Good morning! 64 now, 90 later. No rain in the forecast until next week. Things are dry. We could use some rain.

Other than the clover, grass has stopped growing. So not sure what I am gonna get into today. I will find something I am sure. But reasonably certain it will involve shade.....

a real scorcher here, never got below 78 last night and going up to at least 95. Looks like the heat is all the way up to Roy also.

interesting night last night. Woken up at 11pm by rustling of keys in door, and member of staff poking their head in. This has never happened
since I've been here at night. Can I help you? Oh just checking on patients. Really? Now either they are missing someone, or this person has their
instructions messed up, or if I apply worst case motivation, she was getting into my room for all the wrong reasons. Needless to say I keep my wallet on nightstand
in bedroom. I told her I was the last person she needed to check on and she backed out. Annoying, took me hours to get back to sleep. Going to ask mgmt on Monday what the deal is.

Don't know why I keep wasting time on it

a piston ring. Bet you could count on one hand those of us with those skills.

My Gravely garden tractor made it to final destination in PA, my close friend who has several walk behind Gravelys already.
Financially ridiculous to spend 800 bucks to ship a 2500 dollar garden tractor but pride of ownership is the issue here, my friend will
take extremely good care of it. I restored it down to the frame and just didn't want to sell it to anyone. And using Uship I was abused because
final tally was 915 dollars after they added undeclared processing fees and charged me for freight insurance I did not need. What a racket...
The Gravely has some metal tears/cracks near mounting bolts of seat, told my friend our first project together was to weld them properly.
this is the same friend that fabricated a new air filter housing out of a Bertie's peanuts jar (very thick plastic) by putting wire mesh/steel wool in jar, and it looked
outstanding when he was done on a walk behind tiller. His father was an airplane mechanic and I know where he got his skills.

playing phone tag with rv campground owner, hope to get him this morning and pin down move in date. Can't wait to get out of here. And last night, after being totally flustered by being woken up, found a huge water bug in shower. Find bugs every week in here. So far no bugs in rv, rubber seals seem effective but I'm sure bugs will get in; just need to be very careful to clean up kitchen and not leave sugar or other edibles on counter. I hate bugs.

enjoying my decaf coffee, will follow it up with big glass of water. Had my shower, my not much hair left on top and my skin is dry and flaky. Hopefully hair
will start growing back in later this year. What's interesting is how easy it is to shave now, not much facial hair at all anymore. I'm still on the same razor after almost ten shaves, could never do that before. Facial hair was consistency of copper wire, not any more...

I stopped eating pizza when I realized how much salt and fat was in it, but would get a plain spinach pizza and then add my
own toppings. I love pizza, it doesn't love me...one of those foods on every top 10 lists of what not to eat. But then so is hamburger.
Everything in moderation. I think making a pizza from scratch, dough included, would be fun. But we aren't used to taking so much time
to prepare food, convenience has won out. Now I surely have the time...really looking forward to ability to cook my own food in rv, even with very limited
counter space. Trying to think about what I need to stock rv pantry and make one final big Publix/Instacart order before I go. Stuff like minced garlic, cooking oil, etc.

Hi all

Itç—´ july in Carolina, nuff said. We had gone some 90 hours with out rain, possibly a record for 2020 but, for once on this project of mine, I got lucky.

Been 1 year and way too much $ fighting a combination of orange mud, which I knew all about and living in a rain forest, which caught me off guard.

I致e read the only 途ain forest in the continental us is in the pacific north west, makes sense, I lived there, yup. Well, We got one here. I don稚 know technically how much rain you gotta get but there痴 always reality. Rains every 50 hours.

Anyway, poured 3000 sf of concrete yesterday! Boys got here about 6:30 am, 9 guys, 4 1/2 truck loads, and weæ±*e finished by 3. The cement trucks were all Oshkosh Trucks. I worked there in the 70s. I started watering the slabs, house and garage/shop/apt, but at about 7pm the skyç—´ opened up and we got slammed. The storms here are very dramatic, lost power, went to bed.

