45F cloudy mid 60'd for high....we need some rain.

Outside chores done E muffin time.
Last evening heard noise outside turn on porch light mother raccoon had her 4 little ones at critter table,2 little one were settling disagreement didn't take long.

Decided not to take the wildlife rehab jobs,Mrs. made couple good points.

Plans for today...hope to finish yard raking before Thursday Friday snow storm arrives.

I must have misspoke yesterday...I was successful getting a big gobbler with my son. I haven't been too successful with the Instant pot, but will try one of the breasts in it.

I hope to split the rest of the rounds from the 2 big oaks this morning and get them stacked before the rain.

place sure looks better after the lawn was mowed though I'm seeing one tulip broken over, wonder how that happened.
Tulips are just about to bloom.
I'm going to sprinkle some aged balsamic vinegar on them so deer can have a really nice meal....
actually I've been spraying all the plants with deer and rabbit preventer, will see if it works.

Good morning, the first main part of the "lockdown" is over this week in England. Non-essential shops are open again and pubs can again serve customers a pint of beer, although only outside. Hopefully it shouldn't be long now before we can have indoor visits with families and friends again.

Hawthorn was in full blossom at the back of the top pond this morning and for once there was no wind to disturb it's reflection.

LS, have you considered using that shading paint that can be applied to glass ? It makes a big difference to temperature inside the greenhouse. Easily wiped off again to let more light in during winter.

I read an article this morning that Intel is pledging to build manufacturing for computer chips here in the US or I suppose NA.
Now they all come from China, South Korea and I think Hong Kong. What happened in Suez Canal is big wake up call, plus what a way to
dominate a country by being able to proverbially turn off the lights. C'mon silicon valley, live up to your name and build these plants.
Or at least let Samsung build one in Texas...

Remember when Texas Instruments was cutting edge? I think we all have owned a TI calculator or watch at some time.
Been a long time since I've looked at red numbers.

Good Morning
It’s 46 and forecast to get to 63 with mostly clear skies with spotty showers later in the day.

Made excellent progress in the shop yesterday, second shot also went very well. Had 2:15 appointment, got jabbed at 2:13, much better than the hour wait for the first one.

After getting back, I got a call from a local body shop to borrow an electrical fish to pull a wire under their driveway through a 3”PVC pipe. Should have been easy, but they used plumbing fittings, not sweeps and the fish wouldn’t work. So I tied a string to a plastic shopping bag and sucked it through with a shop vac. The owner just stood there dumbfounded and said something about “that’s why he called an old timer”.
Next up was to fix the manure bin I built last fall, the posts on the open end were leaning outward, so I pulled them together with a come along, and dug the wet, muddy ground out next to the post and filled it with 2a crushed stone and tamped it in 3” lifts. Just tamping the stone slackened the come along cable, so I’m calling it a success.

Still no reaction to the second shot, hopefully it stays this way. I didn’t fly a trip today as the FAA wants 48 hours after a shot with no reaction before flying.

But that gives me more time in the shop to find my missing tray of hardware!

Good Morning!!!! 54F @ 5:30AM. Plentiful sunshine. High near 75F. Winds WSW at 5 to 10 mph.
Got tired of waiting for the forecast high winds and low humidity yesterday, and went ahead and cleared more ground. But instead of burning the slash, I started a new pile, picking out the larger pieces of manzanita as I went. Went through three sets of batteries in the chainsaw, and finished loading the second to last pallet. All the wood in that pallet was cut with solar generated electricity. More of the same on today's agenda. The wind did kick up finally, just as I was fixing dinner. Big dark clouds formed to the north, bringing some light showers up there, but none here.

Speaking of solar energy and batteries, the solar charger on the new gate opener hasn't been keeping the battery charged. The battery was down to 12.2 Volts, so I put it on a trickle charger to see if it'll take a charge. I'd be surprised if it didn't because it's only three years old and is a deep discharge marine battery. But we'll see. Could be that all the dust in the air from the lumberjacking last week got the solar panel dirty and it needs cleaning. But I can't see it from the ground, so will have to take down the pole to clean it.

C'mon silicon valley, live up to your name and build these plants.

Silicon Valley is all but deserted now, Drew. California's abusive taxes have driven them out of state, mostly overseas, but also to Texas and the Carolinas. Some businesses were coming back due to tax cuts put in place by the previous administration, but that has dwindled as the cuts rolled back. Add to all this the boom in telecommuting, and tech workers no longer need to even be in the USA, let alone Silicon Valley.

I'd try a smart charger if you can.
on the larger electrified garden rig I had in NC the compact tractor sized battery was disconnected at least once a year and taken back to the barn and put on the smart charger.
That battery was older too, which confirms my opinion that smart chargers make batteries last longer. But they even have trickle smart chargers, the one amp ones like for
motorcycles, so I bet that is what you are using.

