Good morning!!!!

have a few hours before rain starts in so going out to mow lawn near end of lane, looking pretty raggedy and long when I came in.
That part is mostly in shade and not burned up.
Really didn't want to mow until after the next rain, like others crunchy dry lawn.
Will pull the 8hp blower behind the mower up and down the driveway to blow the pine needles back into the woods.
Another "harvest" coming in.

seems another storm coming up the coast later in the week.
And that will be another crop of pine needles until they are done.
I don't use pine straw for mulch so for me, it's all just a nuisance.
they make farm balers for this stuff so it really is a crop...
Definitely does a number on mower blades, need to sharpen more often

going to be nice going outside on a cloudy darkening day, anything to get out of the sun
After this past week of 100 degree days, I am thoroughly baked.

Good morning 65 with rain today guess I'll find some errands to run seeing I won't be cutting grass today. Had heavy rain and some minor flooding last night, lost power and internet at the lake house last night generator did it's job but wife upset no cable TV
Interesting comments on the Apollo moon landing. I remember as a kid following Gemini, Mercury then Apollo all fantastic accomplishments for a great nation. Imagine what could be done with today's technology it EVERYONE in Washington put out country first and not political drama and personal gain. Well my 2 cents anyway. I'll stop there because after 35 years of marriage I I can hear my wife saying don't talk religion or politics only gets my blood pressure up lol.
Have a good day and stay safe

Losing upper body strength.

Good Morning Everyone!!!

A rainy 60ºF for today's low; a drizzly 63ºF presently; and I anticipate clearing skies with temperatures approaching the high 60ºF's later today. I am liking the lower temps.

RNG- Good luck with the solar panel frame installation. I look forward to seeing pictures of your solarization project.

Some pics of my installation. The owners/operators of the TL8 rented the drill. They never hit rock with the 10 posts they augured. The mini ex that dug the trench back to the house found 2 boulders. And I can not dig a hole anywhere that does not have some boulder or bedrock with which to deal around here.

BEF- I am sorry to read about the lack of progress to date. Good luck with the PT and OT evaluations today. I hope to read some +'s soon. Hang in there.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers for all especially for those challenged by medical/physical issues.

BEF, keep going, long and slow is still a recovery and that's what really counts.

Just to be clear, I wasn't attempting to denigrate anyone's patriotic feelings over the moon landings.
I see nothing wrong with being proud in that at all.

Don, I hadn't realised that was the first ever all night tv broadcast for us. My dad woke me up to come down and watch it with him.

At the time I certainly never expected the non-military spin offs, such as the commercialisation of the processors that Rick mentions, becoming the very thing that I have made a living out of.

The software that made the mission possible - well that was simply making use of the inspirational ground work of Alan Turing and before him, Ada Lovelace.
I wonder where they came from ... ;) :D

I hate to pry, but have the doc's actually diagnosed the culprit? And the cause ? I hope you start getting better.

The sense I was left with, Eric, correctly or not, was the implication that the US made the moon shot just to show off, a gross show of bravado in an attempt to dominate the world stage. Remember, this was the time of the Berlin Wall, the fall of the Balkan countries to the Soviet Union, and the Cuban Missile Crisis. The US was behind in the space race, and that also meant, though it wasn't widely publicized at the time, that we couldn't deliver a nuclear warhead to Soviet territory while the Soviets were on the brink of being able to do it to us. As a child I remember watching movies of homes being disintegrated on nuclear test ranges, whole islands disappearing under a mushroom cloud, and fleets of ships being vaporized, and then diving under my school desk when the air raid sirens went off. Remember Run, Duck, and Cover? It's a heck of a way to run a world, but like it or not, Mutual Assured Destruction is still very much a part of our lives, and it was the moon shot that allowed development of the technologies that made an effective nuclear deterrent possible in the free world. It was a question of survival, and had not much of anything to do with pride.:confused3::2cents:

But as you so rightly point out, it was the commercial spinoffs that really benefited our economy and living standard. After all, who can forget Tang, the first ever sports drink?

The exact cause of GBS is unknown. I am at Johns Hopkins, they are probably the best experts on GBS. My nerves are damaged. It takes time for them to recover. I may take longer.

Very depressing losing the ability to do basic things.

Our older daughter was recently going through our old photos and found one I made with the cheap camera we had at the time. It was an attempt, and not too successful an attempt, to get a photo of the first men on the moon as it was broadcast and we were watching it on the first color TV we ever owned; a Penncrest from J.C. Penney that we had recently bought.

73 today high of 76 later. Stays below 85 for next few days. Nice.

Took youngest son to allergist yesterday. He had allergy testing done and that unfortunately came back negative. Doctor and us was hoping for some positive reactions. He has a mucus problem that we have been fighting for over 2 years. Waiting for him to out grow it or to get old enough for testing. Always suspected allergies because of family history. Doctor says she’s stumped. So she’s sending us to a pediatric pulmonologist. For lung testing and to see what’s going on. He’ll be 3 next week.

Met with the excavator operator this morning. He’ll be here next week to clear ground for the fences to the chicken coops. Will be bringing a 315L Caterpillar in. Looks like we’ve got about 40 hours of work planned out for him. While on our walk around he had me call the local power company to inform them of a dangerous tree. It’s big, living rotten, and right on their power line. Said he wasn’t comfortable messing with it, and to have them top it below their lines. Then he’d get it out. Power company said they’d come evaluate it.

Drew when’s delivery?

Eric, we didn’t throw money at the project, we carefully built our way, step by step and we accomplished an amazing feat that no other country on earth was able to duplicate. It was done by exceptional people from all over the world with a single mindedness not often seen. It was done out of a necessity to avoid becoming subservient to the USSR. Was there pride involved? You bet your @$$ there was, still is. But that was only part of the equation.
Now if you want the best submarine, fighter plane or cruise missile who are you gonna turn to, not India, Russia, France or anyone but the USA. Give us a goal and a reason and watch what happens. Are we perfect, no but we get closer than most. And we pay the bills and often provide flesh and blood to defend those that won’t even pay their contracted NATO shares.
We might be big and sometimes boastful, but the free world better thank God for the United States of America!

Eric appears to be a very smart, well educated and glib member here.

I believe his comment was meant somewhat tongue in cheek and don’t believe he meant to offend anyone.

My earlier comment was made in good fun as well and I prefer to leave it that way.

We need many more members like him from the UK.
