Need to pour first cup of coffee. 59° with mostly clear skies this morning. Heading to 84° with chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Got .1" of rain with a passing storm dropped it on us. Got my project done yesterday. Need to clean some around and in house and cut grass again. We are getting company for the weekend. Going to park their RV on our RV pad.

Wife and I have been thinking we need to start having someone come in to do house cleaning. I know some here have it done. Any recommendation on cost, how often and other concerns?

Drew, careful on letting older people pick color swatches. Ever wonder why they sell Pink furniture. Cataracts can make Pink look Tan. :confused3:
Along with Leisure Van. Look at Phoenix Cruiser. They make some of the best class B+ RV's. Plus you can get them custom built without slides. Over on the forum that I moderate there is a lot of info on buying a Class C/B+ RV. Here is one thread on the subject.

Ron, no time for rv next year, one more year of big garden and that's kind of all consuming added to the rest I
have to do. I am leery of Elkhart Indiana production, looking for higher quality small with good QC.
Good QC and Elkhart in my mind is unlikely from my own experience.
You get flimsy walls, cheap stereos and all fixtures are plastic for weight saving. The shower floor flexes under you...
Looking for small rig with higher spec equipment. It will wind up costing as much as my last big boxy Class A V10 gasser, but
hopefully I'll be getting more quality along with my less quantity.
Don't want to tow a car, want it small enough to get into places, likely 24 feet max.

wrote a letter to local city water dept asking if they might consider capping my water bill over a hundred bucks a month since all the water was going to
grow vegetables for local food pantry. Food pantry is well known locally. No reply.
But....lo and behold, my next water bill was way less than expected for all that water use.
I did the numbers and my rate had dropped from .9 cents to .7 cents per gallon effective July 1.
Well wasn't that nice. Have no idea if everyone's bill was reduced, will need to ask my neighbor.
.7 cents per gallon seems pretty reasonable to me for potable water.
Boy I bet David up on his Hawaiian mountaintop would like water at that rate.
Though he collects his own of course.

Eric, Those police cars are so cute. I will have to get a pic of a Texas Police vehicle They are big black SUVs around here.
So the security system was like a mouse trap! Good planing there by the security team.

What are type of police vehicles do you have in your community? Can you get cuter than Eric?

Ron my mom might have that thread cutter. I remember my dad cutting threads, I don't think she needs it again, I'll check.

75 degrees this morning going for a high of 92 with a chance of rain. The airport, 10 miles from here, shows to have gotten about.08" of rain around midnight last night. But I was surprised to find about .48" of rain in my gauge this morning; first measurable amount of rain since the 20th of June.

I'm watching an old "My Three Sons" episode. They live in a neighborhood and have an incinerator in the back yard, Bud is burning trash!

It has square sides and a round top and a chute on the side that trash can slide down. It is about 4'-6' tall. Can anyone find a pic?

It was the episode where the rocket explodes after take off on their TV.

Edit: found them, they banned them in 1957.

Ron, Mom has a cleaning girl come in once every two weeks. She works for 3 hours doing the vacuuming and cleaning bathrooms and dusting. She works for a local company. Cost is $15 an hour. They use all Mom's equipment and cleaning supplies. They really need to come out and you tell them exactly what you want them to do and they figure how long it will take them. One a week or once every two weeks is an option also, if you can do minor cleaning in-between.

Nice quilts! My mom made quilts when she was still young, in her late 80’s. She also made purses that looked like designer brands, as well as soft side luggage.
Still hot and humid, all the rain keeps missing us but the humidity is so high the grass has to be mowed every 3-4 days.
Gotta repair a building ramp today, one board looks like it’s taking Viagra, I guess the humidity and heat got to it.

Of course, burning trash in the city where I live is prohibited, but some neighbors figured out how to get away with doing it. They build a little fire pit in the backyard, get a stick and some hot dogs, so as they burn their trash, they're just roasting hot dogs, which is permitted.

I do still remember living outside the city limits of Healdton, OK, in the early to mid-50s, and the city dump was on the same road and was regularly set afire to burn as much of the trash as possible.

That's still a HUGE motorhome, Drew. My friend's widow has a Ford Transit based unit on order from the Sportmobile plant in Fresno, CA. It's still bigger than my little Vanagon, but at least it'll fit in a regular car parking spot. Not sure about quality, but they sure get a bundle for one.

Ron, I'm wondering if the cutters couldn't be sharpened with a stone. As I recall, they're just rectangular blocks of steel into which teeth are cut to form the threads, and honing the edges should restore sharpness. You'd have to be careful to take the same amount off each cutter, but a pair of mics would keep you on track there. Food for thought...

