Sparrow trap is working good. 2 more yesterday. Putting squirrel deterrent up created a place to put some feed that attracts them. Got 2 more yesterday.

Just another one of thos things I've learned on TBN. I'd never even heard of a sparrow trap before.

I forgot to add, that after getting me and the generator caught it the rain storm, I looked on the radar history, and the t-storm really was a pop-up...it popped up like they say...on the first screen of the radar video, it wasn't there, the next it was and connected the north and the south storms for just 5 minutes.

Got everything stowed in rv, went to start up engine before pulling slide in and ignition key missing from key ring. ?? Big key...
Ok, I have a spare set. Ignition key missing from spare set too. ????? Tore the whole rv apart looking in every nook and cranny, pockets of clothing, jackets
etc with no joy. So I'm just plain stuck here and no trip to get propane. Getting replacement keys should be a real treat, assume I have to go to MB for them.

And then got email from next older brother saying that despite all my requests for them not to do this, assisted living home office billing pulled another 7 grand out of my brother's checking account for August. GRRRR. Bet this takes a while to correct. I suggested to my brother he call his bank on Friday and have the withdrawal blocked, but guess he was pretty distracted by his health issues and it didn't get done. Annoying, that's a lot of money...

So I've put the rv back together and will await the bad weather coming in after lunch today. Gust forecast raised to 70mph tomorrow morning, not good.

Good Morning!!!! 75F @ 5:00AM. Abundant sunshine. High around 100F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.
Looks like the Isaias picked up a little steam this morning, regaining hurricane strength with 70 MPH winds. The storm track now predicts landfall in northern South Carolina or southern North Carolina by tonight, passing through to Virginia and points north overnight.

Almost like you had your very own thunderstorm yesterday, Billy! Do you have your genny set up for dual fuel?

Will you be able to see through the raindrops without wiper blades, David? Just one generator test so far, just after installation finished. I need to poke around in the Auto Generator Start module and get the exercise runs scheduled. They're supposed to be weekly, with a full load run once a month.

Another reason for staying under 100HP when I settled on the M62, Rick,, is I couldn't find one that had a hydro transmission. Yeah, I'm spoiled.:laughing: Hope the storm damage isn't too extensive.

I saw a video where a fellow flew his Mini several miles along an abandoned railway viaduct, over water, Ron. Pretty sure that the radio link is between the controller and the drone, and WiFi/Bluetooth are between phone/pad and controller.

I'm glad you still get some kind of comfort from your trenches, Thomas. I'm at the point where I have nothing good to say about trenches anymore.:irked:

Filled the tank on the firetruck up about half way yesterday, and thank goodness there were no leaks. Well, at least not in the tank. I found that the drain valve is stuck open, and lots of components, including the pump, are plumbed into it. Gave it a shot of Kroil and will let it sit with :crossfingers: Also had a little trouble getting the PTO to turn the pump; I think it was stuck from sitting so long. Just couldn't get the clutch all the way out without stalling the engine. Let it sit while I had lunch, and it broke loose. It seems that the ol' girl doesn't like sitting idle, and will need regular exercise. Ran out one of the hose reels and shot some water around, but wasn't able to build much pressure, probably due to the leaking drain valve. But it was enough to get the rust and dirt flushed off most of the driveway, and a good step forward that I didn't find anything else broken. Ran back over the procedures manual I've been working on for it, adding a few photos and clearing up some of the descriptions. Put the pages in protective sleeves and added them to a three ring binder that I'll leave on the front seat of the truck.

Several wildfires in the area over the weekend, one of them yesterday was just a few miles up the canyon. Fortunately the crews got on them quickly and had them under control in just a few hours. Also got the last of the current crop of fallen tree branches cleaned up out at the mailbox, but now I see that the tree they're coming from has a split running up its trunk and probably won't remain standing for much longer. I'm hoping it doesn't come down until we get some rain, just don't want to be running a chainsaw when everything's so dry right now.


Sitting on the back porch yesterday afternoon, minding my own business sipping on a margarita, when I got a visit from the beggars. Both of 'em were on my feet, one half way to my knee, looking for a handout. Unfortunately, the little box was empty, so I gave 'em an ice cube instead. One of 'em (Stubby) went right over to it and started to sip the melted water, the other one, which I've started to call Tasty, started nipping at him. It nipped my finger earlier when it didn't find a meal worm on it!. Hence the name. :laughing:

My generator is dual fuel, but I've only run it on LP...hoping to avoid the starting problems I've heard others have with old gummy gas in the carb. It only puts out 8100 Watts peak on LP vs. 9000 gas, but I mainly used it to keep refrig and freezer food from spoiling, to make coffee, and to run the microwave oven so don't need the extra power from gasoline. With a diesel mower, I don't keep much gas around except in the winter, for the saw and splitter.

