Looked at honda 700, 4 seater and 2 seater. Didnt drive, they were closing soon and short staffed. They said visit during the week and drive one.
Eating lunch at an old diner that has been in this location since 1960, first opened downtown in 1910. Been a few yrs since we've been here.

Happy belated anniversary Ron and Mrs Ron

RNG sounds like you are making good progress on the van, I would have run out of steam before now.

Be careful west coaster, that weather sound bad.

Kyle, looked into bypassing security????? Stepson had trouble with his key in '01 S-10, only needed to solder one resitor in line and no more security issues

Good Morning! 59F @ 8:45AM. Cloudy and windy with periods of rain this afternoon. High 64F. Winds S at 25 to 35 mph. Chance of rain 100%. Rainfall near a half an inch. Winds could occasionally gust over 50 mph.

The rain stopped yesterday afternoon and I took a little walk around the property looking for erosion in the mud but found very little. All the dust settled real nice, but is very soft in some spots and will likely stay that way until it dries out later in the week. The rain did a great job rinsing the dust off all the wood and rocks on the ground, and it'll be easy to spot them for pickup now. Heard from my old firewood buddy and he's interested in picking up some of the manzanita, likely toward the end of the week. I just want to get the fuel off the ground down below the house and get the area cleaned up so it can be disced and planted.

This series of storms have really been hammering you guys up in Washington and Oregon! Lots of rain and even tornados? So far here it's just been heavy sustained wind, saw one gust of 45MPH yesterday and there are supposed to be more on the way. Lost two oaks last year to wind, snapped off about six feet above the ground. One's in the wood pile now, the other will need winched up from below the driveway.

Hope that dash comes off easily for you, Kyle. The one on the van was full of hidden screws, and I'd never have found them all without a step-by-step off the Internet.

Nice job on the Cub, Drew! Probably just a small adjustment on the carb for that backfire.

Had an enjoyable but not productive day yesterday. Last week I read an article about late '60s rock music and ended up ordering a bunch of CDs from bands I'd never heard, and they showed up in a big batch Thursday. So I spent some time ripping them to the computer and listening, and ended up really happy to discover some more old music from groups I never knew about. Aphroditie's Child, The 13th Floor Elevators, Bubble Puppy, as well as some old favorites I'd just heard on the radio like Country Joe and the Fish, Cream, Grateful Dead etc. One, from Pretty Things called SF Sorrow, was one of the first rock operas and supposedly inspired The Who's Tommy and others. I didn't notice it when I ordered, but it also came with a DVD of the group, reunited recently to play the whole album in the Abbey Road studios. It was a great intro to their music, and I can only imagine what these guys looked like back in the day (they're all old geezers like me now).

But the real highlight of the day was finally breaking out the Hotpot that Don had recommended several months ago. I love pot roast, and had one that had been in the freezer too long, and with the cool rainy weather it was a perfect time to eat it. But I got busy in the garage and forgot that the roast was thawing out on the counter, and didn't notice it until four o'clock or so. Oh no, gonna be a late dinner, right? Not with the Hotpot pressure cooker. It also has a setting for searing the meat, which worked great, then it used the same pot to pressure cook the roast (45 minutes), then another ten minutes to pressure cook the potatoes. Then all that was left to do was pull the meat and potatoes out of the pot, stir in a little wine and flour, and there was a nice gravy. Clean up was a breeze, as the gravy had softened anything that was sticking to the pot, and there was just the one pot to wash. There was nothing but steam inside the pressure cooker itself, so that just got a wipe from a paper towel. Thanks Don!

yes and thanks, I saw that after I had ordered the stuff from amazon...if this stuff doesn't work, I'll have to kick myself for not going the cheap route.

Y'all batten the hatches out there on the west coast.

You are welcome. We use our Instant Pot Electric Pressure Cooker, Smart Cooker, Multi Cooker, 快煲电压力锅 almost every day. We have a second one and sometimes both are going. Pressure cook for 10 minutes and just about everything we put in it is done. I especially like the no stirring, no watching method of cooking, it gives me more time on TBN.

Was 61°F this morning and cloudy, going up to 79° today, Sun is out now and 75°. Supposed to be near 90° by Monday. The roller coaster continues.

Noticed about an hour ago that we have no hot water today. Greaaaaaat. :muttering: Can't get anyone out here until Monday (I am NOT a plumber). Cold showers until then. On the bright side, it's only been here for a little over 4 years, and it has a 6-year warranty.

We are set for a wet day today, so it looks like I will be having the pleasure of working (unpaid) for the government today.

