LS what is your water supply?
We are on a community water system. I wouldn't really call it a 'community' system being they cover probably 20 square miles. They are a co-op type business, not for profit. They serve around 20 communities and 5 "towns"

Got everything needed for the dog food to be made. I was surprised that I was able to get ground beef for $1.99 lb. Bought 5 tubes to stock up. Got all the staples needed for the people at Wally World, then went to the regular grocery (Smith's / Kroger) for the meat. Saved 40% at the grocery vs. Walmart. Surprised at that.

When I was at Walmart, couldn't resist going out to the nursery.... found 3 plants that must be from last year.... only priced at $7.84, half of all the rest of their stock. They are going into the 3 empty containers in the bed just completed. 2 variegated english boxwoods, and a red tipped photinia.

D787617B-6DDA-42A9-810B-B4A5CD1FEAE4.jpegThey are the 3 on the floor in the middle.
The rest of the tall tree saplings were grown from seed last fall. They are Kentucky Coffee Trees. Also a couple of willow cuttings started this year. too the left side, there are 4 avocado plants that the wifey is experimenting growing.

The asiatic lilies are about ready to bloom....

8FAD71C2-5898-40E3-887E-AA72A2A80DB3.jpegWe have 4 of these containers.... they have definitely outgrown them. This fall, they are going to get separated and planted in the CMU blocks bordering the beds.

And the 4 flats of flowers sprouting.... wifey definitely has a green thumb!

C6E7DC67-EF3D-4D3D-A174-750126EAC20A.jpegAll of them perennials, 288 plants in those trays!

Had the leftover meatballs from yesterday's dinner, wifey made up some spaghetti instead of just doing subs again. Time to put the feet up and share some ice cream with Max.

70F and "Fair" @ 21:00, heading down to 60F for the low. Was up late last night and up early this morning so looking forward to some good sleeping weather ... :giggle:

Started off with doing a little weeding up in front of the shop in the border bed with the salvia and yarrow in it. When I say "little" I mean very little: ground was dry and hard. Ended up cutting down the edge with the string trimmer and will spray as much of it as I can.

After that, I headed down to the bed with the coral bells in it in the second circle where I suspected the weed pulling would be a lot easier:

IMG_1752 copy.jpg

Amazon stopped by in the middle of that and dropped off another 100 six inch nursery pots, so I took a break and repotted one of the two remaining starter trays with squash in it. Twelve holes, got eleven plants out of it. One of the trays had zucchini in it and the other had a combo of zucchini and yellow crookneck, not sure which one I did as I didn't mark the trays.

Watered peppers that are still in peat pots + some of the squash/pumplins that looked they needed it, will get the rest tomorrow.

The bed was much easier to weed, and I made some decent progress there:

IMG_1755 copy.jpg

That bed will get some more plants stuffed into it tomorrow (when I'll have the assistance of my helper ...) and then the part which has been weeded will get mulched.

Will likely need to order more mulch tomorrow.

Woman brought home chow from Wasabi Express which She was hankering for and it was very good.

Going to go put things away and close up and catch a little of Game 2 of the NBA Finals ... if I can keep my eyes open ... ;)

Hope everyone had a great Sunday ... (y)

Good worship today.

Took army guy out to lunch afterwards, he’s heading to El Paso TX for his next duty.

Found video of the flagpole operation yesterday, but the tree blocks the view of most of the action. But I made a video from security cam sections.

The base of pole is above tractor cab, top of pole on ground to the right. Hanging from a strap on side of BH.

Good early arvo. Another mild and rainy night, low was only 6.3C and it's presently 17.2C; partly cloudy with a gentle breeze. There was 12.7mm of rain in the gauge (@0900) so the total for the 2-day rain 'event' was 30.3mm. All things must come to an end so I'm expecting a wee frost tomorrow morning.

I stayed up a bit late last night watching the Queen's Platinum Jubilee concert. Today's parade/pageant was great and I actually recognised a good friend in the parade!

Take care all!

Edit: I just had a look at my thermometer and the temp has dropped down to 13.2C! 22 minute difference.