Glad you got your firetruck on a good trajectory.

Billie, look at the sudden downpour as helping you out.... you got the generator test done, AND got it washed! I have been procrastinating pulling out mine and giving it a test... maybe you gave me a good reminder...

Randy, great time spent with the G-kids. I bet they enjoyed it too from the looks of it.

Bird, it is strange how some dogs like to ride and others don't. We used to have a German Shepherd that loved to ride..would run in circles around the vehicles trying to get in. Over the years, probably 5 more dogs that hated riding. Our Schnauzer Max that we have now, loves to ride, if you whisper "ride", he tilts his head, then runs to the door.

Rng, sounds like the fire truck project is moving forward nicely. Are you going to service all the valves or was that done already and I missed it? The lizards are funny. You better get stocked up on mealworms before there is a revolt! We have had a banner year for the amount of lizards here... they stay about 4-5 feet away though.... not too friendly...

Hopefully the park bench slats are dry and it can be assembled. I might try to make a dump run today. The tractor also needs greasing, so that might get done.

after being told by MB dealer I had to drive to Raleigh in person with ID to order replacement keys, and then when they came in, had
to have rv towed all the way to Raleigh to program keys, I just knew this was going to be an insane cost. One last thought, I emailed my prior
next door neighbor, and asked him if by any chance he had the ignition key. He laughed and said I had it in my pocket. Say what?....
well....the big black fob which I thought was a dumb item with just lock and unlock on it has a concealed compartment where if you push the little button
on it, out pops the ignition key. Geeeezzzzz. He had tucked it away, which I never had... sure felt like an idiot, but a very relieved idiot.
too late to go get propane so I'll just stay put.

first rain coming in, heavier stuff after lunch. Forecast is now expected to be a minimal Cat 1 hurricane, with gusts to 70+mph. This should be an interesting night
tonight. Rv is all chocked up and I'm in the lee of three larger motorhomes on three sides, which should help block some of the wind.
Path of storm is just West of me, basically right over my head.

Good morning 71 going up to 89 - tonight starts our flood warnings and it looks like we will get more than 3" of rain in the next 24 hours.
Might see another one or two dead ashes drop, these are at edge of forest, they are dangerous as the EAB have eaten them away and some of the wood in the trunks is rotted and can split when trying to cut like the last one that split about 15 feet up

LS - can you wear a knee brace, when my knee gets bad I wear the brace when I am doing any work, otherwise I just take it easy
Ron-sorry about the bees- have exterminator coming back as both nests on my house just moved when he hit them with Tempo-at least not in my doorway anymore so I can go out. I get stung every year by them-2 stings is not fun...
RNG-sounds like a lot of progress-hope valve doesn't give you too much trouble

Drew-prayers for your brother-hopefully just a regular cold-stay safe - padding for cabinets looks good and glad your key is found

spent Saturday tracing out the leaking pipe for the pool. Still have not found leak- digging by hand is getting old.


and dog helped me celebrate birthday- had fresh lobster and the wife baked me cookies!

Glad you found your keys Drew! Do you have enough propane to get through the storm? There will probably be power outages....

Ken, I have 2 knee braces. I will occasionally wear them, but they usually only make it feel better for about 30 minutes. After they are removed, the pain usually gets worse and / or range of motion gets decreased. My orthopedic surgeon recommended to not wear a brace... he really tries to avoid having any of his patients wearing them.
Did the pup at least get a piece of cake?

So for me kinda like wearing a band aid, use only when necessary.

Fortunately, that was the only fall that I have had due to the knee going out. Most of the time I just have a little stumble when standing up. I think it was just coincidental that it went out while on the steps. Hopefully it was just an isolated incident.

I hope you can find that leak soon! That's a lot of digging.....

I've been meaning to get a propane kit for my Honda generator, just haven't gotten a round tuit. Did you convert your generator yourself, and if so, what kit did you use?

I bought it as a dual fuel...one of the features I was wanting since it rhymes ...a Costco deal...Champion...4 years old and original battery...I guess I need to worry about that soon, although it cranked right up yesterday after no use or charging for 18 months. Actually, I bought it planning to only run propane, and bought extra 20 lb tanks...handy to refill at TSC, and use in our grill.

77F and partly cloudy @ 11:45. High for the day predicted to hit 82F, with a 30% chance of a thunderstorm (according to WU, 40% if you believe WB ... )

Spent all day yesterday working on garage clean up and organization, good progress made ... :thumbsup:

Water softener salt delivery due today, need to clear a path so he can get to the door ... :laughing:

Hope to get auger storage rack finished up today ... along with more progress on garage.

Probably wash off mower deck too ... since it looks like going to have to mow fairly soon.

Maybe get that rear tire on Simplicity handled as well.

Other than that, take it as it comes ...
