that looks like a lot of steps PJ, not sure I could do it.
Simply amazing what was once there

azaleas lighting up the entrance way to house, happy bushes

Rich, are you required to wear an inflatable air bag vest when you compete?
I saw them for first time on Youtube, never knew they existed.
Apparently some classes require them for racing.

63°F and light rain this morning, only going up to 65° today. Looks like the rain is done with us, at least until tomorrow. We had some mild boomers roll through early this morning, but nothing approaching severe here. iThingie app says we'll be in the upper-80s to low-90s next week. Sounds to me like good kayaking weather.

Drew, I grew up in Granite City, a mere five miles as the crow flies from the Cahokia Mounds Historical Site. It is a truly fascinating place. The trek up to the top of Monk's Mound will take the wind out of a healthy man. About 20 years or so ago they finally built a museum across the road from the main mound, and it's spectacular as well. They have displays set up showing what they believe life was like for the native Mississippian tribe who lived there, and it's like walking through their village. A very cool experience.

That’s cool, we have several mounds within about 6-8 miles of where I live. The largest is about 20’ high, about 70 yards long and about a hundred or so feet wide at the top. Before they were protected, someone bought the property where the big one is and built a big brick house on top. Sometime when I go by it I’ll take a picture.

Corrected spelling.

There are mounds all over the St. Louis area, Randy. Every so often, someone will accidentally find another one when they start digging or excavating and find a bunch of artifacts in what they thought was just a small hill. It's believed that at the peak of their culture in the early 12th century, there were more people living there than in the city of London at that time. Then suddenly, around the middle of the 14th century, they all just disappeared. No one knows what really happened to them, only a bunch of theories.

I've climbed that mound several times, Drew. The last time was about 15 years ago, with my then-fiance. I had to force myself to finish the last flight of steps at the top. Once up there, you can see all the way to west St. Louis County, about 20 miles or so. The top of the mound is about 100 feet high.

The 9th dahlia has sprouted (initially missed it), will leave it inside for a few more days along with the one that still hasn't.

Moved the other 8 outside.

In the one tray I planted a couple of days ago, 22 marigolds have sprouted and have broken, or are starting to break, the soil:

One of the elephant ears appears to have sprouted as well.

Voting done.

So a little bit of progress.

It’s said that a lot of mounds, especially round ones, were garbage dumps.

My competing days are likely over. I am enjoying pit duties.

The air suits are so far, only required for the AFT series which is the top level. So far, the suits do seem to significantly reduce injuries to the core body and neck area. The legs and arms still take a beating.

Some riders at lower level series are starting to wear the suits as well.

Good Morning!!!! 55F @ 4:45AM. Plentiful sunshine. High 84F. Winds NW at 10 to 20 mph.

I'm not fond of wind either, Ted. Lots of dust in the air here from the driveway work, dust devils love to play in it. Lots of idiots lighting burn piles in it, keeping the fire department busy, too.

Lots of catching up yesterday, so not much got done. I did find that the ignition switch on the side-by-side is on the fritz, and of course Kubota didn't have one in stock. Gave it a shot of DeOxIt, and will see if that helps this morning.

Still no sign of the package FedEx is holding. Makes it difficult to finish the StarLink installation without the necessary hardware. But I'll maybe get the cable run in from the dish. Hoping that the conduit that's already in the ground is big enough to take the molded on end. Too bad it doesn't use something like CAT5 that is easy to work with.

Went down the YouTube rabbit hole last night. Haven't spent much time there before because the videos just wouldn't play without a lot of buffering, but now it's like watching TV. Cord cutting is a real option I'm going to have to check into, especially with more than a hundred bux going out every month to Dish.

The boys continue to make good progress on the driveway, and will finish this week as long as their equipment holds up. I rode with Les in his ancient dump truck to see where he's moving the dirt to, and it's a wonder it runs at all...

The great state of California took pity on me yesterday and issued me a refund check on my income tax. For a whole dollar. I guess with billions of dollars in budget surpluses, they figured I needed it more than they did. Probably cost 'em more to write and mail that check than it's worth. That surplus won't go very far if they keep pi$$ing it away like that.

I’m told the cable end at starlink dish is removable and smaller.

Lots of mounds in Ohio also. Big one in Moundsville WV.

Busy at work today, which is what I like. But home late.

Need to work on lazyboy chair again, leg rest gets stuck half way up and won’t go up or down. Little pin in the mechanism that slides in and out of a groove. The edges gets rough from many cycles of use. The fix is to file the edge down smooth again, so it doesn’t hang up.

Nothing planned tonight. Feet half way up.

My wife just got a positive alligator test result, even though she just had a bad cold and tested negative on the home test. I don’t think she has it.

Guess I’ll go get tested again to see what it says.

Which home test did she test negative?

We are having a rash of new cases around here. The symptoms reported are mild and everyone that got it had the vaccine.

I hope your wife's symptoms stay mild.

So do you get to quarantine for the rest of the week?

/ Good morning!!!! #149,434
Good morning. Another mild overnight temp of 12C and it's currently 17C with a breeze. Overcast for the most part. Perhaps some rain tomorrow but the "Liars" (BoM) predict a major downpour on Friday.

It's 'in to town' day for mail/scripts/groceries, then I may take the Z-turn out for a mow around the house & driveway.

Tomorrow I'm scheduled for my annual flu shot.

Take care all!

Sorry BEF hope she recovers quickly

Tested negative on one of the ones the post office sent out. She only went to get tested at a test site because someone told her about people testing negative at home and later tested positive, so she decided to go for the site test. She’s much better than she was last week.
She thinks she got her cold from me last week. I had a mild cold or spring allergies a week ago, but I did have a bad cold a week or so before that, where I tested negative twice on the home kits.
Wife was told quarantine 5 days from the day she started feeling sick. Well, that was 6 days before her test, so what does that say about the 5 day quarantine.
My son and I will go get tested tomorrow.

Good evening all. 50ºF` for the start, overcast, .5 inch in rain gauge, light breeze. Light to moderate wind, overcast most of day with periods of drizzle, and high temp was 61ºF, DP 51ºF. Good evening all.
Randy(wag) hope you can find something at the store.
I hope that I'm not reading too much into this but, especially during the pandemic and up to now, I haven't experienced any shortage at my local grocery store (Bay of Fires IGA).

Mind you, if I have 'missed out' on something it's because it was on sale and I got there too late.

Tasmania is a very rural State with an abundance of produce. The beef and lamb, here in St Helens, comes practically right off of the paddock in Pyengana (yep, where the other horse was off helping muster cattle this past weekend). Pork comes from Scottsdale.

Not one problem with regard to 'packaged' goods either.

58 going to 83...had a t-storm wake me up at 3am, but we got only the edge, so little rain.

BEF, hope your wife's test was a false positive, and all of you are okay.

Cut another dead tree down yesterday...one that has been annoying me for a couple of years. Finished my backstop by building another side, and then cut and grappled some brush. Took the grapple off and replaced with the bucket for digging more sand out of the creek. Roasted coffee, and then collapsed into the chair for a while.

May the Fourth be with you.