To me, that痴 the end of phase 1. 2600 ft drive, 400 tons gravel, so far, 1 acre pad of orange mud, 16kvolt wire 4 ft under drive, 2600 ft 2 in water main (120 psi!), 2600 ft DSL internet line buried. No tv yet, been 4 months, don稚 miss it at all, no sports....... and finished foundation work on 2 structures. whew!

Side note....
I知 single and alone, by choice but.....while I was doing all the above, I was also doing everything your wife does, most my married buddies have no clue, probably much better off.

Had a guy scheduled to mulch 3 acres of weedy trees this morning. He has this monster bush hog looking machine that he pushes with a big skid steer. It has a big cylinder which I guess has different blades etc, you end up with no stumps and all mulch. He said goes thru a 6 inch tree l8e butter. Kid said over 40 gallons per minute flow. He also said it cost $15 K? The rain got me again, had to cancel the mulching but, it helped the concrete.

I read, if you can somehow keep concrete wet for 20 days it doubles the strength. Some commercial jobs require you put down burlap and keep it wet. I went with 4000 psi mix so I知 good either way but still trying to keep it wet. Also oversized footings, rebar in footings ( not required) and wire in the slabs ( not required). I guess nowadays, They put fiber glass strand in the mix and that meets code. I like to add wire and rebar. $$$

Been a long long long year!

My nephew plays for the Washington Redskins...can I say that? Wonder what the new name will be?

Drinking first cup of coffee. 60ｰ with light fog in low lands. Heading to 91ｰ with lots of sunshine. Shopping was good. Everyone wearing mask and social distancing. Visit to friends place went well. They have lots of remodeling to do. Plan to stay in and do house work today.
Turkey keeps checking out the Rodents favorite area. I think she wants to nest there.
Covid cases in my county (Oakland) reached 10,016 yesterday. Deaths are 1073. Michigan is getting about 500 new cases each day. Deaths are less than 20 each day.

Some make a small dam out of soil around the outside of the slab and then flood the whole area. Sounds like you will have one tough building when you are finished !

I am fortunate to have 2 local gun shops, the closest is owned by a really talented gunsmith who does work for others in the trade. Yesterday I was there to pick up a replacement silencer for my 22lr and had a bit of luck with my long term search for a .17 hornet. Some time ago I tried to buy a Weihrauch in that calibre from the other gun shop because they are agents for that brand. They tried but were unable to get one as the UK distributor would only import air rifles from Germany, they had "temporarily" stopped dealing in anything centrefire, blaming it on the uncertainty of regulations caused by Brexit. This situation dragged on for ages, meanwhile other distributors were happily continuing to deal with other European manufacturers, but alas non of them made a 17 hornet apart from Anshutz, which to my mind was way over priced.

Sitting in the gun shop yesterday was a brand new Ruger m77 in 17 hornet, one of a batch of 5 that all had barrels bent when sent for proofing (no one at the proof house is saying how that happened, maybe they were packed next to Don's kitchen cabinet before they left America ). The gunsmith is about to fit replacement barrels, I came along at just the right time to pick whatever length barrel I desire. The trigger was heavy, I think the ex-factory litigation free non-adjustable setting is 5lb, but he is going to take that down for me too, all for much less than the normal retail price. :dance1:

Good morning! The weather is noticeably cooler this morning, got a little chill, 74˚F heading to only the low 90s.

David that is some nice looking top soil, what a deal!

Kyle, projects take on a life of their own and they become a game of challenges that are hard to resist.

Mostly, how much land will be available? Our CA lets us lease out the land behind our yard (30') for $1 a year with a few stipulations. Irrigation would be the first improvement to grow anything. That lease out project is on hold to see if I really want to have more maintenance. Now I just keep it mowed also.

No rain here for a couple of weeks and we are in phase one of water conservation after using 85% of our water supply for 3 days straight. That means we have limitations on watering the yards, certain days and time. My auto sprinkler system is alway set on phase one limitations so no action needed on my part.

