60°F this morning and forecast for 71°F this afternoon. Weather Channel is predicting 38°F for Wednesday morning so ..... typical Texas January temperature roller coaster.

During moving equipment, out of the way, to install new shop lights one of the casters on my out feed / assembly table failed. Simple? Tip it over and replace the caster? Nope, not that simple.

The bottom deck is home to a large 6 drawer drafting flat file cabinet. In order to not have to unload and remove the flat file I'm going to put my palletforks on the tractor, install the 72" fork extensions, and see if I can just lift the entire table high enough to replace the caster. I may just replace the entire set with higher capacity casters that I already have. The new casters are a bit larger so ..... will make the table height a bit higher that the table saw. I've already planned to build a new out feed table for my table saw this spring so, no problem.

I'll get some pictures ...... as this progresses.

Everyone have a great Tuesday!

Prayers to all.

They're both sweeties!
How old is Sarah...about 6 months?

Not quite, 16 weeks. She痴 about 40 lbs. The older dog is slightly over 70. We try to keep the weight in check. My wife has run a dog grooming shop for years. She痴 seen a lot of overweight dogs.

temps clawed their way upwards out of the teens, now 20. By 11am it will warm enough to head out.
After I bring back a pickup truck load of mulch hay, I'm going to build my worm bag. Fun little write-up on their website,
of course, I am 100 percent conflicted since Mom is my adorable goddaughter. Her Dad was my closest friend in high school.
Very photogenic family, told them they need to make commercials with their kids plugging their products.
Ok, who wants to be the Worm Lady? me, me me.

They apparently are getting in almost more business than they can handle.

Looks like the low is 13° this morning. It started snowing just after I posted yesterday. It snowed most of the day it looks like we got 8-10 inches. We ended up with some pretty good drifts. Today is going to be partly cloudy with some wind and In the high 20's.

I'll go out later this morning and move the snow around. I'm not sure if I'll get much of anything done after that.

Hope everyone has a nice day.
CWB.

Got some seat time. Cleaned up the drive and walkways. Before snow and rain come in this afternoon and overnight.

Drew, good article on worms. Never thought you could run a business selling worms for composting. For fishing yes.
Worm are a natural thing here. Just water lawn and worms come to the surface. My piles of leaves are loaded with them.

Drew, keep us updated with the worm bag. That is one thing the horticultural club does not have. Most are open to new ideas. How do the worms do in the heat?
Is there a “commercial” version of the “bag” like dumpster size? Would Urban like to try something large in a community setting?

Is there someway to incorporate seat time in worm poop?

The club said they once tried composting and it was a failure, but did not ask them the details. Now we just fill up dumpsters and a company makes the compost and we buy it by the bag. We have several hundred bags in the stock pile.

5° this am, but no 30 mph wind. Felt so much better than yesterday.

Little gas line explosion yesterday in southern ohio near my hometown. One person lost their house and vehicles. Gas lines are everywhere there due to all the gas drilling.

Besides the unusually cool weather, and unusually warm weather, and the very unusual amount of rain in the last 6 months, this past week I got a letter from the city. It seems that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has "updated" their studies of the floodplain and I'm now in an area where mandatory flood insurance may soon be required.

Good Morning Everyone!!!!

The wind was howling here all night. -2ºF was todays low temperature and the wind finally becalmed. A clear and sunny morning; 14ºF presently; ~18ºF for today’s high. I got up this AM let Brogen do his business on the tether, prepared his breakfast (still uneaten) , cleaned out the wood stove, made a fire, made coffee, drank coffee, and went back to bed (i.e. rest the knee).Plan for today: Not Much. As much as I dislike rain in Winter; this midweek storm is welcomed this year (if wifey does some roof raking;)). 3 weather events on the radar screen.

Kyle- Your son should be congratulated.

Bruce- Thanks for the information on the drone. I upgraded/installed DJI’s most primitive flight controller in my homebuilt. The Mavic can almost fly itself when programmed correctly.

Irv- I hope that you shake your sinus infection, and thanks for sharing the picture of your dogs. Boxers are magnificent dogs.

Buppies- I hope that your wife has a great birthday.

BEF- I am happy to read that no reports of hurt/injured. One small consolation for the homeowner and family.

I hope that everyone has a decent day today.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers.

24°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 43°. Expecting rain this afternoon and through the evening. Warm spell for the next couple of days here, then back below freezing for the weekend.

Wife got a couple of lights on the dash of her new car yesterday. Voice in the car told her to get engine serviced soon. She was not pleased. A call to the Kia dealer revealed there is a recall on the Niros for a fire hazard somewhere under the back seat. Kia's not having a good time with fire hazards lately. Lady at the dealership told her the soonest they could get her in is Thursday afternoon, yet told her it's safe to drive until then. She asked for her name, and noted that she told her it's safe. Hoping she was right.

