Glad to see you posting Thomas! Sounds like everything went well.
..... well except for the restrictions. Are they temporary ?

RNG, glad to hear you're still upright! Nice to hear that you had a successful/fun trip.... well except for the wind part!

Did I ever mention how I hate wind?

Kind of productive day.... we did get the new shrubs planted in the containers.

Then started up the drip system and monitored that off and on for a few hours.

I actually opened up the shop and was getting on the tractor when the wifey asked "what are you doing?" I said "going to get the materials for the raised bed". I got a serious look.... she said it got to hot to be working outside!
After feeling like crap the last couple of days, I didn't argue....

Tomorrow's agenda is planned.... at least for the morning.

60F and mostly cloudy @ 22:00, heading down to a low of 55F overnight.

Made some progress on the Kubota.

Drove out pins for the front u-joint on the front driveshaft and removed it.

Cleaned up those parts in the parts washer.

Came down for some lunch and had a big one: clean up leftovers from Wasabi Express + plus a whole roast beef sandwich (with Hellman's Real Mayo) and some tater chips.

That put me down for a little nap.

Woman figured I was down for the count, but I got up and headed back up to the shop around 18:00 ... :giggle:

Replace oil seal on that shaft with new one, which is forward of the front u-joint, but rearward of the carrier bearing.

Odd thing about that: spring side of the seal does not face the direction that the fluid would be on (bearing side) ... although the bearing itself is a sealed bearing. Typically it's reversed, not sure why this one would be different but that's how it was when we removed it. And it was original.

Reinstall front u-joint on front shaft and pinned it back on.

Install new rear u-joint on new rear shaft and pinned it on.

Install plastic cover for front u-joint on rear shaft.

Verified that the splines for the rear shaft and rear side of the front u-joint are indexed - they can't put together out of time/phase.

Still have to snake the rear shaft and u-joint up into the center frame and slide it over the output shaft on the transmission ... but that may require a extra set of hands/eyes because I'll have to do it blind while lying on my back.

Might happen tomorrow if I can persuade You Know Who to venture up for an assist.

Another roast beef sandwich sounding real good right now.

Glad to hear good report from Thomas ... (y)

Hope everyone had a great day.

Good arvo. Overnight lows were yoyo-ing; 0.2C when I toddled off to bed, 3.2C when I stoked the fire at 0230 and around 4C when I woke up. The high was 12C and it's presently 10.2C, overcast (no rain) with a gentle SE wind.

Into town for groceries, but first I took a chance that I'd hydrated enough to give a blood sample... 2 'attempts' and some searching on Sister's behalf, and she was able to, slowly, draw enough for two vials.

Good to hear that Thomas' procedure went OK. Surgeries really are in&out these days.

Take care all.

59° and light rain right now...high in the low 70's and rain on and off...heavy rain tomorrow.

Thomas, glad everything went well and you're home! I never got all the restrictions you were told...don't think I'd like that. I was told to stay away from TIG welding due to the high frequency used for arc stabilization. I do need to set an appointment at Dartmouth to get my pacemaker checked out soon. Good luck to you!!

Urinary problem not too bad last night...up a couple times, some dribbling but at least it wasn't as painful. I'm limiting myself to one cup of coffee per day and drink a lot more water...

good morning all

Thomas good news (y)
Roy, I have BPH, take those pills, seems to go one way or the other. Can't pee, constricted, or not enough control when I need to.
Getting old is not for the meek...

68 degrees going up to 80 today, .10 rain last night, looks like same thing tonight.

no plans for today. I offered to go weedeat a friend's garden that I helped plant a month ago, but need to wait another day until wrists stop
hurting. Borrowing an Echo gas weedeater from friend, my Makita cordless not powerful enough.

might take a run up to local golf cart place, see what they have in used equipment.
Might be headed to Catskills end of month and would be nice to trailer an offroad golf cart so I can drive around in the mountains.
Or a very, very comfortable UTV. There are lots of fast, racy UTV's. I want the slow and comfortable one.

hope all of you out West get through the hot weather ok. And that Bird's a/c stays on.
Don, be careful out there working in this heat.