Going to experiment with some different plant based ice creams this week. Most start off with frozen overripe bananas but frozen Cherries, peaches and mangos are also on the list.

That’s sounds like a fun hike. I always wanted to hike the entire AT. Guess I won’t be doing that.
We are going on a drive to PA today. Might stop by the place I was camping when I got GBS, Pine Grove Furnace the midpoint of the AT. Usually some thru hikers there this time of year, doing the ice cream challenge.

That’s a lot of flies.

Need to get out of bed though. Was up till midnight, woke up at 1, couldn’t sleep so stayed awake till 4 or so.

Good Morning Everyone! 80F already this morning. Went to the shop early to cut and drill some steel while it was cool enough to work. Tomorrow morning will go do some welding.

Update on crazy dude. The FBI is investigating him now and he has not bothered the wife in the last few days. Hopefully that will be a solution.

Chores are done...really, the grass was too wet to mow but I did anyway. Lot of clumped grass, but that'll dry out by day's end, I think...
Might pressure was the mower to get all that wet grass off (especially under the mower deck), than re-lube everything if I get ambitious...

Temperature isn't real bad as I type this (0953 and 77 degrees), but we'll be shutting up the house within an hour or so.

Good morning to all! Low at 52, very nice, going for a high of 88. Monsoon seems to be kicking in next week, 50-60% chances of showers each day all week. That would be really nice if it happens. Looked like we got a little sprinkles overnight.

Drew, sorry to hear about the nighttime intruder.... odd that you have been there for a while and now they are making checks? Sounds fishy to me....

Looks like our extreme heat wave has ended... at least for the time being. There is still the rest of July and August to contend with.

Lots of stuff going on here at the homestead... getting a couple of spare bedrooms put together for 5 family members coming in for a 78th birthday party for my MIL next week. We have to get mattresses / beds set up, food getting prepared, bunch of stuff. One son's vehicle has to get some work done (timing chain), so throw that into the mix. We should have enough hands on deck for help.

Good morning. It was a very nice 72° first thing this morning but already up to 84° on the way to 92°. There’s a small chance of rain next few days. We’ve not had a drop in nearly a month.

This morning’s job was installing a new air pump on our aerobic septic system. I had an alarm a few days ago and thought I could just replace the diaphragms. No such luck .. when I removed the cover .. I discovered it had already let the smoke out so, ordered a new one online. I went to next larger pump this time.

I finally finished all the hydraulic work on tractors, grapples, etc. and now everything works correctly on both tractors.

Good evening all. 76F for the start, partly cloudy, light breeze. Light wind day, Sky cleared off and high temp was 98F feels like 107F Walked with wife this morning, then bike ride. Adjustments made worked well. Think I set a personal record for elapsed time around the lake., average speed was 18.4 mph. Still trying to get update on boat cover repair, and might be able to buy golf course access land and will be able to irrigate it, I already mow it. Grilled some brats for dinner and helped wife make spaghetti sauce. After dinner did some prepping for Saturday ride.

Good luck on the land purchase. 18.4 is fast. Did you guys make sauce with home grown tomatoes? I bought some jalapenos and cilantro to try and entice my wifey into making some cold process fresh salsa.

My son had 2 of his 10 year old friends spend the night over here. I got up and made a big batch of pancakes, some with blueberries. One of the boys ate his pancakes dry and plain. No butter, no syrup. And he ate more than anybody.


Don and Drew, yes it has taken on a life of it's own. Haha. We'll see. I will give it one more try. Piston ring design and material is everything.


It's already hot. I need to change oil on commuter car.


Drew, hope you can get a good spot. You might have to move to the rv camp initially, then let the owner you are interested in a better spot, if available. I wish I was in a position to have purchased some of your stuff you were off loading. sorry about your sleep. Hope the person wasn't up to clandestine activities... My wifey would have trouble wrapping her head around the "not like chocolate" thing. We use ghirardelli chocolate chips in our cookies. Soooo good. Oh, and real butter. No fake stuff.

We canned 12 pints of salsa from the home grown tomatoes. Three are gone already.
