36 going to 40 today. Feeling pretty sore today, fell on the ice yesterday, bruised up my side, and back. Pretty gloomy looking weather out there.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 48°with clear skies this morning. Heading to 64° with plenty of sunshine. Yesterday never got to the forecast temperature. Clouds move in and kept it cool in afternoon. Nothing planned for today.
Good Morning All.

50's and some rain over the next few days, 50's for about 2 weeks, then unsure, but colder.

If anyone knew Ed's last name they could check his local news sites for info, but that usually means trouble. I don't think anything happened here to keep him away.

42 this morning and headed to 51 today. Rain back tomorrow.

More tax work. Then some more maintenance in chicken coops. Will probably set out some hay today, and fill the creep feeder for the first time. Think it's still too muddy to finish cleaning cattle pen. Maybe next week. Some dry weather in forecast.

57 and drizzly here, with temps in the 58 to 64 range for next 9 days.
Might just trick some plants to bud but likely some cold times ahead.
Last year I lost 98% of the blooms in my orchard due to a very late frost.
Hope Mother Nature is kinder this year.
The trees are all pruned and ready.

Headed to a not so local nursery later this week to talk about pecan and walnut trees.
Want to see what size trees they have. I figure I'll use up about 2/3 of that new acre in nut trees and leave a third of an acre
for a vegetable garden. It will be right next to my friendly neighbor, and he has offered to help with mowing and tilling.
Now I can't eat the produce from a third of an acre, but together we should be able to eat/preserve it. Going to grow lots of carrots.
This sandy soil should be great for it. I came from clay and I'm ready for sand...
Have already gone through the seed catalog and my imagination is surely larger than my garden.
This part will need to be fenced with plastic deer fencing for anything to survive. My neighbor will help me with that. Last time I did a big garden in PA I used twelve foot 4x4's and a lot of them, wrapped with deer fencing held on by wood strips with screws designed to come out again, so the whole thing is easily disassembled with a portable screw driver. With no damage to the plastic fencing so it can be reused if put away. Poles stay up for the winter.
and if my neighbor doesn't mind, maybe the whole thing stays up.

First I need to pushpin the garden area and figure out how many linear feet of fencing, plus two gates, I would need.
Easy project with help, soft soil, just sink the 12 foot poles down about three feet and put up the highest deer fencing they have. Likely ten feet.
I put extensions on each pole to keep the top taut plus a little more to run a string with shiny bits on it. Helps to keep the birds from killing themselves on the fence tops. I'm guessing after I build all that I'm likely to want to leave it but I've done this before and it really comes down
nicely. Not like there's much to see in that direction anyway.

I know many of you are buried in snow and ice, maybe talks of gardens will warm things up.

38°F and partly cloudy this morning, going up to 52° with some sunshine. I'm starting to miss the sunshine.

Terminex inspector came out yesterday morning and agreed that there is an active colony that he estimates has been there for possibly 1-1/2 to 2 years. When he went outside, he noted that some of the bait traps are missing ... the ones just outside of where the damage is. He was going to call the regular technician to find out why this is. He also suggested that they send their carpenter out to make the repairs to our floor (and possibly a wall), as he admitted that using ours would probably result in delays in getting reimbursed by their corporate office. Not particularly thrilled about the idea myself, but I guess if the repairs are shoddy we can document that, too, and bill them for the repairs of the repairs. Again, don't want to go that route, but this has held up our progress long enough (going on two weeks now).

Some unscheduled drama at the Smith farm this morning. Woke up to find the boy had disarmed the alarm system and left the back door open all night (not the first time we've found this). While taking out the trash before leaving for work, I found someone sleeping in the back seat of his truck (first time we've found this). Turned out to be one of the older punks he's been hanging with lately ... someone we've been informed by several LEOs from different jurisdictions is a known area drug dealer, and have tried apparently in vain to keep the boy away from. I. Was. Furious. ... but somehow maintained my composure. Wife woke the boy and had him take the idiot back to wherever he picked him up. Should be a fun conversation at dinner tonight.

Hope no serious injuries from the fall, Irv.