It's a good day to be alive.

one of the golf cart places is located right on the side of Doylestown Airport, the little local airport that Popgadget is very experienced with.
I wonder about having coffee in the Cross Keys Diner, which has been there forever, right at the end of the runway. I bet pilots would like it.
Sort of like a boater getting a dinner seat looking out over a marina.

Another golf cart place about three miles away. Very convenient.
Will head out after 9am, no sense getting in commuter traffic.
going to see if my friend going through chemo wants to get out of the house and go with me. Way out of my way near Harleysville but I haven't seen him since he got sick, and
looking forward to it.

Hmmm, do I take the checkbook with me?...

My dad was a 20 year old boy on the morning of June 6, 1944, he was man by noon that day. Dad got “volunteered” to transfer from artillery to the Quartermasters about six weeks before the invasion. Their mission was to land first and preposition ammo and equipment for the main forces when they landed. Only a handful of those first LCMs made it to shore. My dad was 5’7” tall, the landing craft drivers were scared kids and stopped short of the beach. Dad stepped off the ramp and immediately sank over his head. Luckily a a tall farm boy type was right behind him and kept picking him up and shoving him forward until he could walk on the bottom. That was their first run, he made several more over the first few days, carrying equipment in and wounded out.
Thanks dad, and all your buddies, for the freedom we have today.
I know you are proud of your dad. I'm proud of him, too.

67 and a beautiful sunrise a while ago..Getting hot and humid, but Mr. Weatherman says Friday will be another day to love. Maybe rain tonight...need it.

Thomas, such good news. I bet you'll start feeling so much better.

Roy, glad you're improving, and also kinda glad no one answered your question. 😁

RNG, glad you got home before that mouse got too stinky.

Buckeye, I was hiking the A/T again yesterday and had to wait where it crosses the Skyline Drive for about 50 motorcycles to go by...that's bad traffic for up there, but nothing like what you had. Weather so was so different there...misty, cloudy, very windy, and 20 degrees cooler than when I got home. Saw 14 thru hikers, talked to several...all left Springer in early March, except one solo lady of about 40 years old...I congratulated her on having left a month after the young hikers, but already catching up with them. I'll try to post a couple of pix.

Mowed everything when I got home, and now need to buy more diesel...but not sure my credit card limit is that high. o_O😁 One Exxon station (a small old-timey place) went up 35 cents a gallon between the time I went by it in the morning and when I came back. I guess the owner heard the other station in town was that high.

My wife likes to hike with me, but her hip was hurting, so when she doesn't go, I choose long, steep hikes. I knew she was working in the flower border most of the day, so brought home a fried chicken dinner from the best chicken place I've tried in a while...and the sides are great...this town has a history of the old trains stopping in town around lunch time, and the towns people bringing chicken and fixin's out to the passengers. So, the town has an annual Fried Chicken Festival each year. I think it's in October this year...I believe it is in my future.

Good Morning
It’s 68 and should go up about 10 degrees under sunny skies today.

Yesterday kept me busy as usual had my state of the nation breakfast with my retired attorney/professor friend, then worked on the mailbox project, getting first coat of color on it, cut the upper post to size and attached mounts for mailbox to it. Took a bit of fixturing to get it set up square and plumb as well as indexed to the lower flange so it faces the street when it’s bolted to its mate set in the concrete.

RNG will know exactly how the pipe was deburred.

Reading about Thomas’ limitations, I thought about how much I would miss welding, but then realized that an Oxy/Acetylene torch would still be an option, not ideal for thick material, but better than not being able to weld at all, and certainly better than the alternative. Not sure how much welding you do Thomas, but keep that in mind.

Today the mailbox will get another coat of paint as well as the post which got primed after welding was complete.
Then I’ll have to make a run for some stainless hardware to assemble it all. I also need to cut the numbers out some reflective black vinyl that I already have.

Wngsprd, I would have rather been hiking. Looks lovely. Thanks for the pics.
