Good Morning!!!! 59F @ 6:30AM. Sunny. High 83F. Winds WSW at 5 to 10 mph.
Yesterday was a very big day for the Volkswagon van. The mechanic was able to get it past the smog test, a huge relief after last week when one tester refused to test it because he wasn’t sure about the Subaru engine swap. Then late last week, this testing outfits equipment broke, and pushed the test out to yesterday. The last aggravation came when I went to the DMV to get license plates for it, and learned that there was some kind of hold placed on it that prevented the clerk from issuing the plates. It turns out that when I put the check into the drop box at the Chico DMV a few weeks ago, the clerk there forgot to lift the hold he’d placed on the registration. Yesterday I’d gone to the DMV in Paradise to avoid the two and a half hour wait at Chico, and the Paradise clerk was powerless to fix the problem. But she did telephone the manager of the Chico branch, who arranged for me to go directly to the forgetful clerk, and since I had to go to Chico anyway, it wasn’t that big a deal. It still took the Chico clerk a half hour on the telephone to the Sacramento DMV headquarters to fix the problem, though, time I spend standing at his window watching him yap on the phone.:confused2: But I was able to get the license plates, and they are on the van now, and the mechanic thinks the drive line vibration is due to worn out rubber bushings between the front diferential and the frame. He’s taking a couple more days to make sure, then I pick up the van so I can paint a decorative color band around the body during this nice spell of warm, not hot, weather we’re enjoying. Then when the bushings come in, I’ll go down and help him install them and this ordeal will be over.:muttering:
The BMW dealer had to order the choke cable I needed, but did have new switch clusters, so I’ll keep going on the old bike until the van’s ready. Like most of you, I just can’t sit still with nothing to do...
Happy Hump Day everyone!
