Thinking on a PHD, $1000, with Auger and free delivery, no one delivers to my area FREE, no matter what they say. Shipping companies always want the EXTRA Charge ! I got a quote from a guy on Craig's List, 30+ hole, for $750, one day operation stated by Operator... could do two days with rented Skid Steer PHD and Augers for only $250 more if we do the weekend... $1000.00 !?!
Thinking it has to be easier to have someone else do the holes for less than buying the equipment and all the labor and headaches of working PHD on a Max 28.

FWIW, Tractor Supply offers a couple PHDs and lots of augers, one of them on sale this weekend, and they're a LOT less expensive than a K-buck.

I have one of their County Line models and it works well until I hit a rock. If I had a hydraulic cylinder for it to apply down force, that problem would probably be addressed. The best setup for digging post holes is a skid steer or track loader with a drill attachment, or a PHD that would mount on the FEL of a tractor. Probably be at least a K-buck to rent one for a weekend, though.

Hot down here. Decided to focus on the above ground pool's pad yesterday. Probably used almost 3/4 of a bob tail load of sand. (8-10 cu yards). It looks like a nice landing pad for a flying saucer.

I had 2 of the kids out there until 10:30 pm to get it finished. They were getting to be a bit whiny until we got close to finishing and then they got motivated. 9 and 13 year olds...

Now, its about 94F outside, and they are hounding me to set up the pool. I told them in a couple of hours once the sun goes down a bit.

Why is it when it looks mostly cloudy, that you have about 90% sun beating down on you and maybe 10% shade???

My young son found an old box I have my G. I. Joes and Major Matt Mason stashed in. He's been having fun with them.

Jay, I don't know what I'd do if I had a good sized bear running around on my place. Good thing you have a St. Bernard instead of a chihuahua. I'd be packing some "heat" and keeping the kids inside.

Got garden pond cleaned. But shortly after that it started raining. Did up a bowl of popcorn and watched Indy 500. Good race.

Hit 93 at 4:15, storms passed just south, dew point is still 70. Rode down to Chincoteague to please the boss, wasn’t as crowded as I feared.

sodamo, what are 'white sweet potatoes'?

Not as sweet as the orange ones. Got these at Safeway, but other times at other markets.

Guy up the road had 4 old tractors (beautiful condition) sitting by the road with flags on them. Wanted to take a pic on way home, and they were moved behind his gate.

Just had huge storm go thru.

Memorial Day eve IMG_2976.JPG

The 36th infantry division Jazz Band from camp Mabry preformed at the Sun City Memorial Plaza this evening, a huge turnout over a thousand.

Tomorrow morning their Concert band will preform and we will have a fly-over by Falcon Flight Here it is without the crowd.

Wife says may have been my best roast yet. Cooked hers to 150°F about 4 hours, pulled mine at 120°F at 225° fire then put them back in about 10 minutes to brown up after resting. Seasoned the corn with a bit of olive oil, pepper, & garlic salt. Microwaved 5 min before finishing on the Primo. The sweet potatoes were sweet and flavorful.

68 going to 87.

Just got a few rain drops yesterday after planting 14 tomato plants, 16 pepper plants and 6 okra. Have more flowers to plant. Running really late this year.

Don, that's a wonderful way to honor those special Americans on Memorial Day (Decoration Day). Their Sacrifice has preserved our Freedom.

Good morning all, we are enjoying a 3 day weekend too. Not a memorial event for us, ours is called the "Spring Bank Holiday".

Sorry I didn't make it clear that the picture of pink flowers I took was "Red Campion", a plant that is welcome to grow in our hay meadow, although it generally prefers more shaded places.

I guess you are lucky if you thought it was "Ragwort" as that must mean you don't have it. Although having beautiful bright yellow flowers that are much appreciated by some insects, ragwort (Senecio Jacobea) is a non-native plant that contains toxic alkaloids that persist even when it is baled up in hay or silage. Once eaten the poison accumulates over time in animal livers, often resulting in death to horses and cattle. Deer, goats pigs and chickens are also susceptible. Sheep seem able to tolerate more but they don't thrive afterwards.

Hope the kids have lots of fun in the pool Kyle, I'm sure they will appreciate it all the more for putting some effort into the construction.

I know many of you appreciate a nice garden with a pond - have you ever heard of the Chelsea flower show ? It's an annual highly competitive event where plant lovers congregate to see temporary gardens that are constructed, displayed to the public for a week, then dismantled again.

This year the "winner" of the event was to me an absolute stunner. Someone had the idea to create a pair of leaking canal lock gates as a water feature in a "garden" that looked like it had been there for decades.

Interesting video on how they built it too, if you like that sort of thing.
