Had a coyote set off one of the camera this morning. Sure wish it would get after raccoon that keeps tripping camera's every night.

52 and raining...Blackberry winter. Had to wear a coat outside feeding birds this morning for the first time in at least a month. Should see 65 and more rain. Got an inch so far.

Thomas, a bear destroyed one of my cams...but got some crazy close ups during the "fight."

David, your project is a tough one...one that will give you a feeling of supreme satisfaction one you successfully complete it.

Very likely not do anything physically for a couple days, but lots of thinking.

Any chance the water drill has deviated UP and is caught on the underside of the existing concrete pad? Perhaps because there's something of a thicker footer around the perimeter?

When I bought this place, I had the septic system inspected. I didn't know where the tank was, so the fellow that did the inspection flushed a little sensor down the toilet and went around the house with a detector listening for a beep. Took him about five minutes to find the tank, and another five to find the opening. I wonder if something like that could be forced to the end of the water drill and give you an idea where it's reached. Maybe tape it to a plumber's snake or electrician's fish tape?

Did you mention you tried looking down the bore with a camera, maybe something like this? Doing so won't tell you where the end of the hole is, but it might give some insight as to what is blocking progress...

Worst comes to worse, you could just break out the part of the pad at the other end where you think the hole is, then patch it. You'd have to do that anyway if you cut the full length of the trench...

Yesterday's Mother's day meal turned out great. Everyone was happy. I have to admit, the BBQ pork chops and EJ's sausage turned out well. EJ's makes some of the best sausage I've ever eaten. Hope it doesn't get sold out and go "commercial".

We ended up having 3 desserts. Homemade coconut cream pie, Mississippi Mud Pie, and Red Velvet cake... I had a sliver of all 3. Went to bed without supper, wasn't hungry.

I have my post operative Dr appt here in a bit. Feeling much better, but with a very few strange small pains every now and then. Thanks for all the well wishes.

Young son has to take the state mandated STAR test today, I believe math, then reading tomorrow. He should wiz through them if he can stay awake. He was up last night with bad dreams....

Our place is too wet to do most anything outside. It looks like 5 of my tomato plants are going to probably die from too much water as of now. More rain on the way.

Sodamo, I'm trying to think of some way to drive an abrasive hole saw inside your pipe, kind of like a mini roto rooter.

Wng, why would a bear destroy a trail cam? Did it have human scent? Would a bear that hates human scent attack a human??? Too bad one didn't get the machete attacker first. What a horrible story.

I snapped a back axle on a dump truck years ago.

I've only broken one axle in my life. Late at night, on a cold winter night of 1956, in Marietta, OK, I got in my cold natured 1946 Chevrolet with almost 100k miles on it, parked head in, slightly downhill, in the middle of town. I started it, but when I started to back out, killed the engine, TWICE. So the third time I started it, I revved it up, popped the clutch, and snapped the axle. I got out and walked home. The next day, my Dad towed it to our service station and I learned how to change an axle.

Good morning! A clear cool 54˚F. This week the three wood working classes I signed up for will be held. Maybe they will make me feel comfortable leaving my tailgate and jig saw for the prime equipment.

Took lunch to Mom's yesterday, brought her groceries and sorted her mail. A good visit.

FireWise clearing is on standby tomorrow as we wait to see if there is more rain.

Buckeye - congratulations to your son. Does he have any job prospects lined up?

David I can't help but think that your drill angled upwards and you need to start a new hole.

Planning to continue removing old barb wire fence that we started taking down a couple weeks ago. It's lots of work but I would like a fence that does what it's supposed to do....keep my animals in and everyone else's out!

I'd like to spray weeds this morning, but I'll have to get an early start to avoid the wind. That might mean a nap after lunch.:thumbsup:

In the past year or so, increasing numbers of "homeless" nut jobs have been caught swinging machetes around in public. It seems they're easily available in army surplus and hardware stores, are cheap or easy to steal, and no permit is required. Unfortunately, most of these fine, upstanding citizens are simply disarmed and "moved along", instead of being jailed and tried for attempted murder. Wonder how long it'll be before there's blood all over one of Chico's sidewalks?

Haven't broken an axle in a car or truck (yet), but a stainless steel replacement axle did shear once on a Norton motorcycle, a fatigue failure just like on the tractor. The crack started in a groove cut for thread relief, too. Then there was the transmission lay shaft on that same bike, sheared cleanly causing no other damage to the transmission and something of a long walk. You'd think maybe the folks at Kubota would be a little smarter than those Englishmen were in the early '70s and '80s, but no.