Believe it or not, even after all the fires we're having out here, people are still burning trash and brush! Everyone is super nervous, and so far the fires have been put out before they can spread, but what gets into people to make them think it's OK to do that?:confused2:


Attached the subframe and made a trial fit of the exhaust system on the old motorcycle yesterday. It's a tight squeeze for the collector under the engine, and it might need a little surgery before all is said and done, but I think I can make it work. Moving the exhaust from the left side to underneath will allow the use of full size saddle bags on the left as well as the right, but it means using a system from a later, and somewhat longer, BMW. With a bandsaw and a welder, almost anything is possible!:laughing: I also found the piece of chrome moly tubing I purchased several years ago to reinforce the subframe. Only had to look three places! I'll run a piece from the back end of the subframe down to the passenger footrest area to triangulate loads on the cargo rack back directly into the main frame. That generation of bike was prone to break the subframe just behind the shock absorber mount, and some very inventive fixes resulted as owners tried to get themselves back to civilization.

I’m amazed at the talent level of the people on this forum, the number of things that each of us can do well is mind blowing. Compare that to the people that can’t put a spark plug in their mower and the contrast is astounding.

I find that contrast somewhat frightening, since the votes of those that can't tell the difference between a spark plug and a peanut count just as much as those that can.:shocked:

Worse, there's a growing trend for those folks to be proud of their ignorance, and the media seems to have taken up their banner of stupidity as the new normal. So much for our First World standing if this continues.

We were still burning trash in a burn barrel in our back yard into the mid-'70s when I was growing up in Granite City IL. They banned it eventually, and even banned leaf burning sometime in the '80s. The only "trash" we burn now at our place is paper and cardboard. Everything else goes into the big 65 gallon trash can for roadside pickup every Wednesday. I honestly don't miss the smell of burning trash.

A lot of people around town are pretty pumped up over the 100th PGA Championship this weekend at Bellerive Country Club. Seems like everyone is at least talking about it, if not excited about it. I was talking with my boss this morning, who's a member at that club, and the preparations that go into an event like this are almost insane. What they refer to as the merchandise "tent" is actually a solid structure with drop ceiling, air conditioning, and 50 big screen TVs. He was telling us that even after they finish the event on Sunday, it'll be another three weeks before he can play on the course again.
As a golfer, I'm enjoying all the golf talk. I'm still amazed, though, at the number of people who play golf.

74°F and .33 inches rain. Hector went further south than anticipated sparing us any major effects.

Might get mowing finished today. Sears got steering bushing replaced, apparently much simpler than replacing the complete steering assembly as I had done in the old machine. The intermittent blade clutch error remains a mystery.

In awe over the intricate beauty of all these quilts.

when the guy at the furniture store asked me how I was doing, after I had gone up and down the swatch rows and
was thoroughly confused, I told him oh like I'm walking on nails. He looked at me funny and then laughed and understood.
Then by a stroke of luck my lady decorating consultant aka Miss Daisy who I drive around...
was next door at a store, saw my car, figured out I was in the furniture store and
came in to help me. Ah, the cavalry has come.
Best part is she liked what I picked out best of all, and she isn't the slightest bit shy to say otherwise.
So that's done, a whole morning consumed by a love seat, now it's stupidly hot out and I'm sitting
in the comfortable a/c procrastinating, what can I put off until tomorrow morning.

Once it gets to 4pm here the garden area is mostly blocked and in light shade. That's the time for me to pick my okra and check for more melons ripening.
I missed it this morning so the okra will be a little fatter and longer than usual. And I believe tonight might be the night I first try eating my own okra.
Going to try seasoned corn meal after dipping them in something. Then baking them 375 for half an hour. Or until they look unhappy.
It's the dip in something I'll get creative with once I get to that step. Actually could have a couple different dips and see how they taste.
say one ranch dressing, one Italian, one curry and then maybe one goopier barbecue sauce flavor. All lightly corn breaded. No hot stuff for me.

PJ, are you going to be able to go see the golf game?
sure takes impressive coordination to golf well; probably not the best sport for a kid
who was called by his soccer coach "a bull in a china shop". I didn't live that down for awhile, but we won the tri-county league my senior year and all
was forgiven. Otherwise never played golf in my life. Fun to watch on tv, too bad you can't fast forward...same for all sports.

Smoke continues today, unhealthy to outdoors. Trying to get lawn greener for fire protection around house. We are in pretty good shape, but would be more comfortable with greener grass.