Good evening all. 69ºF for the start, partly cloudy sky and light breeze. Moderate wind with brisk gusts, mostly clear sky, and high temp was 86ºF, HI 91ºF. Chapel to start day, had special music, by quartet. Made wife pancakes for breakfast, then puttered rest of day. Did get two vehicle registrations renewed, unable to install dash cover in pickup, has to lay flat for 12 hours. Also got old timer that ran porch lights working again, ants gummed up contacts. And managed a nap as well.

bought some new eco paper plates that aren't paper and aren't plastic. Made of sugar cane waste fiber. Compostable.
seems like a step in the right direction.

perhaps I'm a bit of a skeptic (with a Marketing background and interest).

1) are these ECO plates cheaper / less expensive than regular paper plates or plastic plates ?

2) are these ECO plates more compostable than the typical paper plates ? do they decompose quicker than a regular paper plate?

On the surface I see no advantage, other than a marketing ploy.

good morning all
went to bed early, so tired from yesterday.
Music concert at church went well, gorgeous weather, opening act one of our members playing guitar, singing folk songs, while his
son played along on a drum set. I thought of Ken immediately and his son with drums. This was a younger boy and he looked a little overwhelmed
by it all. After their set the main band came, seven members, two guys with long white beards, two women, five guitars, banjo, gosh it was fun.
I left after an hour but will always remember their lead song. Ducktape. A whole song about ducktape and it was hilarious.

I have no incoming emails telling me the place blew up after I left, as I'm feeling a little guilty by cutting out early. I'm sure it was fine.
I took a lot of pictures and sent them to various church members.

looks like a really nice day today and nothing planned.
So...maiden voyage of trailer and mower over to church to mow the graveyard on a lovely summer day.
I'm wondering how many inches clearance I have left in the trailer, since I didn't think about the chute extender on the deck.
Guess I could always bungee it upwards. Hopefully it will fit with a few inches on each side to spare. I did get the smaller trailer
intentionally for ease of handling. But after I drive the mower up and it fits in there, I'll be a happy camper.

Scaredy, I think they were 11 cents a plate and yes they are more compostable, within two years. Paper takes a few years longer apparently and is often coated with stuff
you might not want around your veggies. I'll let you know how they work out. Might nibble on one corner too... ;)

David, that is one fine looking t-bone.

RS, do you realize how much squash all those plants are going to produce? You'll need a farm stand. Even better, find your local food bank/pantry and donate the
big stuff to them. I am growing yellow egg shaped squash, and most will go to neighbors and food pantry. I ate so much squash as a kid, thank you Dad, I swore I'd never eat
more again... I look at green zucchini now and just groan in memory.

find someone who needs a kindness today.

I am concerned about censorship. I think that for the most part we handle controversial stuff pretty well. It is useful to have all the information you can get in this complicated and confusing world. I regret that Ron left and it seemed like he might have been upset by censorship. Friends can talk about all manor of things.

Chris, I agree, but we have to self police here and it went off the rails a little. So we keep it very simple with alligators and everyone knows we aren't discussing the relative merits of anything here, folks are just trying to inform. NOT REBUT. When you start rebutting, arguing, it all goes downhill quickly. So just state your concern or thoughts and make it part of a larger discussion.
No one in this group wants to argue with anyone else. And no one wants to hear the same thing over and over again.

I learn a lot here. I think most of us try to share things in our lives that will help or inform others. Sure hope that continues.
And for sure, let's focus mostly on the good stuff. Plenty of that out there...

if only there was a hawk sitting on that tree limb, Wngsprd's pic would be worthy of a magazine cover. What a view.
Being high up is its own adventure.

Good Morning.
It’s 55 going to 80. Another outstanding day.

Yesterday was a great day to be outside. Started off with a second coat of primer on the mailbox.
IMG_9043.jpg

Next step was to finish up the mowing with the Lazer, then put the loader and auger on the tractor to set the base for the mailbox.

IMG_9041.jpg

IMG_9046.jpg

Got it set and level, used 3 80 lb bags of sackcrete, so it should be pretty solid.

Made it restaurant and installed new toilet flange to concrete floor with Tapcon screws, then went to airport with son and grandson,

IMG_9054.jpg

Son took grandson in the plane that he had his first solo in about 23 years ago. I bought it to teach him to fly, never thought I’d still have it for the next generation.

Ended the day walking around the pond with wife and grandson looking for frogs.

IMG_9059.jpg

Overall a pretty fulfilling day.

I am not a fan of censorship, but I don’t think that this thread is really censored, more like restrained out of respect for the diverse group with varied beliefs and opinions. An oasis or safe haven where we try to stick what we have in common rather than a platform for political discourse. I think that is the key to its longevity.
