Back from successful Dr appointment. He was very pleased with the progress, reiterated that it takes time, took her off her eye drops, and indicated she will likely require glasses, reading at least. Back in another month.

Inside lunch at our favorite local Japanese restaurant.

Back home, unpacked and stuff put away, but raining is not promising for painting today.

Well, another pop up shower this afternoon, I’ve lost track of the rainfall since Tuesday. I mowed on Monday and it looks like it’s been 2 weeks. These warm humid nights and storms have the grass shooting up.

Drew, I have some medical advice for you, be your own advocate and listen to your doctors, while reading everything you can find regarding your situation.

68F and clear here, overnight low predicted to be ... 58F ...

Leak on loader aux hydraulics for grapple appears to be holding ... no drips ...

Simplicity still not cooperating though. Jacked it up and squirted the shaft the starter drive is on with WD-40, tapped on the starter, and poked the drive with screwdriver. When the key is turned to "Start" I get a single click and no spin. Think the drive is stuck out on the shaft, extended. Starter may have a dead spot. Dunno ...

One set of mower blades for MMM sharpened and balanced and one bent blade straightened with the rosebud. I just set it on top of the other two unbent blades, observed where the bend appeared to be and then set the center on top of a piece of 1 x 3 (steel) and heated up the area where the bend was until it was red/orange and let gravity and the weight of the end of the blade pull it back into place. It's very close. I let it cool normally. Will wait for our resident metallurgists (RNG and Kyle) to opine before I put it into service though.

Scraped more weeds off the pile of previously screened soil pile. Bumble bees are still there.

Pulled soil screener out of the dirt and weeds it was stuck in. Wooden frame and screen looks like it needs redone. Added screen to Menards order.

Grabbed the two smaller augers out of the barn and brought them over to the house. Did some work on the hooks and retaining chains.

More work done on incorporating cut grass into compost pile this evening after dinner.

Hope everyone had a great day.

David, progress on Sophie's eye sounds good. We all heal a bit slower than when we were 12.

Mostly, understand the heat taking away your weed eating motivation. I peeled back one end of the chicken wire anti chicken garden fence, so that I could get the tractor in there. Ended up just smoothing out the sandy area we plant potatoes. Need to mow it, then let the stuff die, then box blade it and scarify it to break up the hard clay. I'm with you on eating crappie. Best fresh water fish IMO.

RS, you should be ok. Blades are made from medium carbon steel, so that they don't shatter.

Topps, you could send me some rain. We have such cracks that, it will take 10" to heal them. I don't know how thick the clay strata is here, but I know it goes down many feet.

Had some friends over to visit tonight. Ordered a bunch of pizza. A different friend gave me a bottle of Dancing Bee honey/blackberry wine. My oh my was it good. Very sweet though for you wine connoisseurs.

Blackberry Melomel - Dancing Bee Winery

Anyway, my buddy played guitar for a while. He's really good, so it's a treat. I was telling him about my online friends from all around the world. Kids played and swam, women walked and talked....all good.

So my daughter told me there was a squirrel in the pecan tree in the front. We got the chihuahua all fired up to let her chase it, and just as we opened the door, one of the chickens stormed over and chased that darn squirrel, wings out for balance and pecking at the tail, about 10 yards to the big oak tree, along with the fired up chihuahua on a similar but different chase vector, just two steps behind...I almost fell over laughing. Surely could have won a $10,000 video prize IMO. :)

Got a right nice chuckle outa that one, Kyle. Too bad you didn't have yer phone handy to snag a video.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Kinda depends on the composition of the steel, and what kind of heat treatment they got to begin with. Worst that can happen is that the blade won't hold an edge, and will be easier to bend next time it finds trouble, but I don't think you need to worry about one part of it breaking off. If it were mine, I'd run it, but make sure friends and family were a long ways out of casting distance...:confused3:

Sounds like a golden memory, Kyle. One to cherish, and figure out how to make more of in the future!

Thought I’d share about my iPad change over.

I think it is less about IOS security, more how individual companies choose to implement.

Thankfully many things just let IOS security do its thing and accept userid and password as stored.
Others not so much.
Some remember userid but want password each visit.
Many balk at not knowing a new device, but are ok once you enter the authentication code from a trusted device.
Others want the 2 factor code plus your password.
Others want the 2 factor code, your password, plus answer a security question.
If you have multiple accounts with same institution, it’s a total procedure each account. At least IOS remembers they are related.
I really love the ones that ask for your password then tell you you need a new one, the new one has to meet a list of rules and can’t in anyway resemble anything previously used.
Fun and games

good morning all
looks like a cooler day today, 72 out now going up to 86 which is pretty nice for August
Last night just as neighbors came home and I could hear their voices, the heavens opened up (I admit I smiled at the good timing...)
and we had a half hour thunderstorm with a half inch of rain. No shortage of rain here for sure.

