We have had mandatory mask in Texas since July 3 or face a $250 fine. I have seen 100% wearing mask. However just yesterday I started seeing a lax of wearing the mask correctly. Some noses are exposed or the mask just covering the chin. One lady had the mask sitting an inch away from her face, I think she had wire instead of elastic holding it in place around her ears. Expect to see compliant but noneffective wearers of the mask as time passes . . . .

Not a bad day...never even saw close to 80...mostly 75-78 and cloudy...some rain, but that didn't last too long.
Drank a couple beers when i got home to wash down 2 ham and cheese sandwiches.
Tomorrow, I get a cat scan on my chest and an ultrasound of my aorta. No food or liquids after midnight, so I'd better have another beer. I can do without the food, but I'd surely like water...

Just picked up more branches from a really violent storm that just came through. Power was in and out. Enough that all the directv boxes reformatted themselves. Of course the one branch that was hanging from the previous storm....is still hanging. Other branches around it came down. It figures.
Looks like a couple of RTV trips to the burn pile are in the plans for the AM.
Wife says should have got a grapple for the tractor. I told her it is not too late for that. Major hint.

I guess Mother Nature balances things out. I gotta check the pool for water level. I like not taxing the well for the pool refill.

Day started with no hot water. Breaker tripped again, about 4th time in the last yr the water heater breaker has tripped.

Storms came thru this afternoon so I stayed later at work. Was still lightning lots when I left.

On way home was 72°. After a couple 101° days that was cool. Got more much needed rain at home. Electric off up the road, they were repairing lines. My house fed from other direction.

Had first green beans from our garden for supper. Wife picked beans, green peppers, 1 cucumber this morning. The pole beans are not doing well, beans were from the blue lake bush beans. Think I’ll go back to just bush beans.
Got green tomatoes but none ripe.

Is it legal for governors to mandate masks? Or has legislators passed a law ?

I wear one at work when others come around. For the most part I only deal with a couple people, usually work alone.

78F and mostly cloudy @ 22:00. Band of showers to the west and we should be able to get some decent rain out of it, if the radar is any indication. Should know in the next hour or so.

Got concrete slab behind garage raked and hosed off, compost tumbler emptied and hosed off, and then worked on removing the nails whose heads got cut off when we removed the siding to extract the honeybee nest. Probably got that 90% done. Started working on removing old caulk ... going to require the heat gun. Cleaned out and hosed off a plastic tote.

Finalized and placed Menards order. Got notification around 20:00 that it was ready for pick up.

Jeremiah dropped off new phones and got info transferred over ... after a couple of hiccups (not his fault) Still have to install the screen protectors and put phones in their cases.

After that The Woman ran down to Subway and grabbed a couple of sandwiches for dinner. I got the Cold Cut Combo (which I love), she went with a Meatball Sub ... :thumbsup:

After dinner I went out on the deck in the cool of the evening and started removing the spindles ... and the top rail ... just to see how easy it was going to be (very easy) ... got a baker's dozen removed, but still many left to go.

Good evening all. 75F this morning, mostly clear, light breeze. Light wind day, storms in area but no rain here, high temp was 93F feels like 99F. Low rain chances in 10-day, but not optimistic on getting some. Men's Meeting first thing this morning, wife did not walk w/o me . Bike ride this morning, Schwinn now over 6K miles since rescue. working on buying the access plot, POA wants more than I want to pay, real estate guy no show tonight.

Thomas, guy hit a major road bridge in STL before move with big excavator. Dented bridge I-beam had to be shut down for month or 2 to fix. truck hauling the excavator came to sudden stop for some reason :confused2:

I suspect that it is (legal), and that it is contemplated under Ohio law pertaining to the Department of Health and the Governor's Powers during Public Emergencies.

I wear one at work when others come around. For the most part I only deal with a couple people, usually work alone.

I generally wear one when I am out in public in places where I would encounter others at a relatively close distance (in stores, restaurants, etc.)

I do not wear one outside here at the house, or while I'm driving somewhere.

Glad you are getting rain, although I'm sure you could have done without the lightning and downed trees.

We've had mandates on a county by county basis, depending on what the status of COVID-19 infections were ... kind of similar to what your Governor is doing.

The county I live in came under the mandate within the last week.

I wish I could report that I've seen 100% mask wearing but that has not been the case.

Once you get a grapple .. you'll never know how you've lived without one. You'll need a 3rd function solenoid valve also and I can vouch for the WR Long. I've got them on both tractors and a prior tractor.

The Everything Attachment's Wicked grapples are a real value IMHO. I've got a 73" WG for utility tractors, on my 55 HP tractor and an 84" Blue Diamond on my 100 HP tractor.

