45 and now cleared off, going to 57.

Haircut today, and then son brings his dog for us to dog-sit while he and girlfriend go to UVA football game and birthday celebration this weekend.

Worked on getting a refund from my wife's doctor office yesterday...they double charged our HSA account after I paid the bill online using the HSA debit card. They said they only show one payment...of course I'm staring at my HSA activity that shows 2 identical charges on the dame day from them. I contact the bank and they say I must get it back from the doctor...call doctor back and they had closed at 3:30pm. So back at it again this morning.

Then see what I can get done outside, depending on how soggy the ground is.

TGIF Everyone, 63 here at 6:15 going to a Sunny High of 77. Rained pretty much all day yesterday, and cancelled the Vet because of it. Will hook up next week with her. Have to go to Lowes this morning and pick up supplies, then off to work. Replace a ceiling fan, rebuild a toilet, and fix a faucet. Each at a different location. Then come home and put the forks on the tractor and move things around the yard.

Garage was looking too clean.

Worked overnight and got about 75% of the styro cut/roughly shaped/stacked. Once I get the remaining 25% done, then the really hard part begins: actually making it look somewhat like something realistic ... :D

Judging from how the rough cutting has gone, it will probably be the messiest part as well.

Time for a nap.

My wife brought me a great cup of coffee. She put some chocolate in it. :)

Deciding on what to do today. It is supposed to be a really nice day. Me and a buddy are going to travel to Pearland Texas to watch our HS football team play its 2nd playoff game.

I might go get our minivan inspected and new state tags are due. Good way to blow about $80 bux.

rs, I hate buttloads of mail too. Somehow, we don't get near as much as we used to. Repurposed slate might kill 2 birds with one stone.

First time at getting my name on a patent application happened this week. Fingers crossed. No money my way. Company owns everything.

Need to cut some more firewood, but it is down in our "bottomland" where it is too muddy to get to without making huge tractor ruts. Can anyone enlighten me on firewood? I have been burning post oaks that have died from drought and insects (carpenter ants) over the last few years. When I go to cut these up, I usually have to cut and split it and let it set hoping the ants get out of it. I have put a log on a burning fire that still had a nest of ants in it. Glad they didn't come out whilst near my fireplace waiting for their turn to burn...I have to admit it was kind of neat watching them all scrambling in vain for a cooler spot in the fire. Another thing about cutting the volunteer wood, the bark is usually coming off or somewhat detached and there is a host of fungi, scorpions, small centipedes, pill bugs, and dormant wasps hiding out in it. Not sure this is the best thing to burn or not...

I can bog down our 65 pto hp tractor with a 6' shredder here on our place. That's over 10hp/foot of blade. I mow at up to 8mph, or I might say I scalp at a good pace. The bahia grass is coming back. I need to get some more Cimarron to spray it next spring.

Even though we've been getting good rains and everything is muddy, we are still having grass fires since the county commishes have lifted the burn ban. My place looks really green but it is deceiving. There is a thick layer of the previously cut dead grass underneath the green. I mowed it back in the drought to reduce the chance of grassfire and it hasn't decomposed enough yet.

Good Morning! 57F @ 5:30AM. Plentiful sunshine. High 71F. Winds N at 10 to 15 mph.

Step Dad's house is getting a new roof this week. I made the arrangements (I'm in California, the house is in Ohio), reminded him the night before that the crew would be showing up the next day, and checked with him first thing the next morning just to be sure. Then a couple hours later I get a call from the contractor that I needed to call Step Dad. He want's to know who all these people are and what they're doing to his roof. He was diagnosed with dementia last year, but it wasn't clear just how far it had progressed. During that second call yesterday he asked me three times who I was, and repeatedly who the roof people were. Same thing when I talked to him again this morning, and I'll call again in a few minutes to make sure there's no more confusion. Gentlemen, when they say growing old isn't for the faint of heart, they weren't kidding. Enjoy your health while it lasts.

Yesterday's errands took longer than expected, so I'll be getting to the engine work today instead.

TGIF!

Good afternoon 77˚ clear. We are warmer than Hawaii this afternoon but at 49˚ this morning we were colder than Vermont. Tomorrow brings big change - dropping to the 30s and a 40mph wind, that means brush fires with the burn ban lifted.

Well, the van initially did not pass inspection. Water/moisture condensed in the headlights. So that ended up being my day. remove said headlights, blow with hair dryer on low, put a bead of clear silicone around the edge lip and reinstall. Wa-lah. Passed inspection. Then went and got this year's license tag for the window. A tad over $77 for inspection and tag.