Finally going to do a little socializing for dinner tomorrow night, meeting lady friend at her house on Pamlico River, and I am picking up takeout Italian
for dinner. She sounded exhausted, still picking up sticks in her yard and powerwashing mud/crud out of her first floor basement. I did not offer to help, but
will bring the food and wine. She has multiple kids and grandkids in area, they can help her clean up the mess... We will sit out on her porch ten feet away from each other, and I will use my 3M N95 mask and we will be very careful. We are both huggers and know that won't do any more. I have to be very careful but she is a good friend and we both need a little socializing. First in four months for me. And my first glass of wine in that time. She is the retired 2nd grade schoolteacher I bought/finally gave to her a Cub Cadet LT2 mower as she had nothing and her push mower died. Now she happily drives this bright yellow lawn tractor she calls Bumblebee. Every day is an opportunity for kindness and so I know I did well here...

There was a second method to my madness here...taking my laundry over to do in her washer/dryer. So far I have avoided the coin op laundry which I'm betting are
not well sanitized and bug heaven. Maybe I can laundry mooch from someone once a week...

Randy, good advice, thanks. I learned to be an advocate taking care of Nadene, have seen malpractice committed on both of us now, Trust But Verify. Thank goodness so much is online, with WebMd, Cleveland Clinic, etc. They do a huge number of tests on me and I look up all the acronyms to see what they mean. Have a phone visit with endocrinologist on Tuesday and have a few questions for him. They put you on meds and then no one tells you when to get off them....a common problem I've had. So far all the docs have been happy with my progress, and despite my reservations, I agreed to the implantable heart monitor procedure next Thursday. It can't hurt, and I'll have matching bumps on my chest, one for the port and now one for this.

David, good news about Sophie's eyes. Vision is such a huge part of life, you don't want to be without it.

RS, in our disposable society where I seemed to be the only person who had a grinding wheel and sharpened my own lawn mower blades, vs just buying new ones, nice to see your bringing dented stuff back to life. Unless you hit a rock with a weakened blade, can't see any downside and in the meanwhile, you are ahead of the game. I simply enjoyed that "lettuce slicing" noise of using freshly sharpened blades, plus the lawn always looked nicer.

Buckeye, you need to have a doc look at your shoulder and maybe cool it on the projects for a little bit.
Have we heard from Riptides lately?
Jay, best wishes sent to you daily from all of us.
Hope you all have a good weekend.

/ Good morning!!!! #116,755
A thunderstorm rolled in about 11 last night, when the wind, rain and lightening got done we had another 2.61” of rain. That makes right at 7” since Tuesday.
I got a little seat time moving some fallen trees from Tuesday’s storm, not sure what I’ll find this morning, wind was awful last night.

Picked up grocery order from Walmart. Most stuff was ok, got 3 lbs of ground turkey for the price of 1.3 since that’s all they had.
I seriously need to grass after only 5 days it looks like two weeks.

Have a good day and blessings to all.

/ Good morning!!!! #116,756
Good morning, a much cooler start to the day at 17C/63F, with a fine mist to wet my face as soon as I walked out of the door. Baler is coming late this afternoon, hopefully the sun will be out by midday to dry the hay out, it was looking promising yesterday.

David, hope Sophie was reassured by the visit to the ophthalmologist. If she doesn't use glasses to read at the moment it is nothing to fear, she may well find it more enjoyable when eyes can relax instead of struggling with fine print.
It is men that have the hardest time with glasses - working out where we last left them :)

Drew, after a rough few weeks, sitting on that porch and drinking wine with a good friend should be a real delight to look forward to

Kyle, you must be one of the richest people in Texas, with a life that is filled with the things that money can't buy.

Wng, some will be impressed that you were willing to carry a truck battery that far - I was even more impressed that you had the correct size spanner (Edit oops, wrench) with you to make the change !

2020-08-08, 0620

62 right now...high in the low 80's and the prediction is for showers this afternoon...

Chores: Probably a dump run, but we really don't have that much today. However, need to get fuel for the Zero-Turn and tractor and the dump isn't much further then the gas station...we'll see. Probably at least start mowing today and, if rain, finish tomorrow.
Also need to run up to Randolph (6 miles north of Bethel) for some odds and ends...case of beer too, since I'll be there

Couple days ago, I downloaded a YouTube video of snow sounds...big files, but with VLC media player (free download, no ads), the audio can be pulled from the video making for a much smaller file.
This is a very relaxing sound...I've played it at bed time...and really lulls me to sleep (I normally toss and turn quite a bit).
Here's one of many such videos:

Update: Already raining...nice slow rain...so no mowing, most likely...
