Driving to Mooresville, NC today after stops for fuel, propane, and truck wash.

Looks like you're taking the long way 'round, and that snow was a good reminder of why winters in Texas are worth the drive. Hope you enjoy the trip, and all the stops along the way!

Not great start to the day. Helped my wife today at her shop. A large dog grabbed my hand. Ended up in ER. No stiches, but lots of trauma. My hand is swollen up good, nothing broken, but it is surprising how much that hurts. I was out of the ER by 11. Short day but not for good reasons. Gonna sit around for today. Can't do much one handed....

Have a good one!

34F and partly cloudy @ 12:00 ... overnight low last night was 19.4F @ 06:08

A couple of days I pulled out the washer to see what was going to be involved in getting to that switch for the lid. Yesterday The Woman announced that I had fixed it, simply by looking at it. There's a bit of a joke there, as an ex-business partner (who didn't care much for computers and all things digital) used to comment that whatever piece of equipment he was having trouble with seemed to magically fix itself in my presence ...

On a related note, the right front window in The Woman's car now seems to be working. (I probably punched the wrong switch when I tried to roll it up before ;))

Got the aquarium stand shimmed and leveled yesterday ... that took a little longer than I thought, but it seems stable. Also got the 10g filled up and running, with the air pump and heater connected up. Water is pretty cloudy, that could take a while clear up. Cupcake is currently @ the pet store, tasked with picking up a couple of Zebra Danios to help start cycling the 10 g aquarium.

Got the two pieces of piping for the filter plates in the 55g finished and glued up. They will connect to the supply line via a tee using a friction fit, and I filed the ends of the two pipes down last night so they would slip in the tee all the way easily. Glued up the dogleg offset on that, so the supply pipe will miss the cross-brace on the top plastic trim piece. All that's really left at this point on the plumbing is to cut the supply pipe to length and glue it together. Can't really do that until I get the plastic trim piece on though.

Speaking of the plastic trim piece I found a good tip yesterday on the internet about getting it on: fill bathtub with hot water and soak it to soften it up a little. The plastic trim is very hard/stiff ... mebbe styrene or something so I'm not real sure how well that will work. Going to crank up the hot water heater here in a bit once I've had my coffee and we'll see.

Spent several hours going over the top and back of the 55g tank with a single-edge razor blade, cleaning off the old silicone and mineral deposits. I have a product that will dissolve cured silicone rubber that I need dig up to get the last traces of it off. Also found an old can of Rust-Oleum Wood Preservative paint, in sem-gloss black that I'm going to use to paint the back (outside) of the 55g ... it's supposed to water-proof/resistant. Contains Teflon which I'm not all that keen about, but it's on the outside so hopefully that won't be an issue.

Got zero done on the backdrop ... too cold out in the garage. Might be able to get back to that tonight.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable and productive day.

Good afternoon all. 36F this morning, clear light breeze. high forecast for 61F at 62F now :). Choir practice and bike ride done, trip prep and nap fill out the rest of TMA. Leaving Wednesday for STL, visiting family and friends, and a few chores for Mom while there. Internet access will be problematic while in STL, don't think Mom has any. Also have a good shot for snow Monday according to forecast

A couple of days I pulled out the washer to see what was going to be involved in getting to that switch for the lid. Yesterday The Woman announced that I had fixed it, simply by looking at it.

Likely the jostling involved with moving the washer jolted the switch back into position where it would work again. But now that your're not looking at it, it's just as likely to bump itself back to where it doesn't work again, with associated loss in optical repair prowess. Download the repair manual for the infernal machine and browse through it in preparation for an almost inevitable showdown where you're sure to put that wayward switch in its place permanently, or face the ignonominable loss of you're laying on of hands ability to effect a mechanical miracle.

LOL ... good one RNG

I actually think I found a manual for it today ... in one of the drawers in the kitchen ... in a 4" pile of manuals, paperwork, recipes, and cards for plants/shrubs we've bought.

IOW: a Cupcake rathole ...

I know I found the receipt for it for sure (Best Buy, 2006)

When I received the inevitable interrogation as to what did I think I was doing ? ... (cleaning out the drawer, obviously ...) I explained that I planned to take all the paperwork and place them in manila folders, and then into appropriate filing cabinet drawers, organized accordingly to the type of information be filed ...

The reply that I got was "Well, you realize that that (essentially stuffing stuff - willy-nilly - into any drawer or open space that can be found) has been a workable system ..."

Several possible replies that immediately came to mind were:

... for who ?