I think most of you will be familiar with the idea of a sales tax on the final sale of goods to a consumer. That happens in Europe too, however we also have to account for tax on just about everything, down to the last nut and bolt, of items traded between businesses too - a "Value added Tax" (VAT). Gathering information on such things comes naturally to accountants, but for those of us who are self employed it is an additional job to add to the list and one that must be done every 3 months without fail. Forgetting to file a VAT return has much worse consequences than Ron forgetting to buy a card. Apart from a fine, it would risk raising the wrath of a VAT inspector  - the most fearsome creatures still roaming wild in the UK.

B7510HSD, awesome storm picture :) Pleased it only ended with a toppled chair, instead of a ripped off roof.

Buppies what are you doing up this early also? I went to bed early, bone tired, and the little internal alarm clock went off too early. My helper did not show yesterday so I fixed most of the driveway myself. Thought of you while I was out there putting down driveway patch.

Today I wash the truck, change out the muffler on the Massey, after giving it a coat of high temp barbecue paint, and load up the golf cart to take to the dealer tomorrow. Having a conversion kit added to my Club Car golf cart to add a second row of seats, the rear ones fold down for a utility platform. Not too expensive and sure cheaper than getting another golf cart.

Ethiopian coffee this morning. Local Food Lion has a brand of single country coffees reasonably priced at 8 dollars a pound. Like my wine, I don't go over ten bucks too often...

here's a question for our resident engineers. I have one paint, flat black, good for 1200 degrees. I have another can of gloss black, good for 1000 degrees. The gloss black would of course look nicer, but how hot does a tractor header pipe and muffler get? Am I ok with 1000 degrees? Seems pretty hot....

Interesting question, Drew. According to this Wikipedia page on the temperatures at which various metals start to glow, your gloss black should be OK for the muffler, unless, of course, the muffler normally reaches "black red", or the lowest level of glow normally associated with steel. At that temperature it would also be subjected to accelerated oxidation, and I would hope that the manufacturer wouldn't have designed it that way. Practically, the only way to be sure is to mount the muffler, run the tractor hard at night, and look for the even the slightest glimmer of glow. Might get a good reading with an IR temperature probe, depending on the quality of the probe and the emissivity of the muffler. Or you could just paint it with the color of your choice and see how it does, and repaint it if the paint burns off. That's what I'd do...

now we are sure on the same page. Going with glossy, see how it does. My gas grill temp gauge gets up around 600 at full blast; can't imagine the exhaust from this understressed diesel getting that hot. Likely to burn off around manifold connection. Three bolts holding it in, I PB Blasted them two days ago, letting them soak, taking them off today. No instructions whatsover. Going to try to go onto Agco parts and see if they have an exploded diagram somewhere. There is a heat shield that I'm not sure is meant to keep the heat off the tractor (inside) or off people(outside).

muffler is very nicely made, dull black primer of some kind, with an industrial quality metal plaque on it telling the manufacturer's name in India. I cleaned it pretty carefully with denatured alchohol and taped that impressively built riveted name tag. I figure if they take that much time putting a nice name plate on, they must be proud of their company.

AGCO Parts Books

that was easy, it's on the outside (need to click on horizontal exhaust; can't link to exact page)

should I be putting any anti-rust something on those pipe connections when I push them together?
sure hope they gave me a new gasket in the kit; didn't open the bag yet.

now this is odd; Eric, why do they call a gasket a joint? Is that a British term?
If I ask my parts guy if he has a joint in there I'm sure going to get some funny looks....:D

Off to bed I go, just finished the good ol' night shift. Hope everyone has a nice Sunday.

Drew you might find my info off some but if I remember on the Cummings 5.9 diesel with pyrometer 900 degrees is normal for exhaust over 1200 turbo starts to melt. I had one on my 2001 and never saw anything higher than 1000 degrees. Fell asleep in my chair but could not go back to sleep

36 right now...should see about 70 later today.

Got the mowing done yesterday. Might be the last one, but I'm guessing one or two more before it's done. Also reorganized the garage and put the RFM in there. I probably should have rigged the snow blower back on the tractor yesterday, while I had it running...but I didn't.
I also swapped out the Ruger 10/22 stock (plastic camo) with a Hogue Overmold. That only took a few minutes, but when I pulled the action out of the camo stock, a pin (.25 diam by about 1.25 long) fell out to. I couldn't find any place it should have gone and there wasn't anything like it shown in the illustrated part breakdown. I have no idea why it was in there. The rifle seems to operate OK, but I didn't have time to shoot it. My guess, at this point, is the pin isn't part of the rifle and got left in there during assembly at Ruger. Any luck, I'll get some rounds through the rifle later today. If it functions OK, I'll just toss the pin or put it in my junk drawer...it's a black oxidized hardened pin...might be useful for something.
