Just had made in Instant Pot chicken soup from our leftover Costco rotisserie chicken. Medicinally good.

Knowing how you guys like recipes:

Feel free to determine own amounts and ingredients

1/3 to 1/2 leftover Costco chicken, large breast pieces removed and cut up and reserved, remainder of carcass broken up.

About quart of water
Onion eighthed
Clove of fresh garlic
Peppercorns
Salt

High pressure 45 minutes (long maybe, but for reason)
15 minute nature release.

Pick out bones, cartilage, skin, etc from meat, set aside. I usually miss some real small pieces.

Add
The reserved cutup chicken meat
3 large carrots thinly sliced
Minced fresh tumeric
Minced fresh ginger
Pearl barley
A bit more water.

Another 15 minutes high pressure cook and release. This time was just guessed to cook carrots and barley. Less may be good.

We added some leftover rice. I seasoned mine with celery salt, wife added some red pepper flakes.
Enjoy

Bonus for those of us with dogs and why the long initial high pressure.
All the chicken stuff removed put into vitamix with a bit of water and run until smooth resulting in the bowl of chicken goodies for the pups.
In other words everything except the plastic container and string gets eaten from that $5 chicken.

A quick skunk story: the only skunk I have seen out here was about 10 years ago. My MIL lived with us at the time and she would constantly put cat food out on the back deck for a couple of strays. She hadn't seen this one stray that she liked for a few days. She suddenly exclaimed that the cat was back and excitingly started out the back sliding glass door, followed by my daughter. All of a sudden my son starts yelling "that's not a cat!" and also trys to get outside to protect / stop his grandma from the 'perceived' cat....just as my daughter slams his head in the door. My wife heard the commotion and exited from another door from the laundry room yelling "Mom that's not a cat...it's a skunk!" My MIL was hard of hearing and with all these people yelling at once, couldn't really hear clearly what everyone was saying. She also has very bad eyesight and wasn't wearing her eyeglasses, so she really couldn't even see that it was a skunk!

With all this commotion and loud yelling, the skunk decided to get out as quick as he could! Fortunately nobody got sprayed, son didn't sustain any injuries, and I finally convinced my MIL to stop feeding the outside critters. I really wish I would have been able to video the whole fiasco, it was hysterical from my POV!

Good evening all. 36F for the start, clearing sky, light wind. Sky finished clearing, wind got brisk and gusty, high temp made it to 64F. Choir practice to start the day, bike ride in the afternoon, had planned on a couple of errands, but did not pan out.
Skunks are less likely to spray if they can't see. Cover the cage before moving and most of the time they won't spray. PJ good luck with the skunk.
Drew good luck selling your mower, sorry about your potential new helper, it is crazy how people behave about a job.
Eric hope your wife has a quick recovery, and you can cook better than these guys give you credit for :D
prayers for all.

Kyle, this is my fridge, French door, 25 cu ft linear compressor, I don’t know how big you need.

Thanks. I've applied my Mfg Engineering/repairman motto to it...."A model T with air conditioning"...
Ended up getting a Whirlpool 20.? cubic foot (all that would fit the cutout). In Stainless, plain jane analog temp dial. Besides the compressor, the only moving part is the light switch.

The frost struggled to make much of an impression on my weather bucket this morning, since then it has been sunshine all the way, with radio warning fair skinned people to apply sunscreen.

Not quite working to the sunny day project list though, no time since having received temporary promotion to chief dog walker, chef and clothes-hang-out-to-dry-person, with other changes in job description to follow shortly. My wife slipped in the kitchen last night and on the way down hit her arm against the kitchen island. It was still hurting this morning so I took her down to the community hospital. X-Rays show a hairline fracture, with appointment at county hospital for tomorrow. Wish her luck - she will need it with my cooking to contend with !

sorry to hear about your wifey. Also sorry to hear about your temporary promotions. Hopefully, wifey will get well soon, so you can be demoted. My friends are over at Oxford. He sent me a photo of a marker showing that Robert Boyle figured out Boyle's law there.

finished my rototilling, hope not to have to do that again, now the hay goes down.
ENT called, said they were ordering a CT scan on me, said MRI was blurred. Not like I moved...
I just want them to find the missing common sense between my ears...;)

Wind has died down, very pretty out

Maybe the wind carried off that common sense, along with mine...

Got the 2 orings I needed at work. Fixed the faucet's spigot leak.

Went to doctor. Of course my BP was just right. (He saw it at it's worst last Thursday afternoon) Figures, since my previous medicine was good, it's just that it blocked more things than I believed I needed blocked... I'm just thankful that the BP is back down. The DR ran my labwork through a Mayo Clinic piece of software as an analysis tool. He said this will show my probability of having a heart attack in the next 10 years. It came back with a 5% chance. He said that part of it is numbers based on parameters of being a male, at my age of 58. He then adjusted some of the parameters to show worse case scenario, such as not being on any BP's or statin type drugs (I'm still not on statins because my triglycerides and cholesterol numbers are actually pretty good) and the worst case showed 7% chance of heart event in next 10 years. He said that's pretty normal. He mentioned a drug called Finasteride? It looks like it has plenty of drama potentially associated to using it. It is for keeping testosterone from reaching the prostate. Some men take it for male pattern baldness, but I've got a pretty good head of hair still....so don't need it for that.

RNG, Buckeye, you guys are wearing me out with the wood cutting...

Time for prayers and bed.

Good night team.

RNG, Buckeye, you guys are wearing me out with the wood cutting...

I'm wearing ME out with the wood cutting, so that makes two of us. Buckeye, keep up the good work!

Looks like it'll be too wet to be outside for the next week or so, but catching up on inside work will keep me plenty busy.:dance1::laughing:

Right now, another storm is coming through, the satellite internet is intermittent, and it's having a good try at ripping the roof off the back porch...

14 right now and that's about where it's going to stay today...

Suzette's lungs have cleared up (had liquid in her lungs) and off oxygen. I hope they'll release her soon!

Eric, take care of your wifey!

Pretty stiff winds yesterday...seemed like snow squalls driving home yesterday afternoon...

-10 and going to a high of 10°F. Wind WNW 17 mph. Mainly sunny.
No snow in the forecast until next Saturday.

A question for you guys that cut up busted trees. My Spruce is all but 'down', 98 % of the tree is horizontal, but it is still connected to the crown by a few pieces of meat and bark and those are within arms reach and not over head. The question is would you cut the bottom side of the bends or the top side?
I will try to get pics after sunrise.

Have a good day all

Good morning all. Going to be a nice day today, nice change from rain.
Today is day to spray dormant spray on orchard, running a little late but no blooms yet, just buds.

33 going to 63 today. Not liking cold weather and that awful S word in the forecast for next week.

L4N, be careful, can be a widowmaker if trunk flies out from tension. If you aren't sure, put a rope on it.
