagine what Charleston is going to look like when this is done. I believe that area got 15-18 inches of rain.
my little manual rain gauge proudly announced "full up"!

I was expecting a couple more easy going dry days until I realised the weather forecast on my phone had not been updating. When I rebooted, I found the rain is coming later today, although in very modest amounts compared to what some of you have seen. I better get going if I am to squeeze in everything that has to be done. Maybe one day I will learn not to always leave things until the last minute.

As Larro says, that does looks very neat Gary. Could be a good home for a really miniature tractor .

Is what we got done yesterday. Would of gotten the rafters in, but I bought lumber that ended up being 4" to short :confused3: Will pick up what I need on Monday and use the other boards on the bottom part. Hope to finish by the end of the month.

61 going to 77, what great weather, to bad it gets hot again next week.

Don, no one believes I am 60 or my wife is 54 and I attribute that to the way we eat and our lifestyle.

Waiting on coffee to finish brewing. 48° with light fog this morning. Heading to 63° with cloudy skies. Finished my TV antenna project. Wind has died down I can get tractor and chipper out. Clean up all the branches that have fallen in the last 3 days. Then some NASCAR if it stops raining long enough to get race in.
Gary, nice enclose job.
Drew, we get snapping turtles around here all the time. Find a stick. Place it in front of turtle. It will snap it and not let go. Drag it off to side out of the way. Do not expect to get stick back soon.
We like wild shrimp. Much better tasting than most shrimp you find in markets.
Good Morning All.

9th day of rain and 55 going to 63.

Made a Home Depot run yesterday to pick a few things for some small projects while it rained.

Dishwasher has been working great and no leaks! Thanks for all the feedback on your experiences.

Gary, great idea and job on your deck walls and doors.

Drew, be careful driving in the high water areas.

Up early, dogs woke me up, and I never got back to sleep. Wife is going to cook breakfast, our own eggs, and peppers from a neighbor's greenhouse. Thick bacon and raisin muffins + coffee. I like the thought of a veggie diet, but losing meat candy ( bacon ) would be hard!! :)

Good morning all.

I'm hopelessly behind on this thread ... hope everyone has been well.

51 degrees and cloudy here @ 07:00 ... heading up to 68 today, while staying mostly cloudy. Definitely a welcome change from the last couple of days - lows have been down in the mid-40's and the high yesterday was only 55 and it was rainy all day. On the plus side, our YTD rainfall is about 1/4" over normal ... so we've caught up.

Lit the first fire of the season the night of the 1st. What a joy it is to have dry, seasoned wood.

Have a somewhat distant relative by marriage coming over tomorrow to see if he can resurrect the gas furnace, which will allow us to skip the heating with wood thing.

This coming week is supposed to be nice (low to mid 70's and sunny) at least until Friday, then cooling down a little to more seasonable temps.

Will spend part of that time getting the firewood I have stockpiled split. Also need to repair some cracks on the mortar around the chimney tiles. And a whole ton of other stuff as always, a lot of it to get ready for winter.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable Sunday.

35 right now and foggy...a bit clammy in the house. 61 will be the high today.

I diid find a nice level spot to stow the backhoe, so that's off the tractor now. I'll have to pick up a tarp one day this week for covering it (over the winter). Main chore today, once it warms a bit, is to install all the 3PH links and such. Also have to take my step daughter's futon down stairs (been in the garage for about a month). After those are done...just piddle about, I guess.

I found this on YouTube a day or so back...pretty cool short film

55 this morning and headed to 76 today. Rain has moved out so looks to be a dry day.

Spent my time yesterday in chicken coops so my plans didn't happen. Plan today is to work on building I think dad is coming to help also.

Drew. The snapping turtles that make it to the yard die. Sorry, but with a 2 year old running around I'm not taking any chances. I'll kill 2-3 a year it seems. Hope you start drying out soon. How does the mooring system work at the country club? Seems like a lot of people would be required to keep those boats tied during a flood.

Kev nice start.

Dawn 34F touch light frost in places high low 60''s.

Deerfield Fair has something for everyone.

Today putter, maybe watch little NASCAR,football take country ride.

Enjoy the day all.

69F @ 7:30AM. Plentiful sunshine. High 89F. Winds NNE at 5 to 10 mph. The wind did blow for most of the night, but no rain fell. The tarp over the wood pile survived, but none of the tires remained atop it. This morning I found a dozen or so bottles strewn over the parking area, the wind having knocked over the recycle barrel. No sign of the lid, so later I'll have to wander around looking for it. Had several strong gusts, the highest at 37 MPH around 9PM, so as usual the "event" wasn't as bad as predicted. That's more than OK with me.

Nice work Gary & Kev.

Welcome back, RS. Good luck with the furnace.

Well I did get the chimney swept yesterday, but hardly any creosote was to be found. But I'll be using the money saved in doing it myself to replace the baffle boards and fiberglass blanket at the top of the stove, which I should have removed before I started sweeping. Something to remember for next year.

Used a demolition saw to cut the tires around the circumference, but as mentioned above they didn't stay in place. Thinking back, those dairy farmers tied their tires together into a mesh, so it looks like I'll be doing the same.

Well here it is Monday again. Hope everyone gets off to a good start!