Good Morning! It's 60°F here this morning and not a cloud in the sky. Forecast is for 83°F this afternoon. A "chamber of commerce" day for sure!

I'm waiting for our exterminator to do our quarterly treatment then get on with the day.

Planning on finishing spring cleanup of east porch with pressure washer. What did we ever do with our pressure washers? I bought my first one, at Sam's, back in the late 1980's. It was 1700 psi and about 2 gpm. Whoa! They sure are handy.

We still need a few more sunny days before I can start mowing down wild flowers (weeds with great PR) and get pastures in shape. Still many wet places all over the ranch.

That New Holland will let you get out or in with the bucket up in the air, too, but you have to do a dance on the control panel to do it. I had the tractor forks in the air last week when I hung the awning on the van, and I didn't like being under them one bit. I don't think I'd make much use of getting in or out with the bucket in the air on a skid steer, either. The Bobcat I used years ago had a lockout to prevent ingress/egress with the bucket anywhere but down, and hopping over the bucket wasn't any big deal. But I'll look into a Volvo, which is also a big construction equipment manufacturer. I see lots of their trucks on the roads around here, but most of the excavators and 'dozers are either Cat or from an Asian country.

About the only good thing the fire left behind was a bumper crop of wildflowers this year, Rick. They blossomed later than usual, but there were more of them and more varieties than ever. Every year I have mixed feelings about mowing them down, and waiting until the grass is longer than it should be for easy cutting is the result. That was especially the case this year. Hope your pastures dry out before you need a combine to get through them!

He has a job, and offers from other companies. He starts with same company I work for at end of the month. No shortage of work for a computer engineer with a clearance.

Another broken axle story. As young kid, was riding in back seat of our station wagon, when sparks started flying. The back axle broke, and the back right tire came off, folded under the corner of the car. Course the gas tank was right under me, glad it didnt drag.

Turns out the axle had a cut part way through it.

On the dump truck, i was dumping a load of dirt, had bed half up, and popped clutch to get the load to slide, and it broke. Someone in another dump truck pulled me back to the garage with a chain, probably a 20 mile trip on twisty hilly roads. If you ever been pulled with a chain, you know how jerky that gets. I started driving a 10 ton, single axle dump truck right after high school, summer job for college.

Good morning! Woke to 50° and rain, 51 now and only 57 later, rain and wind, cool for 2-3 more days. Had a Mother’s Day visit with mom, my daughter came by and stayed for a couple of hours, we needed to talk and that worked out well. Later Ellen’s daughter came by for a nice visit, then we went to dinner at a New Mexican restaurant close by, with her son and daughter in law. All in all a pretty good day, but a lot of new to get use to for an old guy set in his ways.

46°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 65° today.

Wasn't supposed to rain yesterday, but there was a fine mist falling most of the morning. Hoping we can get some drying time this week. I may end up having to cut the area between the lake and the road with the rotary cutter this year. It's already almost too high and thick for the mowers.

Spent much of the day in my studio. Time seems to advance at an unacceptably fast pace when I'm in there.

Wife's nephew and his girlfriend, who have been staying with us, had a big blowup yesterday. She packed her stuff and left, moving back to the muck we were trying to help them escape. I guess some people simply aren't interested in change for the better. I was never convinced she wanted to be there in the first place. Not sure yet what he's going to do, but I suspect he'll eventually make the same decision. He admits to making bad decisions from time to time. He is supposed to start a new job today, so maybe that'll help.

Still cheering you on here, too, David. We seem oddly fascinated by your determination to get a line under some concrete.

Glad you found a way out of that mess, RNG. Good luck in your search. It's expensive in the end, but looking sure is a lot of fun.

That is very high on my priority list and we have been doing that. I feel very good about cutting the hay this year and not hitting any surprises.

Saturday while rolling the field I seen a 4'-5' long pipe, looked like an old exhaust pipe. Made a mental note where it was so when I was done I'd go back with the 4 wheeler and get it. Well I can't find it.:banghead: It's laying in the direction I will be cutting and I know it's flat so I will not hit it, but it sure is irritating that I can't find it. After I cut I'm sure I'll find it.:thumbsup:
