I like this as well Actually most pickles. Unfortunately my favorites are no longer available. My grandmother made something we called mustard pickles, cucumbers from her garden. Anytime I was lucky enough to be told to geo get a jar from the cellar you could count on them being have gone that meal.lot’s of good memories from those visits.

Me too! Grandma’s Polish pickles were the absolute best!

Good Saturday morning all. mid 40's going up to 60 today in sunshine, should be nice.

wow Bill, that is some challenging news about your DIL. Having been through this with my wife, no it's not how it normally works.
In fact with mine they overmedicated her so much from day one that mine couldn't talk with me. Though I know she heard me.
Prayers for comfort for your family. Not an easy time for you.

Number of friends stopping over for coffee and muffins this morning, then I hope to do the oil changes on the snowblower and gen this afternoon.

34 right now...high in the upper 40's today. That should pretty much take care of the little snow we have left from yesterday's storm
Other then picking up the PTO driveshaft and the mirrors I ordered for the 4052, no real plans today. Probably rig the driveshaft to the chipper and tractor...see how everything fits now. I had the ring type yoke replaced by the old push pin type (actually, didn't think that type of yoke was available any more...but the dealer had one in stock. I hope I made the right decision in having this modification done. The mirrors are a bolt on...other then needing a ladder and a wrench or two, shouldn't be a problem (famous last words, eh?)

L$N, I am really sorry to read the hospice didn't work out...and what they're doing sounds outrageous and unprofessional. Letting her stay with her fur babies is both loving and very human. There's no doubt this will be a stressful time for you and your family but I think you're doing the right thing...

I hope Coco gets better!!

Hospice is usually for our last week. Some folks who go in get better and come out.
But most don't and the whole idea is to get out of pain, since by that time if you have a wasting type
disease that causes a lot of pain, like pancreatic cancer, all you want to do is get out of pain and have your
last few days at least be pleasant, which often the prior several months haven't been.

If someone is not in too much pain, or easily controlled, then I'd rather stay at home.
I have surely had my fill of hospitals.
Canine therapy sounds really wonderful. And I think the dogs know in their own way.

Let's all try to stay healthy, watch what we eat, what we weigh and remember to be happy.
Happy people last longer.

Yet another update, took her to the hospice this morning. She found out the hard way how they clear the patients. They withhold the meds. Noon pills didn't get to her nor did the supper pills. I just got home from picking her up. She will die at home with her furbabies around her.
Sad very sad...but least she comfortable setting person can be trusted.

38 and frosty roof, going to 65...same as yesterday.

Prayers for your DIL, L4N.

Randy, hope you're feeling better again today.

Check, I like your color better.

Thanks for wishing Coco well. I wrote up/updated her history since Feb 1 and sent to the internist, then called for appointment, only to find they were closed. I always copy the dermatologist vet that treated her originally and referred me to the internist. She really cares and is on the ball...called me and said she had already made an appointment for Coco at a different vet here in this county, I just needed to call them to confirm...that she had been concerned recently about the first internist having short hours and being hard to reach (she travels the US in her job). She also talked through things and called in a prescription. Fingers crossed.

Picked up a double load of mulch in the trailer to make my wife happy while out getting gas and diesel...she brought home a delicious vegetable calzone for me.

Does anybody know if that Mars rover helicopter ever took its test flight? Last I heard it was postponed. Read a long article about it and challenges of flying in 1/100 the atmosphere density of earth.

Good morning, another sunny day here. No wind either, a good time to set the zero on a new addition to the gun cabinet.

L4N, so sorry to hear about the poor care for your DIL. Home sounds a good place to be.

Any opinions on what will go well with this red trim?
Check, I tend to associate brightly painted buildings with the coast. It was said that having a variety of colours made it easier for fishermen to distinguish towns along the coastline when weather conditions were poor. With GPS I suppose they could now be painted "Vantablack" without a problem. Darkest Ever Black

Easy choice - go with whatever colour makes your wife happiest.

Good morning, a little cool out this A.M. 37°F and going to 55. Wind N 8 mph. 30% chance of showers.

I am out early this morning to get some 3/8" carriage bolts 6.5" long and a new rake.

I think the anemia will kill her before the cancer. She will just slip away in her sleep. That is what she is hoping too.
I think there will be a nasty, but honest post or two on their (the hospices') FB page.
People need to be aware of this practice. It is not the right thing to do, basically forcing someone to die. They might as well put a gun to her head and squeeze off a round. That would be a more humane way for her to die.

Thanks for the prayers and good wishes. They are appreciated.

You guys in the snow take it easy. Wet snow or heart attack snow is just that, a heart attack waiting to happen.
I adopt a different attitude to late season snows...The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.

Stay safe all

I'm sure the individuals involved in providing hospice care make the major difference, but when my Mother saw the hospice care provided for my Dad, she decided right then that she wanted hospice when her time came. The individuals involved in her care were not nearly as good as those who provided Dad's care, but still better than not having hospice.

Paul, my late wife was a charge nurse at Mercer Hospital in Trenton in ICU for almost 20 years.
"nothing like a good shooting or stabbing" was her take on things, but after many years all those
adrenaline rushes takes a toll and she moved on to private practice nursing.

But as Toppop and a few others of us know, being married to a nurse or doc has many benefits.
Based on his very bad motorcycle accident last year, Paul is a lucky man indeed to have two nurses looking
out after him. Two nurses. The man is surely spoiled. :)

Hospice is usually for our last week. Some folks who go in get better and come out.

Actually hospice is for when the decision is made that treatment is no longer viable and to increase the quality of what life remains.
Doctors have a hard time factoring in the quality of life and often times don’t recognize when hospice is the best option, as they consider it a failure on their part rather than a appropriate course of care. My wife has had patients that have been on hospice care from one day to multiple years. And as Drew said, a few “success stories”.

treatment is no longer viable and to increase the quality of what life remains
I like your description better, thanks, allows more possibilities.

The challenge comes when one is discharged from the hospital to the hospice
and retaining control over that situation.

Hey I figure I'm one of the those success stories already.
Life is good and let's not waste a day, if only in contemplation.
Need a category for some of us retired folks who need a little contemplation time...aka nap.
