Good evening to everyone! Went up to a high of 92, slight breeze, but occasional gusts / dirt Devils kicking up mini dust storms. Same forecasted for the next 7 days....I am so over this drought!

Son and DIL are still evacuated, they have evacuated another 1000 homes today. Wind, extremely low humidity, and an abundance of dry fuels.....not a good combo- fire has tripled in size the last few days. It is amazing they have not lost one structure. Only 10% contained.

Well, I survived my first week back on light duty. It was really iffy the first couple of days, but knee has really been improving. A few instances of pain, and can tell it "gets tired", then just a little swelling. Maybe I'm over the hump...

Yesterday and today were the first time in 3 1/2 months that I was truly able to be productive on the homestead.

1) All that mulch that I picked up a couple weeks ago was finally spread. I'm one load short. Going to get it tomorrow. Then finish up.

2) The "cutting of the 1/2 fence" project is complete (neighbors keep coming by and complementing the property, saying "never knew it was that pretty behind the fence").

3) Got the misaligned (infringing 3' onto our property) neighbor's fencing, posts, and H posts all taken down, 350' worth. Actually 700' worth. I attached a second layer of 2x4" welded wire fencing onto his field fence, it had to come off first. I will never, ever, attach a fence that secure again in my life! I have numerous blisters from cutting the bailing wire twists--4 rows, every 16", for 350'. Then graded / prepped the line to install a new fence where it should be. Going to tackle that project next weekend.

Now if I can do a rain dance that would work, I'd be a happy camper......

Prayers out to those needing... Have a great start to the week!

I think, when I take blades off for sharpening, I’ll use the onboard maintenance lift first, if that isn’t high enough I’ll use one of our FEL’s as well. I like to do all work without really getting underneath the deck. With a 72” deck, opposed to prior 60” deck, the middle blade will be the biggest challenge. I’ll probably put my farm jack under middle of deck, for safety, for that one. I trust farm jacks less than anything I have.

FWIW, I trust my FEL’s over the Kubota lift system, that I’ve yet to try.

I suspect theyæ±*e CFL bulbs Don?

Yes they say Fluorescent on the bulb and it also says not to use on dimmer switch. They are at places that are usually not dimmed anyway - kitchen, bathroom.
Rick as Roy said, Mikim died while using the FEL and a chain, I think the chain slipped. You may not be under it but I bet you are a candidate for a severely broken arm. I can just hear Mike's last words "That thing ain't going nowhere."

Kyle, I was thinking the same thing that the hot tub would be un-refreshing. I forgot my hat and sunglasses working out so I'll hit the pool tomorrow. Whipper made it a block on the leash till she saw some kids playing in a yard and would not go past them. They won't be there long just visiting grandma.

Z Turn is 60 in deck with mulching deck and striping kit. We have two sets of blades that we swap out once a month. Have found this works well for us. Due to our uneven terrain the 60 in deck works best for our application with less scalping and better overall cut. Use a thunder gun air wrench to change them and keep myself clear should something happen

Don, I lift the ZT with certified 10K lift slings, so no slip. I like living so, I’m overly cautious. Guess that’s my engineering education.

But, thanks for caring!

Glad to hear you’re getting settled in my friend.

41 right now...high in the mid-70's.
Didn't get to assembling the Mojack yesterday, but I did finally mow the field. The grasses were 2-4 feet tall and I went pretty slow (so any small critters have time to get out of the way). Next mowing will be in a higher gear.
Wife and stepdaughter are flying to visit another stepdaughter tomorrow, so I'll be babysitting the dog
Back to the grind today...

Unlike LS, I achieved nothing yesterday, despite it being warm and dry all day, with only the lightest of winds to float away the soap bubbles I was blowing for the grandkids.

Whole fields of thistles were left untopped, the roller stayed unwelded and the mortar gaps in the brickwork remained unpointed. A little catching up to do today ...

Good morning all, 65 and foggy this morning going to a high of 70 with an 80% chance of heavy rain. Going to the grocery store and get a few things and check with the guy that has the mill and see if he is back yet. Need to make a dump run soon and clean out some more stuff from the garage. Wonder what I will get done today.

Eric, have you tried a brick jointer rake? It's a handle, two wheels and a hard nail. The nail just rakes the old mortar out. Works well in some cases, if the old mortar is not to hard. A lot quicker than a chisel. I see them on line for $7 to $15.

LS, glad you are improving, praying that continues and that the kids home stays safe, and some rain too.

Prayers for all who need them, have a great day. Ed

66 and foggy, going to only 74.

LS, glad the knee is better.

Eric, sounds like you had a perfectly good day.

I hand dug a trench 10" deep and 50' long for my first French drain yesterday...moist soil/clay made the digging easier, but the lifting heavier. Had just finished smoothing the trench bottom and using a string level to make sure properly angled. Was ready to put fabric, rock and pipe when a thunderstorm attacked...later I went down to check on it during the hardest rain, and water was flowing, so I'm sure some erosion and refill at the bottom. If it dries out enough, I'll try to finish today, but got over 1" of rain on top of the 1.7" the day before.

Good morning! 77˚ heading to 100˚, sunny, South wind at 15mph. I need to do some more exploring in the area today and look into a good composting unit. The horticulture club might have a veggie compost pile, I'll have to inquire. We used to throw all our veggie scrapes in the keyhole garden every day and now it sure seems a waste just to throw them in the garbage.

I took whipper out before sunrise to go, but she just laid down on the patio and refused to come back in. She is making progress, I think. The first sign of activity is the sprinkler man stopping behind the back yard to turn on the sprinklers in the section of the golf course behind me - about 100 yards of irrigation sprinklers, we will se if Whipper changes her mind about staying outside when he dives up with his JD utility vehicle.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 57° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 79° with sunny skies. Yesterday I got pond cleaned and net to keep Herons out removed. Decided to throw it away. Going to install new one with plastic strips screws on the PVC pipe. Strips are made. Hope to get them installed before a Heron finds out net is not there anymore.

Don, give the kids some dog treats for Whipper.

LS, glad you are feeling better.

Randy, Prayers for Ellen's mother and Grandson.

To those lifting mower to change/sharpen blades. Be extra careful. I run my front mower up on car ramps with deck fully raised. Give me full access to blades. But I still put a jack stand under it for protection.

Eric, Grand kids always come before projects. Until they get old enough to assist with the projects. :D

Prayers for all those in need.

Good morning All.
