"....... inexperience..... overconfidence.... likely a vortex ring state caused by too rapid descent."- David

It's been written in stone with CF debris parts.... My "blood" is tattooed in those inscriptions somewhere.

Vortex ring state = My quadcopter fell through its own 4 different "prop washes" on rapid descent = flight controller and operator overload, as a cause for the "hard landing."

The important thing is that your P3 is still flyable. My build could probably not even to be able to do a "touch and go" w/o some (probably essential) part breaking off somewhere.

You have some seriously beautiful scenery in HI. A P3 could make for some really nice aerial videos.

The ability to pilot a "drone" for the common good is a good thing with benefits for all.

Here are a couple of shots my son took, not sure which craft or camera. I couldn’t get the 360s to work. Shenandoah Valley.

Freedomlives, Welcome, I imported my German Shepard from Senica Slovak Republic are you located any where near there

Rained most of the day and another day I didn't get much accomplished.
Looks like rain all weekend. No ice left on the lake with the warmer weather.

Good evening all. 38F for the start, rain, light wind, .6 inch in the rain gauge. 47F for the high temp, rain, fog or mist all day, wind stayed light. Split some wood, cleaned kitchen, got a short bike ride, (wet roads and fogged glasses shortened ride) and WBS duty all day.

Welcome Freedomlives, as has been said we all post as it is convenient.

I have had some time on RC aircraft, 2 and 3 channel. My last boss in Rolla had a aeronautical engineering degree degree and designed RC aircraft. Most of my stick tim was on a 6 ft wing glider called Drifter II, had the 049 Cox power pod with an oversize fuel tank. Got about a 10 minute burn, would get 15-30 minutes of flight time. Had many a crash caused by poor construction, or overconfidence, and lost one when a blabby guy on an overboosted CB radio came by, and lost radio control. Never did find that one and it was yellow!!

My Niece had her kids buy their father an el cheepo copter for Fathers Day. Their Dad never got home 'til about 9 so the family all gathered out on the deck to see the maiden flight. The copter went straight up and then out to the west. And kept going, and going.

In another instance a bloke was on the beach flying out over the water. The copter was last seen heading out to sea with the bloke running down the beach and into the sea yelling out " come Back come back". I dont think the copter understood Kiwi English.

Like all things, it depends on which bulbs/manufacturers you'er talking about.

I have both the FEIT/Costco drop in tubes, and the two bulb fixtures (same source/make), and they are the same brightness as far as I can tell. Haven't done any measurements on power consumption, but I expect that the drop ins use more because it runs through a ballast.
I posted amp readings on fiet led fixtures vs replacement tubes in the shoplight discussion.

Really nice pics, Randy.

I’m in awe of the shots I do get just here at the house, especially the videos

a very interesting discussion on drones. Using Google Maps street view has wetted my appetite for this aerial fun, but not sure I would ever leave my property.

What is the legality of flying over other people's property and taking pics of them? Just asking. You drone owners must know.

Based on YouTube videos, lot of big ag farmers either own drones (their kids?) or hire someone to take pics because tons of drone videos of farm machinery and they are very cool, like seeing combines unloading from above.

Hopefully the military will not be allowed to arm small drones. I've seen way too many sci fi films of folks getting chased by murderous drones.... Of course I'd sure rather have a drone get shot at than a forward observer...but unless/until we all have ID chips in us, deciding friend or foe is something I'd like a human to do. Meanwhile I'm very happy with their beautiful pics and usefulness in things like search and rescue, research, etc.

50 going to 69.

Coconino, my dog (birthday today), was growling at the door a half hour ago, so we went outside...heard a flock of Tundra swans bugling/calling and their wing beats through the air as they flew low overhead. Very dark outside, but they know where they are going.

Hiked a neighbor's forest yesterday for a couple of hours and picked up two ticks - unfortunately didn't find one until he had taken hold real well.

Randy, nice shots of the valley...looks like an old abandoned go-kart track? ..and one maybe the Coors brewery?

David, I checked out a video of that Syma quad, pretty cool for the money.

Good morning. My arms are aching this morning after spending too many hours with a chainsaw yesterday, cutting back and then laying a few more yards of hedgerow. I usually take it steadier, but the cold wind didn't encourage stops longer than it takes to refuel and tickle each chain tooth with 3 stokes of the file. The punture proof gloves I got at the beginning of winter have proved excellent, not a single thorn has got through the palms and only one on the back. Just a pity the cuffs are quite short, anyone seeing the scratches across my wrists will think I have suicidal tendencies - or kittens.

Drew, you like kites, wonder if they would be another way to get a little camera up in the sky.

Wng, I am always in awe that something as big as a swan can flap their wings and fly and admire they way in which they often skim over our house and tree tops, not wasting energy flying any higher than they need to.
