Good morning all,

24 degrees this morning with clear skies and no wind.

I have been eagerly waiting for the snow to melt so I can get going on the yard. Most of the snow around the house is melted but still very muddy. A big storm is expected tomorrow night that will last a couple days with snow likely down to my elevation. (6000') So looks like I'll be waiting longer. I also need to get some road base on the road in front of my house. When it was put in originally they never put a top coat on it. So there are some bigger rocks that make riding the Harley in very scary. I need all the snow banks on the roadsides to melt also so I can get started on that.

I just cannot get it down right. My attempts most always leave me curving through the wood. So I rotate lots of chains. Lol.

For me, they work best, sharpening chain while on the saw. I sharpen every other link, so I keep angle correct, then sharpen the ones facing other direction. I mark the first link I sharpen with a black Sharpie. 4 minutes tops. I bought the diamond bits back in 2014 and still using the first two.

I've also got a battery Dremel, I carry with me, if I'm out working away from the shop, for quick touch ups.

A better picture of the tree I need to deal with after the snow is gone. There is about 2' of snow yet to go.

I tried one of the inexpensive Harbor Freight sharpeners and ended up with the same result. The plastic in that machine left a lot to be desired accuracy wise, but it did demonstrate the potential of the machine it was copied from. That is the Oregon 542654. It does a very nice job without a lot of fuss. Use it as shown in the video and take very light cuts, just enough to get back to a sharp edge, and avoid heating up the tooth enough to burn the temper out of it, and the chain will last a long time. And if you've got several chains, you can wait until you have them all to sharpen and do them all at once, saving a bit of setup. I bolted the sharpener to a piece of wood, then use a pair of clamps to hold that to the bench. Not cheap, but a lot cheaper than paying someone else to sharpen the chains, and a whole lot cheaper than buying a new chain every time!

It was 15° for the low this morning. Yesterday was in the mid 30's and sunny but still felt chilly with the breeze. Looks like today is going to be in the mid 40's with sun this morning and clouds this afternoon. We have a chance of rain snow mix tomorrow.

LS ... Nice truck. Hope that you enjoy it.

I'm still working on the little table. Hope to get some of that done today if the sun stays out.

Hope everyone has a good start to the week.
CWB.

I got tired of the curved cuts and decided to have my chains sharpened professionally. I forget what it cost/chain, it was not that $ the last time, and it saves me a lot of aggravation. I rotate 3 chains. When this Tree Project is done my mulch and firewood needs will be met for a long time. I see processing firewood as a ongoing project once I can walk.

4 guys, one large cherrypicker, a mechanized grapple, and a chipper/shredder that could swallow me easily on scene.

Good morning to all! Low went to 16...BBRRRR...along with the 4" of snow. It is supposed to go up to 52. I hope so it will all melt off. Hopefully the tree buds weren't damaged.

Thanks for all the + comments about the truck.

Drew sorry to hear about your friend/ Friend. Glad to hear the community / Friends came together to offer support. I did not get the truck bed "system", so I'm not sure if I would be able to adapt the divider in order to use it. Does it have to use the track system? Have fun out in the fields today with the volunteers

RNG, you are correct about the touch screen audio systems. No 'easy' way to get to what you want. I have seen worse, but it gets complicated. The truck controls aren't too bad. My son has a new Jeep Rennegade and has continuous issues with the electronic controls/accessories/ back up system. They are all controlled through the p/ecm and had to have it "reflashed" several times. It does some weird stuff. After they reflash it, seems that some gremlins get fixed then others pop up!

Riptides, time to get a bigger chainsaw? That must have made some noise when it came down.

Ron, nice "tree plaques". Have you made any clocks or furniture out of them?

Roy, have a safe trip.

Jay, if you let wifey drive you around any longer, you might get serious used to it...might have to get one of those little driving caps for her.... Good luck at PT.

Nothing really planned for today except to watch the snow melt... I'm sure something will come up.

Everyone have a great start to the week! Prayers sent.

I use the Oregon chainsaw sharpener. Does a super job. Mine is probably over 50 years old. Bought it used in the 70's from a shop going out of business.