Don't know if this helps or not, Bird, but it looks like the insurance is only mandated if you have a mortgage from a federally regulated and insured bank:
Mandatory Purchase of NFIP Coverage | FEMA.gov

Still might be a good idea to get flood insurance, as most homeowner's policies don't include it. People out here in the burned areas are finding out the hard way that they need flood insurance because the rain water just runs off instead of sinking in. Most of us never thought about flooding in the mountains.

Good Morning!!!! 46F @ 8:45AM. Sunny to partly cloudy. High 54F. Winds NNE at 10 to 15 mph.

I bet your boy is proud of that cabbage, Kyle! If Drew grew 'em that big, he'd need a semi-truck to get 'em to the food bank!

Lots of seat time moving snow out there; Don, do you need a winter vacation to help 'em out?:confused2:

A lady in the process of purchasing a house in my area asked our neighborhood Facebook group how we dealt with the stress of living in wildfire country. That led to a very informative discussion covering everything from sprinkler systems and debris removal to plant choices and insurance. Lots of helpful info; more homework to do for me.

Finally got around to replacing the clutch master cylinder in the Vanagon yesterday. Took about an hour mostly fumbling my way through it. Didn't spill much brake fluid bleeding the system at the master cylinder, but got a nasty surprise when I went to bleed the slave back at the transaxle. The bleed nipple was hard up against the mineral based insulation that surrounds the fuel tank, and there was no way to get the cover off the bleed nipple. I had to use a spoon to collapse the insulation and make clearance, which told me that the supposedly new slave cylinder had very likely never been bled. And from the looks of the master cylinder I took out of it, it wasn't new, either. I got it working better than it had been and now it goes into gear a bit easier, but from the color of the fluid that came out I should go back in and keep bleeding it until it runs clear. Yes, good help is hard to find...:irked:

Last time I came back from town I noticed a rather large manzanita bush had fallen into the road just up from the cul-de-sac. The trunk was badly burned and I'm not sure why the fire crews didn't take it out when they came through, but there it is. I have some branches to move down to the firewood lot anyway, so this morning I'll get the tractor out and take care of the manzanita, too. Then while the bucket is still on, I'll shovel the ashes out of the campfire pit and haul them down to a little gully I'm trying to fill up. The ashes should be out out out after last week's rains. Then the forks go back on so I can finally load a fresh pallet of firewood into the garage. That's enough to get me to lunch, and maybe a nap...

Good morning to all! Low of 26F, only going up to 33F. Snow started falling at around 7 am. Light stuff right now. The guessers aren't even predicting how much. The news was reporting numerous accidents and backups in the canyon due to black ice.

Wind was wreaking havoc all night, finally calming down around 6am, just before the snow started.

Claye, you forgot to close the window again....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MRS BUPPIES!

Drew, looks like you may have some competition on the garden front! Nice looking cabbage by Kyle's son!

Jay, sounds like you are still able to manage the knee, experience I'm sure. Sounds like a good plan for today.

Went to PT this morning at 8, no exercises this morning due to swelling. They only did some stretching and massaging the area around the knee. Did ultrasonic infusion of a topical steroid to try and reduce the swelling.

We were planning on some errands today, but just might kick back and wait until tomorrow.

Everyone have a great day, prayers sent for all, a few extra for those needing to heal.

Lots of seat time moving snow out there; Don, do you need a winter vacation to help 'em out?:confused2:

The only thing I, like most Texans, know to do with snow is ski on it or crash a vehicle on it.

/ Good morning!!!! #87,758
Ted- Good luck with the PT. I hope the topical steroids helps the swelling. At least they are not draining the knee.

So far I am managing the swelling; probably because the knee is immobilized. We'll see about the PT. This group rehabbed my ankle. I hope for similar outcomes.

After 2 previous rounds of leg immobilizations I've gotten mobile enough to do a lot independently; admittedly it was a long and at times painful learning experience.

It makes me crazy watching wifey operate the roof rake and carry firewood, but I am staying in the house today. I am fortunate Wifey can do what she is doing.

Brogen is slowly learning the limits and physics of a tether. Fortunately he is keeping to his predictable schedule = 4:00AM wakeup.

Life would be boring without challenges. It seems that every time things gets boring things change.

Happy birthday to Randy’s wife!

13 this morning as the winds have died down to 3-5 mph. Above freezing now, 33°. Upper 50s tomorrow, then heavy rain and wind again later in the week.
I have not accomplished a lot of work this week. Cold and I don’t get along that well.
Have a good day, God bless.

PLEASE READ!
I have one garage door opener that will not function properly below around 25-27°, it will come up about two feet and stop. If I hit the button and lift a little, it opens fine. I can’t find any binding and I have lubricated the tracks and rollers. The doors are not particularly heavy, the openers are Genie chain drive units that were premium units designed for heavier doors. Above 30° it works as well as the other two.
Opinions please.