Had a nice lunch with my wife at the local pizzeria.

Headed to HS. football playoff game 2 hours away.

Have a great evening guys.

Hey, welcome Retired Guy. Please keep all white stuff up there, where it belongs.
31 Sunday night here, good thing, will kill off the mosquitoes.

Didn't get a whole lot accomplished today. Then this afternoon I get a call from Wells Fargo fraud dept asking me if I bought lunch today in Georgia. No ma'am. How about tank of gas at? No ma'am, this is bogus, I haven't left Washington NC. How about Amazon last night? Yup.
there goes that card into the grinder. Now I'm going to look over my charges and see where I handed the card to anyone where it left my sight. But the lady told me it was just as possible they had a card reader at the gas station working illegally. No cost to me, just pita. I pay all my utilities on that card because I get one percent back.
Now I have a lot of paperwork to do.

cleaned up the decorating mess I had made so far, and tomorrow I hope to get some local help to rake a ton of pine straw that came down in the last rain.
I wish I could make it materialize in Larro's pine straw patch.

There's no such thing as a free lunch, nor a free phone upgrade from Verizon. Last week I told this story.....

Been a frustrating day.

Cell phone has not been charging the last 2 days, this morning while "working" on it, the pins inside the USB connector bent, so now there's no way it is going to charge.
Went in to Costco to get new front tires on my honda (297K miles), was a 2.5 hr wait they said, which turned out to be over 3 hrs. While there, went to the phone kiosk. They said, no problem, you can get a "free" upgrade, just pay the activation fee and you can keep your plan, just have to sign 2 yr contract. I said as long as I can keep my current plan (which is one of the old UNLIMITED data plans) I'll buy the phone. I ended up choosing the Samsung S6, so it was $100 more. So I get the slip, and have to go pay at the regular register. They are all backed up with people with overflowing carts full of stuff, asked the guy maning the self checkouts could do it, but he wouldn't/couldn't, so back in line behind even more people. Get it paid, have to go to pickup to get the phone. Had to wait for someone to come work the pickup desk. So I finally get the phone, and he walks the phone back to the verizon kiosk for it to be activated. Guess they don't trust us to walk it over, because he had to carry it over. So the lady at the kiosk starts to activate my service, then says uh oh. I can't keep my existing plan with the new phone. So I said, no deal. She now has to walk the phone back to the pickup desk, and I get refunded my money. I asked if I could just outright pay the full price for the phone and she said no.

Some time around then, my son came home from school, and mentioned it was friday the 13th.

Now I understand.

Then the next day went to a Verizon store and decided to go ahead and do the free phone upgrade on a new plan:

Did some more looking around on verizon this afternoon, and found out that starting next month verizon is going to increase the cost of unlimited plans $20/month. Also looked at my past phone bills, and decided I really didn't use that much data on the phone.

So tonight went to a verizon store, and decided to go ahead and get a phone upgrade, and switched to one of the shareable data plans, put my new LG 4G phone and MIFI on the new plan, and will also move my son's phone to it. In all I will be paying less for more data than what I was using on my unlimited. Also was able to get a 20% discount thru my work. Then went to Moe's and got a really good burrito.

Now if the wind would just calm down, my flag got shreaded by the wind today, it's caught on the top of the pole, and the rope is broken. will have to take the pole down to put a new rope on.

Today I get a summary of the transaction in the mail, and there is a $24.99 device charge for 24 months, and they did not add my son's phone to the shareable plan. When I got the phone, I was told it was a free upgrade, just had to pay them $150 that night because it was a newer model.

They never told me I was paying for the phone in 24 convenient payments, and there was nothing "free" about any of the deal, because what they charged me for was an overpriced phone case and protection screen and car charger.

I was livid on the phone with customer support, but in the end my only choice is to return the phone or keep it. My old phone was busted, so I needed the phone, just don't like being lied to. It's really the guy in the verizon store that lied to me. He told me all I had to pay was the $150 that night. He never said anything about financing $600 over 2 years. On the bill of sale it has the charge of $599 for the phone and then a $599 credit.

So maybe it's just fridays...........

Good evening all. 50F this morning, Hey I have been warmer than Don for several mornings now. Made it to 72F sunny and breezy, must getting ready for tomorrow's 20+ head winds. Checked out bike and gear for tomorrow's ride. Made a furniture pick up for a friend, and got the new capacitors soldered in on the power supply. Nothing went boom :cool2: and got the correct tones so after the ride will swap out TVs. Hope the new seat is comfy :crossfingers:
