The rattle in my car has now been diagnosed as a bad steering rack. Turning the wheel back and forth hard does make a clunk that should not be there. All the tie rods, etc are tight as can be. So....another 900 dollars into the British economy...actually that's installed, which I thought was pretty reasonable, considering what other things cost on this car. Maybe I'll get it back later this week. Thank goodness for reliable trucks...
Had similar problem with our 2004 Chevy Malibu Maxx. Took it to a local mechanic. He installed a grease fitting on end of steering tube and used that to grease steering assembly. $85 and no more rattle. GM pickups from same vintage had same problem. Easiest fix was to put a hose clamp on end of tube where steering shaft comes out.

I was posting in someone elses UTV thread. We were looking at same ones.

Last week i test drove polaris 570, also looked at honda 700. Going back sometime to drive the honda, but am leaning towards polaris with bench seat for 3.

Ex-hurricane Nicole has eased off, deciding to go north and give us a miss. They say she will still be making some formidable waves for the boaters and surfers off the west coast. A side effect is that we are now sat under an area of high pressure and that should see us stay relatively dry for a for a few days.

Eric, don't blame me for the 50/50 acetone/ATF penetrating oil formula. It's been around for a while, and documented by some testing by a magazine a while ago. About a third of the way down this page there's more info.

RNG, you still get full credit for passing on the knowledge. The world needs good teachers just as much as it does inventors.

Thanks Drew for helping to keep Jaguar/Tata in business. Any contributions to our economy gratefully received, particularly at the moment when the money markets keep having a hissy fit over the value (or lack of) of the pound.

Need to dig out about 2" of dirt for the pipe to get through so am heading to lowes for a piece of 1 1/2 plastic pipe. Will cut the first foot or so on half and make a long skinny shovel and will just scoop it out.

Ed, good luck with the soil removal. I once made a similar plastic pipe scoop to get rid of wasps that had made a nest right inside a bailer. Poured ant powder onto the scoop, poked the pipe inside, then rotated 180 degrees to drop it on the nest entrance - and ran !

66 going up to 82 today, second to last warm day here, cooler weather coming in

When RNG gets tired of his delicate German motorcycles and wants to really man up with American iron,
I found a bike for him: Confederate Motorcycles | Combat Collection
seems to be a bit of wretched excess....or rolling art work, take your pick.
Reminds me of Mad Max a bit...I wonder if matching white sheets are packed with it....;)

so now would be a good time to travel to England? I mean any time is a good time to visit the country where people drive on the wrong side of the road, eat breakfast pudding made of blood and are constantly muttering Here Here! and Roger That and where are my Wellies?

I've been to London once, now want to go see the countryside. Keep the light on Eric, we are all coming over. Soon too....better tell your wife.

Now if only I could afford to go over and back on the QEII. A life dream for me, but geez is that trip expensive.

59 high of 83 last of warmth for a few days high in 50s by Saturday and a nice soaking rain tomorrow

63 working its way up to 83. A real scorcher yesterday hitting 91. Felt food outside, though, since humidity is low, and the sun is lower.

Now Drew, you know you have some Rebel DNA in you, and need that motorcycle. Plenty of warm days left for riding down to Emerald Isle, and there's room under that shelter for it, too.

Picked up a load of lumber at HD last evening with my son, after picking through quite a bit, and cutting two bundles open and commandeering one of their step ladders to get up high on the rack (they had a new load of ladders laying on the floor in front of the lumber). You gotta do that with prices like this...for example, one piece was $23 (of course it was a 6x6x10 treated). Splurged and picked up a laser level...never used one but believe it will make things much easier, plus I have another project for it coming up.

Ed, glad you're about to break through on your tunneling. I kept hoping you'd hit a gold deposit or something.

Buppies, our local weather just showed a bit of snow forecast for our northern mountains when this cold front comes in tomorrow.

Hope to blows leaves after work than I'll be caught up.

Enjoy the day all.

Coffee is done brewing. 54° with light rain this morning. Heading to 56° with off and on rain all day. Had a good time yesterday touring a couple apple cider mills. Nothing like fresh apple cider. Not much planned today.
Good Mornings All.

Billy, I think the local Lowes got me for 27 bucks for the same post; HD left here a few years back, not enough competition so
Lowes is having a field day here. We have another building material dealer but they only want to deal with real contractors, not Harry Homeowner.
And the prices weren't great since apparently they don't have to be and secondly because I wasn't getting the contractor discount.

during all the construction here I dumpster dove constantly to salvage what was being thrown out, usable wood, and made wood storage racks in the barn.
Now if I can only get time this winter to get back to building birdhouses with that recycled wood. Ed and I need to make some sawdust together.

they predict a little rain here, not much. it could be a lot more; they have really been off in the forecasts lately.

Good morning all, 62 this morning going to 80 and sunny. Worked about 20 min on the pipe digging and have it mostly done when the "baby" monitor battery died and needed recharged. So I will try to finish today. Should not take much more as I have already pulled about 5 gal. out and have it mostly done. After that I go and get the permit for the elec. Not going to get it and then find out I can't get the conduit through.

Drew Glad you got your rattle fixed. I know of a lady who took her car to be fixed for a rattle. After much head scratching they found a coke can under the seat. Could you do some X bracing over the top of the camper with some strong wire? Yes Drew That would be great, I am hoping to look at a bunch of guitar making stuff sunday and be closer to making sawdust.

Eric the wasps just needed a can of starting fluid and a match, instant flame broiled. Just kidding. I did do that once under the bathroom door for a guy at work that would hang out in the bathroom for an hour during the lunch rush at the parts store I worked at. He looked like this  when he came out.

Hope to make a road trip sat with the Boy. He loves James Easter of The Easter Brothers, and hope to make the 6 to 7 hr round trip to Mt Airy with him to see James at his store, Mayberry Music Center. Will likely be there for 1 hr. People come in and jam with James and who ever is there. Boy has not done anything in a toilet for years so prayers are requested. He also has not been up that long for a long time so he will be wore out when we get back.

Have a great day, Ed

Ed, good fortune on your trip.

Drew, I wonder what the country club would think if you drove up on that M/C? Does the horn honk out Dixie?

It's another nice day here just south of the Mason/Dixon, high in the 80's again, before the cool stuff moves in this weekend.

:cool2::cool2::cool2: Dug about 4 or 5 more scoops out and shoved the conduit in and it went right through the hole. :D

Kyle, is Finnly going to sell prints? Ed

64 this morning and headed to 72 today. Already 72 and .4 inches of rain. More rain coming.

Well I have the demo implement and it's working really nice. Just wish it took out both tire tracks as it's an offset unit. It's the 6' unit and they make an 8' but I'm short of recommended horsepower for the 8'. Will have to talk to some guys with an 8' to see what they are pulling them with. May have to look at a different manufacturer also.