I went with this one to get the 42.5" jaw opening primarily for picking up brush and trimmed tree limbs.

Flagged down the junior woodchucks today as they were cruising through and got their story. A couple of neighbor kids who live one house apart. Seemed nice enough. Likely that they didn't see the signs, given the route they were using.

The guy who used to live in-between them (and directly behind us) had a problem with them traversing the gas line right of way to go to each other's houses apparently and (supposedly) felled a tree to prevent them from going over his property. He was pretty much an old stick-in-the-mud ... but he's no longer an issue, in this world at least. They said his wife was very nice and is in the process of selling the house.

I told them they could go ahead and ride on our property to get to each other's houses - but to pay attention and just be mindful of widow makers when they are riding through the woods.

Gave them my name and cell number to give to their parents.

Nothing says love and commitment like buying a headstone with both your names on it for your 34 anniversary. (today)

This two week covid vacation is costing us a lot of money.
New bed/mattress. All new bedroom furniture. New hard wood floors ordered for the un finished part of the house. Air conditioner repair, headstone,furnace and fuel tank repair,paint for walls! etc.etc.etc.Phew! LOL.
No more shopping or I won't be able to retire. Not really all planned and saved for long ago.

Air Compressor Saga....

Work, stardate 7/21/2020, Ingersoll Rand Scroll compressor UP6-30. I spread out some painters plastic drop cloth and used a HF radiator cleaner/blower (which would hardly spray any chemical even with the adjustment screw all the way out...). and I commenced to spraying out the radiator/intercooler. It was full of oily dusty gunk. Before I started, I sprayed it liberally with WD40 to help break down the greasy grime...then I scrubbed it with a soft brush. Next I used some simple green and the sprayer and it was an hour of huge mess, but I got it clean. The intercooler uses about 2/3 of it's area to cool the oil coolant, and 1/3 to cool the air prior to going into the tank. So after putting it all back together, there is a good delta T between the line in and line out. As of this afternoon, I've ran it about 15 hours and it seems good. There is a little bit of "bearing rattle/noise" when the scrolls unload after a pressure up cycle, then it goes into idle mode, until the pressure drops and the switch kicks it back in load mode. I told management to start planning a doomsday plan, and not to spend any more big money towards this unit. They are happy as of today. I am turning it off at the end of the day right now, but next week I need to leave it on 24 hours a day for some testing on a project.

Home, Speedaire (Not ready for prime time yet): So I get home yesterday and noticed the speedaire tank at about 85psi, and wondered why hadn't it kicked in to pump back up??? After checking things out with a multimeter, it appears the motor is kaput. Any electric motorheads out there? Dayton 2 hp, single phase, 240v. Pretty sure it had mud daubers' nests in it when I started it up a couple of weeks ago. I took the fan belt off, and it won't even take off on it's own. No hum, like if the capacitor wasn't giving a boost... Could it be the centrifugal switch? It has a red reset button, but it does nothing. Maybe the reset button itself is fouled up. It spins freely. The pressure switch was giving it 2 legs of 120volts, and the ground was tested. Anyway, I brought home a large bodied 1hp Baldor that can be wired 120 or 240v, just to see if it will pull the compressor load. It did it fine on 120volt. Rated for 100% duty too. I will re-wire to the high voltage, and connect it to the pressure switch. This motor had very little time on it. They were going to throw it away in a "too much stuff, not enough room" purge.

Buzzbomb: Still need to indicate in the aluminum cylinder and bore it again on the mill. Then make a teflon compression ring.

Somewhat surprisingly got that Hilo section flailed. I usually take 2 days for that area, but had a really good day, just hot and dusty. Of course to be honest there are two sloped areas that would take about another hour, but might forego this time around. The slopes are one side of old cane road and the other a conservation berm. Can only mow by repetitive backing upslope.
Really pleased with the results, first time with flail since left in disarray by the sweet potato farmer. Still a few more rocks to be picked up.

Good morning, rain just starting and expected to hang around for the rest of the day. Even at low altitude there is plenty of wind to keep the reading down if I had one of Wng's skunk meters.

RNG, I can't think of a reason why you can't add an anode if there isn't one there already. Simple lumps of magnesium with bolt on tabs are often much cheaper per kilo of effective material than probes. Of course they only protect the part of the tank that is below the waterline, so yet another incentive, in addition to fighting fires and not flipping over on bends, to keeping the tank filled up.

My self employed engineering work has ground to a halt thanks to this virus. Like Phil, I had intended to finish in October anyway, now I have the added bonus of a few more months to adjust to retirement before winter arrives. Only dilemma is should I start another project to fill my time, or should I try for the novelty of finishing one in less than a year instead ?
