Good morning! A warm 76˚ this morning. heading to the 90s. Tomorrow morning the front blows in and we will go back into the glorious 60s.

My new frog pond under construction has dried so I'll be able to continue today. There is a 50% chance of rain tomorrow.

Edit: What! Is the time above my avatar right, 4:26 A. M., I guess I need to put on m glasses when I look at the clock I got another two hours before I get up for the day, good night z z z z .

Good morning all. 67 going to 84 and sunny. Finished putting the band saw together yesterday and started looking at the wiring holes under the raised patio. Cleaned out the basement end with a short piece of pipe and hit the conduit. Only about 1 1/2" off two ways so. Need to dig out about 2" of dirt for the pipe to get through so am heading to lowes for a piece of 1 1/2 plastic pipe. Will cut the first foot or so on half and make a long skinny shovel and will just scoop it out. Electrician coming to fix AC circuit in transfer switch. Works well on regular power but won't run on the generator.

David, :cool2:

Have a great day Ed

DavidM, Congrats on new job.
Thomas, must be leaf blowing season.
Txdon, time to get up.
Hawkeye, did you save the chips for mulch?
Drew, good luck with the car. When I posted my thoughts on a carport for. I listed 14 or 16' wide because I wanted to be able to open slides. But 12" is OK. I now know if I get one it will be the wider width.
PJS, 80ー is to warm to cut lawn.
Roy, have a safe trip.
Good Morning All.

63 going to 86...local weather man says may break record high.

Son coming back today, so he will help me pick up a load of lumber to build an extension on my tractor shed. It's a simple old goat barn I built in the late 80s to milk goats, then later to keep a couple of horses...later became the place where my tractor sleeps. Surprised it's still standing. Hope is to get my implements under roof rather than tarps.

We had a tree getting big next to the shop and were getting concerned about damage to the shop and another small outbuilding during winter storms. My Dad parks his travel trailer at our house (plenty of room) in the driveway during the season and in the shop for off season. He wanted to save me from hurting myself so he contacted and paid for a company to come in and remove the tree... very simple job for them that would have been lots of work and risk for me. The chipper they had took 8-10" diameter pieces and just ate them. There was perhaps a dozen or so decent size limbs/branches and that chipped just made chips. They even ground the stump 6-8 below ground level. Really changed the look there..

Raining off and on, 50 today.

My guess for a tree removal is about $750 if you live in a city, depending on the total size of the tree...Don, How much did you have to pay?

Buckeye, I can't seem to find your 4x4 thread. Have you tried the Yamahas? I know they are some of the most dependable out there.

My Michelin Defenders have 50 something thousand miles and the tire guy told me they are near the end of their life. He said the 90,000 mile warranty seems to be a gig where Michelin gives you some refund money towards a new set of their tires.

64°F here this morning, going up to 72°, with rain all day and into tomorrow. We could use some rain. It's been missing us lately.

I didn't want the rear of the carport closed off so that I could drive a tractor through, but clearly there needs to be some bracing, at least at the top. Would be better of course to make a big X back there but that creates issues for storage. Headed off in an hour to talk to the seller dealer about just this. He's a good guy, will make it right, and they have to come back for the ridge vent anyway.

The rattle in my car has now been diagnosed as a bad steering rack. Turning the wheel back and forth hard does make a clunk that should not be there. All the tie rods, etc are tight as can be. So....another 900 dollars into the British economy...actually that's installed, which I thought was pretty reasonable, considering what other things cost on this car. Maybe I'll get it back later this week. Thank goodness for reliable trucks...

time to go hook up the utility trailer and get my golf cart back. Then might unbox the DR shipping box and see what's involved in putting the leaf vac together. The hose adapter to the mower deck has to be custom cut for each install. So I have a little assembly required but should not be hard.

71 this morning and headed to 86 today. Pop up showers and thunderstorms today then rain all day tomorrow.

Need to wash the windrower and get the seed sower on the tractor. Will see how much I get done. Before rain hits.

Kyle the very large tree removal was $550 and I grappled the limbs away as they cut them down, no stump removal, my wife likes a big ugly 12' stump in the yard for woodpeckers.

Kyle, Michelin will prorate your new set of tires, my second set of 90K Defenders were about half price, I think around $85ea and I had around 40K miles. I bought both sets of Defenders from Discount Tire in Bastrop. You might want to read the warranty - there are several exclusions. I think it has to be in a under set number of years and you had to have them rotated -meaning- the tires should show equal wear, and no unusual wear due to being out of line or other problems with the vehicle. Most people forget they have the warranty or sell their vehicle. The warranty is only good for the original purchaser. They also have to have only a minimum of tread left and most people change their tires before they get that low because of hydroplaning.