I went to change the oil on my generator and snowblower and realized I was about to make a giant mess based on where the drain plus were.
So I ordered a suction type oil vacuum and that won't be in until tomorrow. I've had them in the past and they work fine. Maybe every third oil change I make a mess so
everything gets flushed out the bottom. Until they put a camera on the end of the suction tube, which would be pretty cool actually, you are kind of sucking blind here. But if you tilt
the engine back and forth a little I find they work pretty well.

the model I ordered was the least expensive one I could find with a fitting to add my own air from the compressor nearby. That means no pumping and perhaps a higher rate
of suction. Can't wait to try it. Hope I'm not covered in oil from head to toe from it...

It would be nice if the engine were designed that the lowest point in the pan was directly under the oil fill cap or dipstick tube.
So your little plastic sucker tube hits just the right spot where hopefully the residual gunk is also. I admit to wasting a little oil
on some older machinery by pouring some fresh oil into the engine after the oil drain with the plug still out. Trying to catch whatever
wound up on the bottom, or at least anything loose. But if it all drained to one spot and the sucker tube can be placed right there, well
that seems like a very good idea.

If you weren't so far off, I'd give you the one I have and don't use anymore since I use EGO battery powered stuff now.

We've had rain in the forecast for every day of this week. So yesterday morning, just as it started to mist, I spread Scotts Weed & Feed on the whole yard. And we got a whopping .03" of rain. So this morning, so dry we don't even have any dew, I've got the sprinklers running front and back.

48F and partly cloudy @ 09:15, headed up to a high of 64F for the day. Cool down due tonight, but it looks like chances of snow have been removed from the Ten Day. Calling for highs in the 50's and 60's.

Pileated woodpecker started drumming about an hour ago, but seems to have stopped now. Due to refill hopper and sunflower seed tube feeders this morning, need to get the nyjer feeders pole set again after something knocked it over and refill those as well.

Feed fish and clean front glass on a couple more tanks as well.

Friend stopped by yesterday and picked up composted soil and sheetcake, some time spent enjoying the sun, jaw-jacking, and solving country/world's problems.

Mostly finished up weeding planting bed with the lily splits yesterday. Three large clumps of variegated hosta in there that will need to be transplanted elsewhere at some point. The remaining redbud is now in bloom, along with magnolia.

Grass has grown rapidly and could be mowed again, looks like I barely put a dent in the dandelion crop out front. Might hit it with the MMM later this afternoon, if I get paperwork sort out/organizing and prep for appointment with CPA done.

Funny you should mention chargers, Drew. I think it was Ron that started recommending the Battery Saver 2365-LCD 6 & 12 Volt Vehicle Battery Charger, Maintainer & Tester a couple years ago, and I've had really good luck with them. I'm up to six, and try to keep one on every vehicle. Thanks to your reminder, I just ordered another two. JBTools.com seems to have the best price right now at about $95 each, a good thing since Amazon wants almost $150 for one now! This version of the Battery Saver puts out a maximum of 50W or 3.5A, and it was charging the gate opener battery at that value when I first hooked it up yesterday morning. It's a 100 Ahr battery, and the charger said it was half full, so it should be fully charged this morning. If it is, I'll load test it, then leave it on the charger until it comes back to full. Then back out to the gate, were I'll also have to figure out how to get up to the solar panel to clean it. The big ones out back probably need it, too.

A good day would be getting my pool pump house back together and functional without aggravating my thumb too much. Did get the corroded timers removed, the electrical panel cleaned up and painted. All the new parts are ready to be put in place.

Finally finish raking the lawn etc. made dump run also got diesel critter food stop before the nasty storm arrive late Thursday morning.
Mrs. call ask me to drop off summer tires at our service station for she made appointment for car and pickup this Thursday and Friday to have tires switch...guess she forgot about 3-5 inches snow coming Thursday evening into Friday....oh well.

Just quiet evening plan.

Well my plans for today took a turn down a dirt road. The drains in the house stopped flowing. Even worse, the ejector pump for the basement bathroom would cause “stuff” to bubble out of toilets when it ran, pressurizing the main trunk. Fortunately I killed the power to the ejector pump before any effluent escapes it’s containment.
Got on the phone to see if I could get a vacuum truck out today to pump out the septic tank. I was very lucky to get someone to come right out. He showed up just as I finished exposing the lid to the tank. He pumped and flushed the tank and cleared my clog while he was at it. A really nice guy and as great of an experience as pumping out your septic tank can be.

And most importantly, the first law of plumbing has been restored. Stuff flows downhill again!