Oh, yeah, sure ... provided you don't mind spending 15 minutes (or more) going thru (at least) one 4" pile of crap to find whatever it is you're looking for ...

SMH ...

Heading to Hartford CT in a couple hours for some training.

30 this morning high of 52 later today at least not as cold as yesterday

Drinking first cup of coffee. 35° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 56° with lots of sun. All setup in a field next to my sons house in Moorseville, NC. Looks like nice weather for next few days. Going to NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte today. Maybe tour a couple of car builder garages when we get back.
txdon, chilly weather and some sun is better than snow. Even if sun is shinning. I will bet those coyotes new Whipper was there.
RNG, oldest son lives in NC. Going to spend Thanksgiving with him. This adds a little over 400 miles to trip. Better than a round trip to his place from our home of 1200 miles.
RS, properly filing anything takes as much time as finding it when needed if not filed away properly. Don't ask how I know. :confused3:
Good Morning All.

Ow, hope it improves now you are through the first night. If you hadn't told us you had been bitten, we would never have guessed - your one handed typing is great!

Good morning. I've had a touch of man flu these last few days and haven't felt like doing much. I was told a long time ago that looking after livestock keeps you going when you are feeling rough and the brief excursions outside to fill up the hay racks have certainly been clearing my head at times when I would otherwise have stayed indoors. I'm over the worst now and ready for some light work again (but please don't tell my wife that for a couple more days yet, or she will start adding to the list again ;)).

26 going to 52 and sunny.

300U, hope that hand is felling better.

Eric, "man flu" as apposed to maybe sheep flu? :)

37 feels like 33 no frost I can see but still dark. High going to 68 today. Have to go into town for a toilet rebuild, then home to meet the Vet. That might get me a little time on the tractor to clean out the new pasture from left over lumber and scaffold of the Run-in that the Horses don't use anyway. Cows like it.

RS, don't go there... trust me. Pick your battles and that one isn't worth it. I guarantee every home in America has one of those drawers.

Don, Whipper knew they were there, was just watching to make sure you were safe from them... yeah, right. There is some talk about putting a bounty on coyotes here. We have lost a couple of kids (the goat kind) to them over the years. I keep my "Golden Boy" by the back door to scare them and other varmints off.

Ron, I may be going to NC over Thanksgiving weekend. Have a friend up there for the Dixie Horse auction, and if they see a good draft that fits my wants they are going to call... have trailer will travel.

300, Why did the dog bite you? Where was the owner?

Eric, Hope you get feeling better soon. I guess I am lucky, my wife nags me to stay off my foot to let it heal, but there is just to much to do.

Speaking of Horses, I got a letter yesterday asking if I wanted to come back up to Ohio next summer to help teach driving school.

Good Morning. 0640, clear, 35F with 96% humidity. Forecast high of 64F with no chance of rain today, and a low of 47F tonight. There is a heavier frost this morning. I'm guessing all the peppers that didn't make the move into the greenhouse will have to be picked and used. Margie made a big batch of salsa a couple days ago, but looks like another batch may be in the works.

300uguy, hope that hand heals fast.

Eric, do they have a shot for that man-flu? Maybe something like this.

You guys have a good one,

hard frost here ,bye bye bugs...
28 going to 55 today, sunny day, no precip in forecast for a solid week.
Irv, hope your hand is better. Man's best friend...not that day.
Have a bunch of errands to do today, then pack to go to my brother's in VA tomorrow.
Where are all you guys coming to NC? Probably far West of me.
Ron, I'm waving wherever you are.

Hey, what about David/Mossflower's wedding? isn't that soon?

Jeff Bezos' rocket lands safely after space flight - Nov. 24, 2015

hot off the press and very cool.
and Don, if you had looked West, you might have seen it.
Well, I approve of the way my Amazon profits are going.
Personally I see space flight as the key to man's future existence.
Not sure we aren't going to ruin what we have here.
So we'd better have a vacation home...maybe one with twin moons.

32 this morning and headed to 58 today.

Got to go to most places yesterday. But didn't make it to look at guns. Well the dryer quit yesterday. So must go pick up new one today. Lowes couldn't deliver it till tomorrow and our son gets tubes tomorrow, so that was a no go. Then run to bank and pickup some parts for chicken coops. Wood stoves sure have gotten expensive. Got a price yesterday and it was almost 3k and I have the chimney pipe already. May go see TSC this weekend. Also now looking at gas stoves.

Drew don't know what ammunition I'll use. I'm wanting something to carry here on the farm. A snake gun that doubles as a varmint and predictor gun. Something quick to grab and not a long gun. I have those. Looking at stainless steel also.