I don't need any tires and I'm glad for what they cost, unless you buy Chinese stuff that I don't trust.
Drew, I hope that's the fix and that's all for a while.
Pretty day, mid 80's, but by the weekend we're looking at 50's/30's.

golf cart is home, I can sense some electric happiness....

good news on new carport. The builder will be here tomorrow with the ridge cap, and....a gable end for the rear, and they said they would do it all for 100 bucks. Clearly the price was dropped due their dropping the ball on the ridge cap, but this should greatly stiffen the building due to a full width bar. If not, then plan B but I was told this would do the job.

69°F and 1.1 inches rain last 24 hours.

Drew, nice looking structure, but not sure it looks stable enough for a hurricane

Be safe
Have a great day

Drew, I still would like to see some diagonal bracing in the walls that do not have complete coverage. Remember Eddie Walker's house that shifted when he was building it before the wall covering.

Good afternoon all. 72F and cloudy with some wind, not as much as the last few days. Forecast for 86F today, and much more cloudiness than the last few days. Will have both van and truck in garage tonight as over night chance of hail. Went to go help a friend move a welded frame this morning but they had already moved it by the time I got there. Visiting still took an hour then home to clean up kitchen and lunch. Nap time next and then rearrange garage so both vehicles can be in at the same time!

glad you enjoyed it. Back not so hot, but I'm totally to blame...going to try to go horizontal this afternoon; hard to do when it's so nice out.

sodamo; [I said:

on that I think we all agree...
I'll give it the wiggle/wobble test tomorrow after the end bracing is put on.
If it still moves I'll just sink some pressure treated 6x6's into concrete at the corners.

sure does look spindly doesn't it? Luckily that area is pretty wind protected.

Good Morning! 67F @ 10:45AM. Sunny. High 78F. Winds NW at 5 to 10 mph.

Good news that the dealer is willing to correct the problem, Drew. Just curious though: Was a permit was required? One would have been here for anything bigger than 10'x10'. Seems like a building inspector would have caught and flagged the issue. But maybe not, as my last two inspectors seemed happy to sign off the permit without even seeing the work! If you do end up reinforcing it, consider using pieces of steel pipe sourced from the junk yard. They'll last forever and will end up stiffer, and will likely be less expensive, too.

What a relief not having that tree hanging over any longer, Hawkeye. And especially since it required no effort or expense on your part, thanks to the kindness of your father!

Eric, don't blame me for the 50/50 acetone/ATF penetrating oil formula. It's been around for a while, and documented by some testing by a magazine a while ago. About a third of the way down this page there's more info.

That's some impressive marksmanship (pipesmanship?) on the pipe tunneling, Ed. And clever tool design, too!

Yes, the tire pro-rated warranties only work toward the purchase of the same or nearly the same tire. So if you weren't happy with the tires to begin with, the last thing you want is another set of them, right? So what good's the warranty?

I used to joke "Drive a British vehicle and walk with pride" but maybe it it should be "Drive a British vehicle and end up in a Ford", right Drew? But seriously, good they found the thunk, and hopefully it's the correct one. And a new one doesn't surface to take its place. The owner of the shop isn't working on an addition or swimming pool for his house, is he?:laughing::laughing:

Mostly, sounds like your timing was perfect!

Wheew, glad that job is over! Finished applying the bed liner to the inside of the wheel wells on the van, something I'd not been looking forward to. Worst part was cleaning up the surfaces with a wire wheel in the angle grinder; dust and grit went EVERYWHERE! I was worried that the two part bed liner would harden before I could finish brushing it on, so broke it down into three batches and it was fine. Even got the brush to last through the whole job by cleaning it in lacquer thinner after each batch (but still tossed it out at the end of the job). All the wells are now a uniform semigloss black, but that'll only last until the first trip down the dusty driveway, when the color will merge in with the dirty color of the rest of the chassis.

Also got the NAS set up last night, and the software it came with made it easy to get the drives formatted and set it up for Apple's TimeMachine backup software. I was rather surprised that 500Gb of data would take 19 hours to transfer, but then the source computer is on an 802.11N wireless network, and that really slows things down. The replacement 1 Tb SDD also arrived, and is now being cloned from the original. The original will go back into a USB housing to be the second off site storage backup for that laptop. And I now believe that one of the glitches I was seeing with that laptop was a bug in the OS software, as I triggered it yesterday on the bedroom laptop. I was dragging a window from the big display onto the laptop screen, and accidently overshot up to the top corner of the laptop display. The screen split itself in two parts and was crossed with hash lines, while the big display was fine. I brought up the display control panel and changed the resolution on the laptop display and it went back to normal. Changing it again to the correct resolution got it back to normal. So I'll be digging around on the Internet in the next few days to see if this is a known problem and if there's a fix. The USPS web page sez that the battery was just delivered, so I'll have that in by the end of the day as well.

Back to polishing the paint on the van today, hoping to get through the 3000 grit pads and start compounding with the buffer. It'll be interesting to see if I have enough compounding stuff in the bottle...

Happy Hump Day everyone!
